Apple TV+ isn’t done exploring the depths of space.
The streamer has renewed its drama series For All Mankind for Season 5. Additionally, Apple TV+ has given the green light to a spinoff series titled Star City, also from creators Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi.
Apple is billing Star City is “a propulsive paranoid thriller” which will explore a key moment in the alt-history retelling of the space race — when the Soviet Union became the first nation to put a man on the moon. But this time, it will explore the story from behind the Iron Curtain, showing the lives of the cosmonauts, the engineers, and the intelligence officers embedded among them in the Soviet space program, and the risks they all took to propel humanity forward.
“Our fascination with the Soviet space program has grown with every season of For All Mankind,” Wolpert and Nedivi said in a statement.

For All Mankind has settled into life on Mars’ self-sustaining colony in the first trailer for Season 4, but a new space race to get the “most valuable known object in our solar system” has us worried about Ed Baldwin & Co. (But mostly Ed.)

“For All Mankind” Season 4 is nearly here. And a trailer that just played on the first day of New York Comic Con (where they’re also screening the first episode of the new season) gives us our first taste of what’s to come. Watch it above.
If you’ve never seen “For All Mankind” — created by Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi — it’s an alternate history tale of the space race. The first season was set during the race to the moon, with America training a group of female astronauts and Russia getting there first.
Each subsequent season has moved further away from actual history while still incorporating details from real life. And, crucially, each season is set a decade after the previous season, meaning that old-age makeup technology is constantly being put to the test. (Sometimes it works better than others.)

Are you a science nerd who's become disheartened by our collective inability as a species to work together towards a common goal, to put ego and wealth and politics aside, and simply explore the cosmos for the betterment of our species? If you haven't been following along already, allow me to point you in the direction of "For All Mankind." I should clarify, this isn't the show to watch if you're looking for an escape from all the cynicism we've been seeing in our news headlines for the better part of the 21st Century. Rather, the Apple TV+ series shines a direct light on all our missteps through an alternate-history lens -- one in which the Russians won the space race by landing a man on the moon back in the 1960s, kicking off an even more intense game of one-upmanship between the world's superpowers locked in an eternal Cold War.

When For All Mankind Season 4 gets underway on Apple TV+, viewers will see less of one of its most popular stars.
TV Line reports that Jodi Balfour is bowing out of the alt-history drama as a series regular.
Balfour, who plays Ellen, is expected to appear in some capacity.
The series has said goodbye to some fantastic people over the years, and something tells us we'll be saying goodbye to more as the years in the narrative go on.
Ellen has been a key player since For All Mankind Season 1, and her presence has been felt throughout three glorious seasons.

As you'll recall, the criminally underrated series ended its third season by writing out Shantel VanSanten's Karen Baldwin and Sonya Walger's Molly Cobb.

For All Mankind is losing another formidable woman.
Jodi Balfour, who plays NASA astronaut-turned-President Ellen Waverly, will not return as a series regular for Season 4, TVLine has learned exclusively. The actress will, however, appear in some capacity, we’re told, presumably to bring closure to her storyline. An Apple TV+ rep declined to comment.

Exclusive: Maria Mashkova (McMafia) and Dimiter Marinov (Green Book) have joined the upcoming fourth season of Apple TV+’s space drama series For All Mankind in key recurring roles.
Created by Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi, For All Mankind explores what would have happened if the global space race had never ended. The series presents an aspirational world where NASA astronauts, engineers and their families find themselves in the center of extraordinary events seen through the prism of an alternate history timeline — a world in which the Ussr beats the US to the moon.
The third season shifted the action to the early ’90s with a race to a new planetary frontier: Mars. The Red Planet became the new front in the Space Race not only for the U.S. and the Soviet Union, but also an unexpected new entrant with a lot to prove and even more at stake.

The media's obsession with mysteries involving twins is showing no signs of slowing down, and Netflix's latest effort looks like a surefire hit.
Michelle Monaghan is pulling double duty on this one from co-showrunners Brian Yorkey (13 Reasons Why) and Quinton Peeples (Runaways).
Given the previous shows the creatives worked on, we're inclined to believe this will have twists and turns coming from all directions, and that's what we like best.
"Echoes is a mystery thriller about two identical twins, Leni and Gina, who share a dangerous secret," the spoilery synopsis reads.
"Since they were children, Leni and Gina have secretly swapped lives, culminating in a double life as adults: they share two homes, two husbands, and a child but everything in their perfectly choreographed world is thrown into disarray when one of the sisters goes missing."
It certainly sounds similar to The CW's Ringer.

When Jack Carr was tucked away inside a rental in Coronado, California, typing up what would be the first of five novels centered on a Navy Seal commander named James Reese, he zeroed in on a short list of dream collaborators if the book was ever adapted.
After all, the plot seemed prime for adaptation as the first entry, The Terminal List, tracks Reece after his entire platoon was ambushed during a high-stakes covert mission. As new evidence comes to light, Reece discovers dark forces working against him, endangering not only his life, but the lives of those he loves.

Amazon Prime Video has released the first trailer for the upcoming series “The Terminal List,” which stars Chris Pratt.
Having not read the book on which it is based, the show feels a lot like the kind of hard-edged, extremely violent, surprisingly character-based exploitation films Arnold Schwarzenegger made in the 1980s in between the blockbusters and franchise films that made him a star.
So it feels appropriate that his son-in-law, Chris Pratt, who has basically turned into what can only be called Dad Bod Arnold, stars in the series — his first TV series regular role since “Parks and Recreation.” And well, the show’s action-packed trailer dropped this morning.
Watch it now — and enjoy the moody, sad, Action Scene edit of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” — in the player above.
All 8 episodes of the show premiere July 1 on Amazon Prime Video.

The history of the world is filled with predatory men who will go to great lengths to justify abusing and oppressing women and girls.
On Under the Banner of Heaven Season 1 Episode 5, things get bleak for all the women involved, and the truth about Ron is revealed.
It's the running theme of a story that keeps losing its focus.
Even though this episode is about Ron and Dan, their wives are far more compelling characters. These women are brutalized by their husbands, psychologically tortured in Matilda's case, and physically brutalized in Dianna's case.
Jeb's meeting with the Bishop and his wife reveals that these women were of little consequence to the church, possibly because they were both outsiders and forgotten by their families either due to distance or because they had written her off for "joining a cult."
Chloe Pirrie handles Matilda's resigned courage gracefully, making us feel the disgust...

FX’s “Under the Banner of Heaven” is the latest miniseries to explore the grizzly details of a real-life murder case, as television’s true-crime fascination continues to saturate Hollywood. Set in mid-1980s Salt Lake City, Utah, the story centers on devout detective Jeb Pyre (Andrew Garfield) as he unravels the mystery around the murder of a single mother, Brenda Wright Lafferty (Daisy Edgar-Jones), and her 15-month-old child.
What begins as a horrifying tale in a mellow, religion-dominated suburb soon gives way to the dark underbelly of Latter-day Saints fundamentalism and violence, leading Pyre to question his own faith as he investigates the Lafferty family’s history.
Below, TheWrap breaks down everything you need to know about the series prior to your viewing, including where and when to watch.
