City National Bank has shuffled its top leadership team, recruiting banking veteran Howard Hammond as CEO while Kelly Coffey shifts to a new role as CEO of City National Entertainment.
The transition, effective Nov. 27, was prompted in part by City National’s desire to focus more deeply on its entertainment client base across TV, film, music, theater, touring and related sectors. Coffey, who is based in Beverly Hills, has served as City National CEO since 2019, having joined the company from JPMorgan’s private wealth management division.
City National Bank CEO Howard Hammond
“For me, banking has always been about clients — the people, businesses and nonprofit organizations we support,” Coffey said. “The entertainment industry is incredibly dynamic, and City National’s role in supporting this community is more important than ever as we remain at the forefront of industry developments and hone our services to meet the evolving needs of our clients.

CAA chief metaverse officer Joanna Popper knew Anthony Hopkins’ first non-fungible token drop would be popular but didn’t anticipate it selling out in seven minutes.
Popper joined The Hollywood Reporter senior business editor Ashley Cullins on Wednesday in a keynote Q&a at THR’s annual Power Business Managers event. She discussed topics ranging from the evolution of the internet to capitalizing on opportunities in the metaverse to the Bored Ape Yacht Club.
Popper explained that the metaverse is the “next wave of the internet.” First was the dotcom boom and then came the “social, mobile, cloud disruption where we started to use our phones for everything.” She said this wave will be “more interactive, more immersive, more 3D and more real time.” It’s not gaming, she elaborated, but a “gamified experience” that emphasizes connection.

The Small Business Administration is already tapped out of emergency loan funds approved last month to help companies stay solvent and avoid having to terminate workers.
The $349 billion allocated to the Paycheck Protection Program was part of the $2 trillion stimulus package signed into law by President Donald Trump on March 27. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced late Wednesday that the programs have run out of money after thousands of applications flooded into the SBA.
In addition to the Ppp, the stimulus bill added $10 billion to the existing Economic Injury Disaster Loan program that also aims to provide low-cost loans to keep businesses with less than 500 employees from going under.
Mnuchin called on Congress to come up with additional money to help keep grants and loans flowing. By law, the SBA cannot process any more applications unless more funds are appropriated.
“The SBA has processed more than 14 years’ worth of loans in less than 14 days,...
