‘Gentleman Jack’: HBO & BBC Renew Sally Wainwright’s Suranne Jones-Fronted Period Drama For Season 2
HBO and BBC period drama Gentleman Jack has been handed a second season. Sally Wainwright’s Suranne Jones-fronted series will return for another eight-part run.
It comes as the Lookout Point-produce drama is still on the air. The series debuted on HBO on April 22 in its new Monday night slot and on the BBC on May 19. It became the BBC’s biggest new drama launch of the year with an average overnight audience of 5.1 million viewers.
Written by Happy Valley creator Wainwright, it tells the story of Anne Lister, played by Jones, who had a passion for life and a mind for business, and bucked society’s expectations at every turn.
Gentleman Jack focuses on Regency landowner Lister in the period drama, which is set in 1832 Halifax, West Yorkshire. She is determined to transform the fate of her faded ancestral home, Shibden Hall, by reopening the coal mines and marrying well.

Stars: John C. Reilly, Steve Coogan, Nina Arianda, Shirley Henderson, Stephanie Hyam, Danny Huston, Richard Cant, Susy Kane, Rufus Jones | Written by Jeff Pope | Directed by Jon S. Baird
Director Jon S. Baird’s anticipated passion project on iconic due Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, played by John C. Reilly and Steve Coogan, respectively is a delightful effulgent nuanced picture. Highlighting the iconic duo’s last rodeo of substantial relevancy in their comedy hall tour around Great Britain offers a detailed and eye-opening account of the lives and personalities on the somewhat sadly faded legacy of two comedic giants. The chaotic, yet ironically straight shaped routine with its abundance of cynosure screen presence is felt within a matter of seconds within the opening sequence with distinctive mannerisms and traits.

Stan & Ollie is a biopic about Laurel and Hardy, the world’s most famous comedy duo, attempting to reignite their film careers as they embark on what becomes their swan song – a grueling theatre tour of post-war Britain. Shirley Henderson stars as Oliver’s wife Lucille Hardy and Danny Huston, Nina Arianda, Rufus Jones and Stephanie Hyam complete the main cast. It was directed by Jon S. Baird and written by Jeff Pope.
Coogan and Reilly talk about the timeless appeal of Laurel & Hardy, how their comedy is based on the opposite of hate and why now joy is such an important thing to be part of. Reilly talks about the theatricality of the film, and how they both got into the physicality...

If there’s going to be a late breaking Oscar contender in 2018, we may have found it. Hardly on the radar until recently, Stan & Ollie has a chance to crash the Academy Award party this year. There’s been rumors that it was one to watch, so now that we have a Trailer that dropped yesterday, it is easy to see why. Charming yet emotional, voters could go for this in a big way. We’ll discuss that shortly, and you’ll be able to see the Trailer as well. Watch out for this one, especially in terms of one specific category. You’ll see what I mean in a bit. The movie is a biopic about the legendary comedy duo Laurel and Hardy. This is the synopsis for the biographical dramedy: “The true story of Hollywood’s greatest comedy double act, Laurel and Hardy, is brought to the big screen for the first time.

John C. Reilly is having a big finish to 2018. In addition to leading Jacques Audiard’s “The Sisters Brothers” opposite Joaquin Phoenix (in theaters September 14), the actor is also re-teaming with Will Ferrell for the Christmas-release comedy “Holmes and Watson” and has a potential awards player in the upcoming biopic “Stan & Ollie.” The latter casts Reilly opposite Steve Coogan as Oliver Hardy and Stan Laurel, respectively.
“Stan & Ollie,” directed by Jon S. Baird, centers around the iconic Laurel & Hardy comedy duo as they attempt to reignite their careers by going on a grueling theater tour across post-war Britain. The drama co-stars Stephanie Hyam and Shirley Henderson, but everyone will be talking about Reilly’s extreme transformation as Hardy.

The Rundown
“Doctor Who’s” finale concludes the two-parter that had begun as an exercise for Missy (Michelle Gomez) to prove she could do good, but results in Bill (Pearl Mackie) becoming a Modasian Cyberman as a wave of Cybermen begin to take over a giant human colony ship. Knowing that this is probably the beginning of the end of Twelve (Peter Capaldi) added poignancy to every last stand he took. Even Missy couldn’t help be affected by him, as the evil influence of her earlier iteration, the Master (John Simms) was leading her astray the whole time. Her arc from megalomaniac psychopath to someone who’s grown a conscience is compelling if not for her unsatisfying end. More on that later.

The Rundown
Finally, finally! After a year without a proper season, “Doctor Who” returned and felt familiar and comfortable, no mean feat when introducing a new companion. The episode lulled viewers and Bill Potts (Pearl Mackie) into complacency first by setting much of the early action at St. Luke’s University in Bristol, before shifting to the more spectacular aspects of the Whoniverse we all know and love. Overall, the premiere did well to set up a rapport between Twelve and Bill, while teasing out a few story arcs to come.

A fan-favorite character is returning to Season 10 of “Doctor Who.” The BBC announced that Matt Lucas, known for playing Nardole, will be making an appearance in the opening episode of the upcoming season.
“I’m chuffed to bits that Nardole is returning to the Tardis for some more adventures. I loved acting with Peter and I’m excited to work with Pearl,” Lucas said in a statement.
Nardole is a human cyborg who made his first appearance in the 2015 Christmas special, “The Husbands of River Song.” He was told by Professor Song to find the surgeon needed to extract the Halassi Androvar from the head of King Hydroflax. But instead, Nardole found Doctor Who and took him to the Professor.
