Although “Challengers” screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes and director Luca Guadagnino are no strangers to working with each other, their collaboration process on the upcoming film “Queer,” an adaptation of a William S. Burroughs novel that will star Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey, was entirely different.
The Black List alum previously told IndieWire on the red carpet for the Los Angeles premiere of “Challengers” that accepting the task of his first adapted screenplay was a “no brainer.” Elaborating on how exactly the task of making “Queer,” a film adaptation both Guadagnino and other filmmakers had been chasing, came to be, Kuritzkes later told IndieWire over Zoom, “One day, on the set of ‘Challengers,’ [Luca] just gave me this book and said, ‘Read this tonight and tell me if you want to write it for me.’”
He added, “I was so completely honored and touched that Luca would trust me with this movie. And...

A decade ago, director David Bruckner made a valiant attempt to get a new Friday the 13th film into production… it just didn’t happen. Years later, he did manage to reboot the Hellraiser franchise, with his version of Hellraiser getting released through the Hulu streaming service back in October of 2022. Surprisingly, a year and a half has gone by since that release and we haven’t heard anything about the possibility of a follow-up – until now. During a chat with ComicBook.com, producer Keith Levine confirmed that they are having conversations about making a Hellraiser sequel.
Levine said, “We are trying to do a follow-up and there have been conversations. I can’t exactly say where we’re at in those conversations, but Bruckner is involved in those conversations and we spent a lot of time and energy, I think relaunching that world. A lot of brainpower going into crafting the Cenobite design,...

Josh O’Connor is in talks to star in Luca Guadagnino’s new drama “Separate Rooms,” an adaptation of the eponymous novel by the late Italian writer Pier Vittorio Tondelli. The story follows an Italian writer named Leo who is mourning the loss of his boyfriend.
O’Connor, who stars in Guadagnino’s upcoming tennis love triangle film “Challengers” alongside Zendaya and Mike Faist, is in advanced talks to play Leo in “Separate Rooms,” whose passionate romance with a shy German musician named Thomas is marked by different forms of separation. O’Connor has already been studying Italian for the role, even though he is not yet fully contractualized, according to several sources.
Guadagnino this weekend announced in Italy’s La Repubblica’s weekly magazine Venerdì that he will shoot the film based on Tondelli’s novel “soon.” The book, titled “Camere separate” in Italian, came out in 1989 in Italy and was subsequently published in English.

Say goodbye to Luca Guadagnino’s “Scarface” movie.
The “Challengers” and “Call Me by Your Name” director confirmed to The Hindu that he is no longer attached to helm a reinterpretation of the iconic mobster movie. Guadagnino was first attached to “Scarface” in 2020, with Ethan and Joel Coen writing the script.
“I’m not working on ‘Scarface’ anymore,” Guadagnino told the outlet in November 2023.
He later added of adaptations in general, “For me, when approaching any book adaptation or remake, it’s about understanding what the story carries within itself that goes beyond the form of the original work. So that you can tell that story from a completely different perspective. Whether it’s fresh or not, I cannot tell. But it’s different.”
Howard Hawks’ 1932 original “Scarface,” based on Armitage Trail’s novel, was later iconically remade in 1983 by director Brian De Palma using a script by Oliver Stone...

Josephine Langford starrer The Other Zoey attempts to do with Zoey as 10 Things I Hate About You did with Kat. Over the years, we’ve seen many charming “not like other girls” characters play the protagonists of mediocre rom-coms and make them out to be more than they are. Zoey is one such character, but the terrible writing and strange pacing of this film fail to make it engaging. With a few changes, this film might have been the one that brought back the charm of old Hollywood rom-coms that everyone has been desperately missing for a long time now. The Other Zoey is a classic case of second-hand embarrassment that goes too far. The film follows genius Zoey Miller, who believes love is all about data and romance is a capitalist strategy. When the college soccer team captain, Zach, meets with an accident and wakes up with amnesia, he mistakes Zoey for his girlfriend.

