Being one of the best modern filmmakers with his personal zest that makes his movies stand out, Quentin Tarantino has received numerous accolades for his work in the industry throughout the years of his long-standing career, though not many may know that he actually wasn’t that much recognised for one of his finest scripts.
This fact may indeed come as something surprising given that all of the director’s movies have become a cult classic, but the point here is that Tarantino never got to direct what could’ve been his most brilliant film.
Back in the 1990s Tarantino was yet an unknown, but ambitious aspiring director whose career was put on hold due to the fact that he didn’t have too much money. To finance his directorial debut, Reservoir Dogs released in 1992, Tarantino sold his screenplay destined for another movie to Tony Scott. He later on adapted...

Three decades ago, Christian Slater met Val Kilmer on the set of True Romance, the Quentin Tarantino-penned, Tony Scott-directed crime thriller. Slater played Clarence Worley, an Elvis Presley fanatic, while Kilmer portrayed the Mentor, an Elvis-like figment of Clarence’s imagination. Slater and Kilmer, who first made their names in the 1980s, would go on to work together another three times in the early 2000s, making their latest connection on Jonathan Kasdan’s Willow (2022) sequel series all the more fitting.
With Covid-19 restrictions preventing Kilmer from reprising his beloved rogue swordsman, Madmartigan, from Ron Howard’s 1988 film, Kasdan knew he needed another wildcard-type character that could bring a similar energy. So he created Allagash, a former knight and running mate of Madmartigan, and the first person he thought of for the role was Slater.

A keystone film for understanding Quentin Tarantino is one he didn't direct: "True Romance," one of the first feature scripts he wrote. While he ceded directing duties to Tony Scott, his signature on the finished film is still legible.
The lead, Clarence Worley (Christian Slater), is Tarantino's avatar. A mid-20s pop culture fanatic who works at a comic book store and loves Elvis Pressley (and Kung-Fu movies), Clarence is the spitting image of who Tarantino was when he created the character. In some chuckle-worthy wish fulfillment, Clarence's pop culture knowledge also impresses girls, namely Alabama Whitman (Patricia Arquette). Another telling "True Romance" character is Drexl Spivey, "a white guy who thinks he's black."
"True Romance" feels more personal for Tarantino than "Reservoir Dogs" — it even jumps to Hollywood after the first act. It's easy to imagine a world where "True Romance" was his debut instead. If Tony Scott...

The edgy screenplay for this flashy, rough-edged ‘lovers, drugs & guns’ saga served to jump-start Quentin Tarantino’s movie career; he’s identified it as his most autobiographical work. Tony Scott slicked up the visuals and ironed out the nonlinear narrative but it’s still a Qt epic through and through. And that cast of suspects is phenomenal: Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette, Dennis Hopper, Val Kilmer, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt, Christopher Walken, Bronson Pinchot, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Rapaport, Saul Rubinek, Conchata Ferrell & James Gandolfini.

Even after a three-decade Hollywood career that won her an Oscar and two Emmys, Patricia Arquette is still synonymous with “True Romance.” Her role as Alabama Whitman, a call girl who marries a client and ends up tangled in a web of crime after the newlyweds steal a shipment of cocaine, launched Arquette into the mainstream. The cult film’s pop culture status has only grown in the 29 years since its release, as it is now seen as an essential 1990s movie and a perennial inspiration for Instagram Halloween costumes.
The film’s content was shocking to some viewers at the time of its release, particularly due to its excessive violence and abundant pop culture references. Both are trademarks of screenwriter Quentin Tarantino, who was a new filmmaker at the time, having only directed “Reservoir Dogs” when “True Romance was released. Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker proved they have one true romance. The newly engaged pair, who hasn't shied away from packing on the Pda since they started dating last December, celebrated their relationship by dressing up as another iconic couple for Halloween. As fans might recall, they recently donned Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen costumes. But this time around, Kravis got into the holiday spirit by recreating looks from the Blink-182 drummer's favorite movie: True Romance. The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star channeled Alabama Whitman (played by Patricia Arquette), while Travis dressed up as Clarence Worley (Christian...
