Pros
Dancing is such a demanding skill that any kind of physical limitation seems like it would be a deal-breaker, but not so. Double-amputees Amy Purdy (season 18) and Noah Galloway (season 20) were both finalists. Little person Terra Jole (season 23) made the top five. And deaf model Nyle Dimarco (season 22) actually won the Mirror Ball Trophy.
“DWTS” fans often rally around contestants with inspiring stories, whether they have overcome physical challenges like the above contestants, recovered from injuries like season 23 runner-up James Hinchcliffe, or committed acts of heroism like season 13 winner Jr Martinez...

The 27th season of “Dancing with the Stars” is upon us. It premieres on Monday night, September 24, with the cast set to be officially announced this Wednesday, September 12. And the results are in from our recent casting poll where you told us which of our suggested celebrities you’d like to see on the dance floor. These are the men our readers would most like to see on the show.
Actor Josh Peck topped the list with 23% of the vote. He rose to fame as one half of the Nickelodeon series “Drake and Josh” (2004-2007). Child stars from both Disney and Nickelodeon shows have a pretty good track record in the competition as evidenced most recently by Jordan Fisher, who appeared in “Liv and Maddie” and “Teen Beach Movie” on the Disney Channel before winning season 25 of “DWTS” less than a year ago.

“Dancing with the Stars” took a chance this past spring with a special all-athletes edition that lasted just four weeks. Responses to that were mixed to say the least, in large part because of the abbreviated schedule. But what about the choice of contestants? Should the show try another themed season bringing together celebrities with a common background? Scroll down to vote in our poll at the bottom of this post.
There have now been 11 athlete winners of “DWTS,” so doing an all-athletes season was a good fit. But singers have also done quite well. Recording artists like Drew Lachey (season 2), Nicole Scherzinger (season 10) and Kellie Pickler (season 16) have won the Mirror Ball Trophy in the past, so perhaps an entire singers season is in order. Given the success of boy-band and girl-group members, the show could probably assemble a roster for a “Boy Bands vs. Girl Groups” season with ease.

When you’re hot you’re hot. That could be the case for professional dancer Lindsay Arnold on “Dancing with the Stars: Athletes.” She’s coming off her first ever Mirror Ball Trophy win in season 25 with Jordan Fisher, and this season she’s competing with seven-foot basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Can she win back-to-back seasons? Only three other pros have accomplished that feat.
The first to achieve consecutive Mirror Ball victories was Cheryl Burke, who won the first two seasons she ever competed in: season 2 with singer Drew Lachey and season 3 with football player Emmitt Smith. She hasn’t won since, but in her 18 subsequent seasons on the show she made the finals five more times, finishing second with Gilles Marini (season 8) and Rob Kardashian (season 13), and placing third with Christian de la Fuente (season 6), William Levy (season 14) and Jack Osbourne (season 17).

Clint Eastwood is back in the nation’s theaters once again, but you won’t see him on screen. His latest film, “The 15:17 to Paris” is a biographical suspense drama based on the 2015 terrorist attack on a Thalys train headed to Paris. Three American soldiers (Spencer Stone, Anthony Sadler and Alek Skarlatos) thwarted the terrorist and were declared heroes by the French Government. In a bold move, Eastwood cast the trio of heroes to play themselves in the film, but as a director, Eastwood is no stranger to bold moves.
For over half a century Eastwood has been one of the world’s greatest movie stars. Comfortable in both westerns and contemporary roles, his measured growl of a voice has been a key part in creating such iconic characters as The Man With No Name and Dirty Harry.

MaryAnn’s quick take… Clint Eastwood turns a terrorist attack into a bit of post-hoc reality “entertainment” with the stunt casting of the actual heroes as themselves in a stilted, tone-deaf piece of Christian-American propaganda. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing

There is no question that what Anthony Sadler, Alek Skarlatos, and Spencer Stone did on an Amsterdam-to-Paris train in August 2015 is worthy of praise, respect, and the highest commendation: they subdued a terrorist shooter and kept him in custody until the authorities arrived. But this is no way to honor them. Director Clint Eastwood (Sully, American Sniper) tells the story of their deed as a stilted, tone-deaf piece of blatant...

Chicago – What’s up with Clint Eastwood, and why in the Sam Hill did he attach himself as director to this film? Also, why was the decision made to use the actual rescuers as the actors in a true terrorist train incident? Nothing adds up in the strangely disconnected “15:17 to Paris.”

Before the train heroics, there are three major acts of this film. First, a childhood backstory for the three eventual heroes, which is about as awkward as it sounds, and contains odd castings of B-level TV “names.” Second, the real dudes take over the story of their lives, and it illogically focuses on Spencer Stone and his journey through the Air Force. Third, and the gosh darn weirdest part, is the travelogue that two of the dudes take before they meet up with the third hero in Amsterdam, and board the ill-fated train together. The length and...