As if paying penance for starring in all five “After” films to date — a series that’s been criticized for glamorizing toxic, controlling relationships à la “Twilight” and “50 Shades” before it — Josephine Langford now dallies on the decidedly wholesome side of romantic complication in “The Other Zoey.” This innocuous comedy, hinging on a gimmicky plot contrivance, doesn’t transcend formula even when it’s winking at the clichés it caves to. Still, it’s a pleasant enough diversion for those who want familiar genre beats sounded by the usual attractive actors in the customary attractive settings. That audience seems unlikely to stampede Brainstorm Media’s limited theatrical release on Friday, as this is exactly the sort of comfort-food fare one expects to stream at home — an option arriving November 10th.

"You have to go after what you want, and be brave!" Brainstorm Media has revealed an official trailer for a romantic comedy called The Other Zoey, the second feature made by an up-and-coming filmmaker named Sara Zandieh. Opening in theaters later in October if anyone wants to find out who she picks. Directed by Sara Zandieh, the film features a talented ensemble cast, including Josephine Langford, Drew Starkey, Archie Renaux, Mallori Johnson, Patrick Fabian, Heather Graham, and Andie MacDowell, The Other Zoey promises to be an enjoyable romantic-comedy with a "fresh look" at love & dating. New Delhi, Sep 21 (Ians) The trailer for actress Josephine Langford’s new rom-com film ‘The Other Zoey’, and is a fun and light-hearted teen-drama-romance-dramedy which shows the blooming of an accidental and unlikely romance.
The trailer follows the character of Zoey Miller (Langford), a super smart computer major who is completely uninterested in romance and is rather a snobby know-it-all.
A take on the stereotypical American portrayal of intellectual girls, Zoey has her life thrown upside down when Zach (Starkey), a typical popular college soccer player whom she has little interest in, and even a certain level of dislike, gets amnesia.
Initially, the two start off on completely wrong terms with Zack passing snarky and sarcastic remarks while Zoey takes a dig at his sarcasm and wisecracks. Both part ways with an instant dislike.
Things suddenly turn around when one day a car rams into Zack, leading him to becoming an amnesiac.

It might be too early to call it, but The Hollywood Reporter Roma may have given the best party of the 80th Venice Film Festival.
THR Roma, the first European edition of The Hollywood Reporter, threw a starry and glam but also surprisingly chill bash Sunday night at their festival villa, a stone’s throw from The Excelsior Hotel on the Lido. THR Roma had its official launch, in Rome, in April but the Venice bash marked its international coming out, and the group used the occasion to present its first stand-alone print edition (more on that later).
There were shades of Pablo Sorrentino’s famed party sequence in The Great Beauty as a who’s who of the Italian film and fashion industries — among them the cast of Venice festival opener Comandante, including Italian superstar Pierfrancesco Favino and director Edoardo De Angelis, Adagio filmmaker Stefano Sollima, and Valentino’s...

Being an independent producer was never easy. But these days, it’s near impossible. Even before the dual writers and actors strikes, changes in the international film and TV market had made life tough for the indies. Old models of art house moviemaking have been ravaged by a combination of decline in the specialty box office, the collapse of ancillary revenue for home entertainment and TV licensing, and the more recent pullback by streaming companies, who have begun to back fewer, and more mainstream, movies.
But one indie production company has gone from making just a handful of movies a year to dozens, finding a way to turn the turbulent new reality into a business model for making cutting-edge art house cinema that, shockingly, can actually turn a profit. It’s the company behind five of the most hotly anticipated titles at the Venice Film Festival this year: Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things,...

A young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension.
Ever since first seeing The Ritual back in 2017, it’s been crystal clear to me that filmmaker David Bruckner is one of the best of our time. His horror films are legitimately terrifying and manage to tackle themes such as grief, loss, and trauma in shockingly powerful ways. My favourite film of 2021 was The Night House, directed by Bruckner masterfully. On the surface, it’s essentially a creepy movie about a woman who may or may not be dealing with some paranormal, otherworldly stuff in her complexly designed house, but underneath it all, it’s really a...

In season 2 of the Netflix series, Ward’s death streak continued. He killed his pilot, Gavin (Adam Vernier), fearing Gavin would tell the police the truth about Sherriff Peterkin’s (Adina Porter) death and expose Rafe (Drew Starkey). When he felt like he no longer had control,...

