Former NBCUniversal vice chairman Ron Meyer’s close-knit family is filled with lifestyle moguls-in-the-making, with four women in the clan helming consumer product companies. “The idea wasn’t to start a quote-unquote company,” says his oldest daughter, Jennifer Meyer, the celebrated jewelry designer who became the first entrepreneur of his children. “I thought, ‘Let me see if I can do something that I love.’ “
The family patriarch, who stepped down from NBCUniversal in 2020, is currently an adviser to the Doha Film Institute and co-ceo of Wild Bunch, a European production and distribution company. His son, Eli, and first wife, Ellen, also have more traditional entertainment jobs — Eli works in the original films department at Netflix and Ellen runs talent firm Ellen Meyer Management (clients include Naveen Andrews and Rosanna Arquette). Here’s the scoop on the brand-building efforts of the rest of the family.

The stars were shining bright on Saturday as some of Hollywood's finest attended the Lacma Art+Film Gala. While Yara Shahidi, who stunned in a golden gown, and Tyler, the Creator struck funny poses in front of cameras, other stars such as Amandla Stenberg, Brie Larson, and Carson Meyer stuck to classic red carpet postures. The party continued inside the venue as attendees, including Regina King, Naomi Campbell, Donald Glover, and Kiki Layne, enjoyed photo ops and conversation. Guests were also treated to a performance from Billie Eilish, who rocked a head-to-toe Gucci ensemble.
The annual event raises funds to help the Los Angeles County Museum of Art support exhibitions, acquisitions, and educational programming that involve film and other creative media. This year, it was sponsored by Gucci and honored artist Betye Saar and filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón. Look ahead to see which celebrities took part in the festivities!

Written and directed by Paul Shoulberg, the odd and occasionally profound dark comedy Ms. White Light features a unique profession at its core: the morality industry offering a niche product to consumers looking for a person to comfort their loved ones as they pass. A hospice nurse can pump them full of drugs, but the mortality counselors at father and daughter small business Cordova and Cordova extensively research their clients. Enter Val (Judith Light), a woman who retains the Cordovas, amongst other professionals, to keep her company much to the annoyance of Lex Cordova (Roberta Colindrez), who is good at her job but at not very much else.
Like anyone who’s been forced to be on for an extended period of time, Lex has issues dealing with grieving families after death has come for their loved one. In the film’s opening scene she profoundly reads a dying woman...

The 26th edition of the SXSW Film Festival will feature movies directed by Harmony Korine and Olivia Wilde, an untitled romantic comedy starring Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron and a concert film with comedian Kathy Griffin.
The annual gathering in Austin, Texas, which starts on March 8, will open with Jordan Peele’s “Us,” which was previously announced. The thriller stars Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke and Elisabeth Moss.
There will be 102 features and TV episodes featured over nine days.
In recent years, SXSW has upped its game as a festival that covers a lot of ground. It reliably launches a few spring studio hits, such as last year’s “The Quiet Place” and “Blockers,” and also discovers under-the-radar storytellers. For attendees, there’s also keynote addresses with filmmakers and actors.
The standouts in this year’s lineup include Korine’s “The Beach Bum,” a much-anticipated comedy starring Matthew McConaughey, Snoop Dogg and Zac Efron.

From acclaimed L.A.-based artist Alex Israel comes ‘Spf-18‘. This will be Israel’s first foray into feature films, as his career has mostly comprised of making splashes in the La art scene. The film itself includes elements of his gallery shows, and Israel describes the film as “An artwork for teenagers, who watch movies at school, on iTunes, and on Netflix.” This trailer for ‘Spf-18‘ seems reminiscent of recent coming of age tales like ‘The Kings of Summer‘ and ‘The Way, Way Back‘, mixed with the cheekiness of a show like ‘The O.C.‘.
‘Spf-18‘ is sure to follow in the same vein, albeit providing a more millennial approach. The film stars Carson Meyer, Noah Centineo, Bianca Santos, Jackson White, Sean Russel Herman, Rosanna Arquette, Molly Ringwald, Keanu Reeves, Pamela Anderson, and Goldie Hawn.
Here’s the official synopsis:

While “Girls” is set to air its final season sometime next year, main cast member Zosia Mamet has spent the past year appearing in films like Todd Solondz’s “Wiener-Dog” and Steve Bernstein’s “Dominion.” Now, she’s set to appear in the new film “Goldbricks in Bloom,” a social satire that explores what it means to be an artist today by interweaving the story of a self-obsessed group of disenchanted young creatives with the mythic rise and fall of a New York painter. Watch a brief trailer for the film below featuring Mamet talking about the actors in the film.