Three Us tourists who foiled a terror attack on a French train play themselves. Poor call by director Clint Eastwood
It seems that evil doesn’t have a monopoly on banality. This woefully misjudged quasi-experimental film by Clint Eastwood, which celebrates the real-life heroism, in 2015, of three American tourists in Europe, is arse-numbingly dull. A key problem is that Eastwood casts the three friends, Spencer Stone, Alek Skarlatos and Anthony Sadler, as themselves. God bless them, they may be the bravest men ever to interrupt an interrailing holiday to tackle an armed terrorist. But they have not an iota of screen presence between them.
And since the actual act of heroism is over in a matter of minutes, there is a lot of thuddingly tedious padding to plough through in order to haul the story up to feature length. A considerable chunk of the first act is dedicated to their...

In every sense of the phrase, the newest Clint Eastwood film feels like a one-of-one. The gimmick of The 15:17 to Paris alone grounds it to the specificity of one particular moment: three men (Spencer Stone, Anthony Sadler, and Alek Skarlatos) play themselves acting out their part in the 2015 event in which they thwarted a massacre on a train. But in the sense that the film is tied so intensely to these three individuals, and that it has no story requirements other than to include the train attack at some point, The 15:17 to Paris imparts feelings onto the viewer in a way that is unique in the modern cinema. Faced with the task of condensing the experience of three lives into just over an hour of pre-attack footage, Eastwood abandons plot and almost entirely forgoes dramatic causality. The story moves like a shapeless riff, until it doesn’t. It...

Review: ‘The 15:17 to Paris’ Brings Authenticity, Dullness to Clint Eastwood’s Portrayals of Heroism
Social media discourse around The 15:17 to Paris has already positioned it as the first big cinematic culture war flashpoint of the year. But while liberal thinkpiecers and conservative fans alike will be able to find plenty of moments to thump their chests over, it doesn’t really feel as though director Clint Eastwood is aiming for any big statements about America or terrorism or what have you. That doesn’t mean any of them will necessarily be wrong for reading jingoism or affirmations of traditional values in the subtext or text. It’s just that, for example, characters are seen praying not as a dog whistle for Christian audiences but simply because that’s what their real-life selves would do. (And sure, it can be both, but it comes more matter of fact than pointed.)
Of course, in this film, the distinction between real-life self and movie self is ambiguous,...

“The 15:17 to Paris” starts with some of Clint Eastwood’s worst filmmaking in years and closes with some of his best. In Eastwood’s ambling look at heroism and civic duty, he revisits the famous 2015 instance in which a trio of young Americans stopped a gunman on a train from Brussels, casting the actual men involved to play themselves. The bulk of the drama leading up to the central event often has a stifling quality, marred by heavy-handed foreshadowing and bland monologues about the existential quandaries of young adulthood. However, at 89, Eastwood remains a deeply purposeful filmmaker, and “The 15:17 to Paris” clearly has a plan — it builds to a riveting showdown, with a unique kind of payoff enhanced by the authenticity of its design. It’s a fascinating gamble even when it doesn’t hold together.

Three young Americans who bravely foiled an attack on a train play themselves in a drama that focuses too much on their excruciatingly dull backstories
The authentic courage of three American heroes who foiled a terrorist attack has been anti-alchemised by Clint Eastwood into a strangely boring, dramatically inert film in which the main characters remain as opaque and unreadable as sphinxes to the very last.
But there is some interest in this film nonetheless because of the experimental chutzpah Eastwood has showed in using – not Chris Hemsworth, not Bradley Cooper, not Trevante Rhodes – but the three actual guys stolidly playing themselves. (The attacker, one Ayoub El-Khazzani, being now incarcerated, was not available for filming.) The resulting film looks bizarrely like an essay in take-it-or-leave-it social realist grit or radical, non-professional clunkiness, as if before filming Clint watched Ken Loach’s I, Daniel Blake and Tommy Wiseau’s The Room...

On August 21, 2015, three American buddies from Sacramento – Spencer Stone, Anthony Sadler and Alek Skarlatos – were vacationing in Europe. The Air Force medic, Oregon National Guardsman and college student at Sacramento State, respectively, left Amsterdam together and boarded the high-speed 15:17 Thalys train to Paris. Ayoub El Khazzani, a Moroccan-born terrorist, was also on board; he was armed with a Ak-47 assault rifle, a 9mm Luger pistol, a box cutter, a hammer, gasoline and a backpack with enough ammunition to inflict mass casualties on more than 500 passengers. It’s impossible to say how tragic the situation might have been on Thalys train 9364 on August 21, 2015, had three Americans — Anthony Sadler, Alek Skarlatos, and Spencer Stone — not stepped in to intercept a terrorist sporting enough will and ammunition to cause countless deaths. But a few minutes of nail-biting, recreated heroism isn’t enough to justify the other 90-or-so minutes in Clint Eastwood’s dry salute of a movie, “The 15:17 to Paris,” which struggles to mix patriotism, friendship, God, and destiny into something meaningful. Unlike the weighty punch of the director’s last couple of true bravery stories,...