A few of last year’s most notable horror movies are still without physical media releases, and that’s because they ended up being streaming exclusives. That list includes Netflix’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Hulu’s Prey, along with Hulu and David Bruckner‘s Hellraiser.
We have no idea at this time whether or not Hellraiser will be released on DVD/Blu-ray here in the United States, but we’ve learned the film is hitting DVD over in the United Kingdom.
The UK DVD release of Hellraiser (2022) arrives on March 27, 2023. As always, you’ll be able to watch the disc here in the States but you’ll need a Region Free DVD player first.
David Bruckner (The Night House), who helmed Netflix’s The Ritual as well as sections of Bloody Disgusting’s horror anthologies V/H/S and Southbound, directed the relaunch of the Hellraiser franchise for Spyglass Media,...

The cast of Outer Banks have heard all of the bizarre, creative, and somewhat genius theories that fans have brainstormed throughout the Netflix show’s three seasons. Some theories are a bit too unbelievable to ever come true. However, others are so twisted they just might work. The Outer Banks sibling theory, in particular, has intrigued Madelyn Cline so much that she’s trying to get the writers to make it happen. Here’s a closer look at the sibling theory and what Cline had to say about it.

Outer Banks Season 2 ended with the jaw-dropping reveal that John B.’s dad was still alive. Since that final episode dropped more than 18 months ago, fans have discussed their theories about what this means for the story moving forward. According to one, it’s very possible that John B.’s dad could be the series’ new villain.
Chase Stokes and Charles Halford | Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix ‘Outer Banks’ Season 3 is on the island of ‘Poguelandia’
The Netflix trailer for Outer Banks Season 3 was all about “two tribes, one island” off the coast of North Carolina. The series continues to follow the wealthy and elite “Kooks” and the working class “Pogues,” and this time they are alive and abandoned on a deserted island now deemed “Poguelandia.”
In the 10-episode third season, the island’s new residents appear to be living an idyllic, care-free life as they fish and swim together.

Outer Banks is a Netflix series created by Shannon Burke, Jonas Pate and Josh Pate starring Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline and Jonathan Daviss.
This series about rich and poor is back, this has been a great success for Netflix and now the story is renewed after two seasons full of adventures, romances… and lots of beautiful people too.
If you haven´t seen it yet… you are in for a great time, not much room for reflection, this is an adventure about young people specially created for them. Full of adventures, mysteries and tensions in characters that fight to change if not the world, their small islands of inequities they have been born in.
A very Goonies style entertaiment, sure, but this is really fun and addictive.
To be enjoyed!

The first few seasons of “Outer Banks” were dumb fun — but is the amusement wearing thin? The start of Season 3 appears to suspect the viewer is as foolish as the Pogues, the pack of adventurous adolescent have-nots in the posh North Carolina beach community of the show’s title. Another season arrives with yet another elusive “Outer Banks” treasure hunt. Are we greyhounds chasing a mechanical Netflix rabbit, never to reach fruition?
When we last left the Pogues, the five-pack had improbably skirted death yet again by jumping off a freighter that was carrying Pope’s (Jonathan Daviss) priceless inheritance of a giant jeweled cross, as well as Sarah (Madelyn Cline)’s murderous family members, controlling dad Wade (Charles Esten) and sociopathic brother Rafe (Drew Starkey).
Naturally, the eternal summer teens all landed on an idyllic deserted island, left to survive on fruit, fish and fun, aided by new Pogue...

Chase Stokes is the star of Netflix’s smash hit teen drama “Outer Banks,” but it turns out he missed his chance to be in an even bigger Netflix blockbuster. Speaking to Access Hollywood ahead of “Outer Banks” Season 3 launching on Netflix, Stokes revealed that he auditioned to play Steve Harrington in “Stranger Things” but completely bombed the audition.
“I actually read for Steve Harrington,” Stokes said. “I forgot all the lines and absolutely [fucked] up the audition. I drove eight hours from Atlanta back to Orlando regretting every moment of my life on that.”
Although “Stranger Things” creators Matt and Ross Duffer decided to write Stokes into the show’s first season, it was for a small non-speaking role in just one episode.
“I wish I could have at least said two words,” Stokes said, adding that the Duffer Brothers made the right call casting Joe Keery in the role of fan-favorite Steve,...
