Golden Globes host Jo Koy’s monologue was received poorly by both those in the room and many watching at home, but fellow comedians shared sympathy for their fellow comic — while also expressing discontent with his choice to blame his writers for the widely panned performance.
Comedian Laurie Kilmartin, who also hosts a podcast about the craft of comedy and wrote on “Conan,” was one of the prominent insider voices rising to Koy’s defense.
“This is a Terrible gig, this audience sucks,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter) regarding the job Koy himself noted he was just hired for 10 days prior. “They’re famous, nervous and humorless, and 10 days is genuinely not enough time to write about 500 jokes, which is how many you need to find 15 suitable jokes.”

What can you say about James Cameron that he hasn’t already said about himself? In all seriousness, the guy is a filmmaking legend. Starting out as a model maker for Roger Corman, Cameron worked his way up the food chain, serving as art director, production designer, and oversaw the special effects on John Carpenter’s Escape From New York before helming his 1982 directorial debut Piranha II: The Spawning. It was his sophomore feature, however, 1984’s The Terminator, that established him as one of the most exciting filmmakers of his generation.

“What do you reckon, black or white?” Mike Skinner asks, as we walk into an empty hall in East London, as he peers upwards, deciding what colour curtain to have as his backdrop ahead of some filming he had planned later that day. A seemingly innocuous, yet strikingly familiar introduction to this artist – as the man behind The Streets has always been renowned for his informal accessibility. His approachable, even intelligible tonality, the relatable lyricism, which manages to be so real, and yet so poetic at the same time. It’s a voice that defines a generation – and one that has never truly changed. Since the age of 21 when he created Original Pirate Material all the way up to the present day, and with his latest album ‘The Darker the Shadow the Brighter the Light’ and the connected feature film of the same name, it feels like truly, barely anything...

Like Bill Maher if he were very bald and occasionally funny, 55-year-old actor, “rage comic,” and blue-collar man of the people Bill Burr is a Joe Rogan liberal whose entire career is based on mocking the hypocrisies of political correctness and telling millennials to get off his lawn. He’s the living personification of Principal Skinner saying, “Am I so out of touch? No. It’s the children who are wrong!,” but in a thick Boston accent.
With that in mind, it doesn’t come as a huge surprise that Burr’s directorial debut is the story of a very bald and occasionally funny middle-aged man — played by Burr, in an inspired stroke of casting — who’s fed up with all the holier-than-thou bullshit of a modern world where everyone is just trying not to get into trouble; stand-ups don’t exactly tend to stretch themselves when they start making their own movies.

The episode opens with a scene that could pass for that of He-Man, with a hero looking straight out of Conan the Barbarian, slashing orcs and then flying away on a winged Pegasus. However, soon after Hapuna is officially introduced, Dr. Skinner vanishes.

Mike Skinner is back with The Darker the Shadow, the Brighter the Light, his new album as The Streets. The project, his first full-length album as The Streets in 12 years, arrives in full October 20th via 679 Recordings/Warner Music UK Ltd. In anticipation, the lead single “Troubled Waters” is out now.
Skinner made The Darker the Shadow, the Brighter the Light alongside a film of the same name that is self-made in every sense of the word; described as “a tripped out noir murder mystery based in London’s clubland,” the artist wrote, directed, stars in, edited, funded and produced it himself.
“It has been seven long years working on this film and album,” Skinner said in a statement. “It’s something I’ve always wanted to do and after dipping my toe in with some shorts and music videos, I felt I was ready. I tried to go the traditional route for a bit,...

Eliza Skinner had no idea that her Disney+ series Earth to Ned would be permanently taken off the platform until a text on the show’s writer group chat in mid-May shared an article about Disney removing more than 70 films and series from its streaming services that month. Among the disappearing titles was the comedic talk show — which launched in 2020 with Skinner as head writer — centering on an alien welcoming celebrities to his spaceship.
Due to its classification as a streaming variety series, Skinner says the writers and performers weren’t receiving residuals, although the show’s team had heard rumors blaming Disney’s tax bill. But while her loss isn’t a financial one, Earth to Ned can no longer serve as a calling card to help land future gigs for Skinner, who also doesn’t own a physical copy of the show.

The Simpsons Season 34 Episode 21
If we’ve learned anything from The Simpsons, it is that clowns are funny. Homer went to Krusty’s Clown College in season 6 for “Homie the Clown.” We learn they can also be profitable in “Clown V. Board of Education,” which would have been a classic episode if we hadn’t already taken this class, and paid for it with money laundered by seltzer water.
Krusty the Clown has always been a stand-in for The Simpsons itself. So, when he bemoans how he lost touch with the audience in the ‘90s, it feels like a perfect setup for a continuation of an already tenured plot. One in which we know the Simpsons can succeed as a family, and Springfield as a community. Bart follows a path Homer laid out, and brings in a tender performance with the treacle pre-trimmed.

The Simpsons Season 34 Episode 20
It is pretty apocalyptic when the locusts are everywhere, but the real monster is Rob Lowe. The Simpsons takes on the next phase of the end times in “The Very Hungry Caterpillars,” with the least teachable moments.
The Covid parody is overt, overdue to the point of last week’s news, but not quite an old joke. This is a very good breakdown of the lockdown mentality without rancor. The episode doesn’t get too preachy by getting very preachy. Extremes are funny, and The Simpsons has no problem poking wounds. The horrific atmosphere is introduced by Professor Frink, standing in for another CDC head in the form of the expert for the Center for Disgusting Caterpillars.
Frink devised a surefire hierarchy to the threat to the local community. He rates the caterpillars on a scale of ickiness, and it really sets the emotional tone.

After the surprising rise and appallingly steady excellence of The Simpsons’ first decade, many long-time supporters felt the show would have gone out on top if it ended around 2001-2002. The late 1990s era was hit with a traumatic loss with the death of comic genius Phil Hartman. After a pay dispute, voice actress Maggie Roswell left from 1999 to 2002, resulting in the death of the Maude Flanders in the episode “Alone Again, Natura-Diddily.” But the first cracks in the series’ “Golden Age” appeared when Principal Skinner was redacted and retrofitted for “The Principal and the Pauper,” from season 9. It was seen as a major copout.

A little bit of 9-1-1: Lone Star is coming to Springfield in “The Very Hungry Caterpillars” episode of The Simpsons on May 7 as Rob Lowe makes a special guest voice appearance. “When caterpillars swarm Springfield, the city goes into lockdown mode—forcing the Simpsons to deal with the stress of isolation: Lisa imagines her Malibu Stacy dolls have come to life; Bart and his friends spy on Skinner’s family; Marge and Homer frantically search for a supply of ranch dressing for baby Maggie, pitting them against a Rapture-crazed Ned Flanders,” says an official synopsis. On day two of the lockdown, Bart logs into a Zoom-type meeting hosted by Principal Skinner. As Bart closes the windows on his computer screen, he realizes that Skinner’s left his computer camera on, and he can see everything going on. Frank Skinner tearfully revealed on his radio show that his former co-host Gareth Richards is fighting for his life.
The broadcaster broke down in tears on Saturday (1 April) while telling Absolute Radio listeners that Richards was involved in a “very big road accident” earlier this week.
He raised the subject at the end of his show, saying: “One thing you have to learn to do in this line of work is to put on a false front and the show must go on, and that’s what happened this morning.”
Fighting back tears, Skinner said: “Gareth was in a very big road accident this week and it’s not looking great for Gareth. He is in hospital and he’s fighting but it’s not looking great.”
Richards, who is a comedian, was reportedly in a serious collision near Heathrow airport on the M25.