No matter your opinion on the directing career of Clint Eastwood, it’s impossible not to admire the pace he keeps. At 87 years old, he’s shown no sign of slowing down, essentially putting out a film every other year. It’s not the yearly pace of fellow octogenarian Woody Allen, but it’s not far off. With a new movie opening this week in The 15:17 to Paris, it seems only appropriate to talk about Eastwood a bit, specifically Eastwood the director. He’s an Oscar winner, after all, so even his newest seems like little more than popcorn entertainment, he’s certainly capable of more than one sort of movie. His new film, obviously, is The 15:17 to Paris. Based on a true story, this is the long-is plot description that IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes has: “In the early evening of August 21, 2015, the world watched in stunned silence...

It’s no surprise that the three brave men who stopped a terrorist attack on a train to Paris in 2015 frequently look back on that fateful day.

Family movie night looks a little different for the Eastwood household. Instead of gathering around the television and scrolling through Netflix, Clint Eastwood and his kids head to a major film premiere for his latest flick.
The 87-year-old actor and director was joined by six of his kids at the Los Angeles premiere at his latest movie The 15:17 to Paris, which tells the true story of three American men who came face-to-face with a suspected terrorist on a train holding more than 500 people in 2015.
The father of seven posed with children Kyle, Alison, Scott, Francesca, Morgan and Kathryn on the red carpet.

If anyone knows how difficult actors can be, it’s Clint Eastwood. Maybe that’s why he chose to cast non-actors in his latest directorial effort, “The 15:17 to Paris,” which recently released a dramatic new trailer worthy of its clunky title. Returning to ground he found fertile in 2016’s “Sully,” Eastwood depicts the true story of passengers on a French train who overtook an armed terrorist in 2015, preventing a potential mass shooting. Eastwood cast many of the real passengers to play themselves in the movie, including three Americans: Anthony Sadler, Alek Skarlatos, and Spencer Stone.

The first trailer for Clint Eastwood’s “The 15:17 to Paris” landed on Wednesday, teasing the backstory behind the three American heroes who thwarted a terrorist attack on board a Paris-bound train in August 2015. In an unusual twist, Anthony Sadler, Oregon National Guardsman Alek Skarlatos, and U.S. Air Force Airman First Class Spencer Stone play themselves in the film — alongside actors depicting their boyhood selves as well as others in their lives past and present. "Don't try and take any shortcuts. Do what you know is right." Warner Bros has debuted the first official trailer for Clint Eastwood's The 15:17 to Paris, telling a fictionalized version of the story of three men who thwarted a potential terrorist attack on a train in France in 2015. The story goes that three men confronted and subdued the attacker before he could harm more people, and they have since become heroes for their actions. The 15:17 to Paris actually stars the three real men playing themselves: Anthony Sadler, Alek Skarlatos, and Spencer Stone, along with a cast of actors including Jenna Fischer, Judy Greer, Ray Corasani, Pj Byrne, Tony Hale, and Thomas Lennon. Eastwood is really into these stories of regular American heroes, my goodness. The twist in this is using the actual men, which is kind of cool to see. Enjoy. Here's the first official trailer for...

Completing his unofficial trilogy of American heroism after Sully and American Sniper, Clint Eastwood’s latest film recreates the 2015 event in which Anthony Sadler, Alek Skarlatos, Spencer Stone, and Jeffrey E. Stern were on the #9364 train from Brussels to Paris when an Isis terrorist boarded with an Ak-47, a pistol, a box cutter, and enough ammunition to kill all 500 people on board. The three American friends took it upon themselves to charge the gunman and stop him. The 15:17 to Paris, arriving in February actually stars the three men, playing themselves, and today the first trailer has arrived.

There’s some odd stuff going on with the casting for Clint Eastwood’s The 15:17 To Paris, the director’s latest tale of stalwart, good-hearted American heroes doing right. Eastwood already made headlines earlier this week, when he announced that the story’s central figures—Anthony Sadler, Alek Skarlatos, and Spencer Stone, who helped stop a 2015 attack on a French train—would be appearing as themselves in the upcoming film. Now, for whatever reason, he’s surrounding the trio with a bunch of very talented sitcom stars.
Variety reports that Tony Hale, of Veep and Arrested Development fame, and Reno 911! and The Odd Couple’s Thomas Lennon have both signed on for the film, playing the gym teacher and principal at the school where Sadler, Skarlatos, and Stone grew up. Clint Eastwood has taken up the director’s chair to yet again make a film on the real life heroes who stopped a terror attack on a French train back in 2015 in an as-yet-untitled project.
Adapted from the book the three men co-wrote themselves about that terrifying event, the film, which starts filming this week, focuses on the lives of the three friends from their childhood to the evening when they helped subdue the man who opened fire inside a train travelling from Amsterdam to Paris.

The Sacramento-area men were vacationing in Europe when they tackled Ayoub El-Khazzani, a man who authorities said had ties to radical Islam. El-Khazzani had boarded the Paris-bound train with a Kalashnikov rifle, pistol and box cutter.
What’s even more unusual that the three men the film is based on will all play themselves in Eastwood’s retelling.
