Matt Allen is a Los Angeles-based filmmaker and a recipient of the American Cinema Editor's prestigious Eric Zumbrunnen Fellowship.
He loves working on character driven stories (especially dramas, thrillers & biographies) about real people and relationships that are anchored by new filmmaking voices. He is a student of classic Hollywood cinema and some of his favorite filmmakers include Alfred Hitchcock, Douglas Sirk, William Wyler, and Billy Wilder.
His skills include: 1. A Movie Polisher - Collaboration with all departments to have every edit play like a movie by completing editorial temp VFX, sound design, and score. 2. Pre-Production Ally - Saving time on set by creating & editing previs storyboards to better prepare the team. 3. Music Extraordinaire - picking and editing temp music to create a musical road map as the cut is assembled. 4. Sound Design Enthusiast - constructing a sonic landscape that tells the story through sound and makes every cut work better.
Matt began his movie journey in the studio offices of CBS Films and Voltage Pictures (which included working at the Cannes Film Festival twice). Through his work experience and ACE fellowship, Matt has been mentored by Academy Award nominated editors, and has had a long-term editor/assistant-editor collaboration with Matt Chesse ACE ('Finding Neverland' & 'Quantum of Solace'). Matt's assistant editor credits include Hollywood feature films 'A Man Called Otto' Starring Tom Hanks, Disney's 'Christopher Robin,' 'Bloodshot' starring Vin Diesel and 'Sweet Girl' starring Jason Momoa. Matt holds a MFA in Editing from the American Film Institute and a BFA in Media Production from Pepperdine University.
