Helldivers 2 has been out for about three months and in that time, we have seen plenty of new and interesting content, from mission types, weapons, and stratagems.
The community achieved a major milestone when they defeated the Automaton army and had their hopes swiftly dashed a few days later when they returned. Helldivers 2 is still going strong and has daily player counts in the hundreds of thousands and the speculations of crossovers are all around.
We’re Yet to See Confirmation of Franchise Crossovers
Crossovers in Helldivers 2 would make the game a much more strong contender for Goty.
There is one thing though that we have not yet seen added to the game that would surely boost the popularity of the game even further, franchise crossovers. In an interview with Cgm, Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt was asked about the possibility of guest characters from the game’s major inspirations making appearances.

"Starship Troopers" was not a big hit when it arrived in 1997, and many audiences didn't know what to make of the darkly satirical tone created by "RoboCop" filmmaker Paul Verhoeven. In the years since its release, however, Verhoeven's violent, funny, action-packed sci-fi flick has been re-evaluated and become both a cult classic and a movie that some people still don't understand.
Adapted from Robert A. Heinlein's novel, "Starship Troopers" follows a group of youngsters who get swept up in being soldiers when alien bugs attack Earth. Of course, the war ends up being hell, and many of these fresh young faces are cut down in increasingly nasty ways. And then, just in case all of the satire went over your head, Verhoeven ends things by having Neil Patrick Harris show up dressed in a Nazi uniform.

Despite releasing less than a month ago, Arrowhead Game Studios’ Helldivers 2 has managed to become one of the most popular third-person shooters. Now, Arrowhead’s CEO and Helldivers 2‘s creative director, Johan Pilestedt, has left the fans wild as he has hinted at a possible crossover movie between 1997’s Starship Troopers and Helldivers 2.
Helldivers 2
Pilestedt recently had an interaction on X with actor Casper Van Dien, who played Johnny Rico in the 1997 sci-fi action movie. During the conversation, Pilestedt told the community that he thinks Helldivers 2 needs some “Roughnecks” in the game. So, fans can hope to see the elite unit from Starship Troopers very soon in the game. As of now, it’s not clear how this crossover will happen but Pilestedt is keen on making it a reality.

“You get me?” barks Career Drill Sergeant Zim (Clancy Brown). The young, beautiful, and vapid recruits giving him their full attention answer in kind: “Sir yes sir!” Johnny Rico (Casper Van Dien) and his fellow roughnecks might get Zim, but most people do not. Since its first theatrical run through today, viewers misread, misunderstand, and, frankly, misattribute Starship Troopers time and again, failing to see the cutting satire at work.
The most recent example comes from author Isaac Young, who took to Twitter to critique the film’s approach to satire. Young argued that director Paul Verhoeven failed to make fun of the Terran Federation because the attractive heroes, clean cities, and technologically advanced schools look nicer than the ugly bugs they fight.
Why the first Starship Troopers movie failed as a parody, a thread:
Watching the movie, it was clear the director was aiming for a campy, over-the-top depiction of the Terran Federation.

Look, I don’t want to waste anyone’s time. We all know that Starship Troopers (watch it Here) isn’t a horror movie. It’s a science fiction intergalactic comedy with a light tone and Neil Patrick Harris- but it’s also a well-made and tightly performed 90s creature feature that is sure to tickle the nostalgia bone for many JoBlo Horror fans. And with Paul Verhoeven being fresh on the mind from our Robocop episode, we thought it would only make sense to follow it up with another Verhoeven classic that showcases how far the director had come in the 10 years between these two films. If you’re still not convinced, this film also delivers on terrifying creatures, plenty of blood and guts, and even some boobies for you slasher trope seekers out there. While being more comedy/action than anything- Starship Troopers is a film that...

It's getting weird out there. We almost seem to be living in a post-satire era, where fact and fiction feel so interchangeable that it can be hard to tell what's news and what's a well-written joke. When The Onion starts feeling more accurate than The New York Times, it's hard to tell which end is up, and media literacy is at an all-time low. That means satire is being read completely straight, and while that's nothing new (remember "Fight Club"?), it does feel pretty scary. Then again, one of the greatest satires of all time was originally taken at face value (and still is by some viewers) — that's right, I'm talking about Paul Verhoeven's "Starship Troopers."
The 1997 sci-fi action flick was based on the very straight-faced novel of the same name by Robert Heinlein. Heinlein's novel depicts a fascist futuristic society where citizenship is inherent but something that must be earned,...

"Starship Troopers" failed to land when it opened in November 1997. Casper Van Dien and Denise Richards were not bankable leads, and audiences expecting a conventional sci-fi epic were thrown off by the film's curious style, which is a mix of televisual soap operas and satirical militarism. Consequently, "Troopers" received a mediocre "C+" from CinemaScore and grossed just $121 million against a $100 million budget (via The Numbers).
Critics were not best pleased, either, especially Stephen Hunter, who attacked "Troopers" as a film that "presupposes" Nazism. Such literal-mindedness misses that Paul Verhoven's film is satirical meta-propaganda, not a cosmic fascist fantasy. The numerous propaganda bulletins make this clear, but the propaganda does not stop there. These bulletins are propaganda within propaganda because "Starship Troopers" can be viewed as one big propaganda piece vetted by the United Citizen Federation, the film's dystopian one-world government.

There is an old sketch from British comedians Mitchell and Webb; if you didn't see the show, you've probably seen the meme. As they await the approach of Russian troops, an SS officer consults his colleague regarding the skull-and-crossbones insignia on their caps. Hesitantly he asks, "Are we the baddies?"
It's a question that never crosses the minds of the protagonists in "Starship Troopers," Paul Verhoeven's violent satire of military excess and jingoism that drips with the same kind of fashion sense and iconography as the Third Reich. The director said he wanted to "make a film about fascists who aren't aware of their fascism" (via The Guardian) and to make his point he convinced Hollywood to give him 100 million to create a splattery sci-fi epic about teens fighting giant bugs on a distant planet.

Paul Verhoeven's 1997 war satire "Starship Troopers" was initially greeted with skepticism from audiences and critics alike. Set in a distant future where humanity is engaged in a seemingly permanent war with outsize intelligent insects, Verhoeven made extensive use of clear-throated, pro-military propaganda and clothed his all-too-attractive cast in Nazi-like regalia. With its glorified violence and deliberately idiotic bluster, "Starship Troopers" was very clearly meant to read as a parody of actual fascist filmmaking as seen in Nazi films like Leni Riefenstahl's 1935 film "The Triumph of the Will" and her 1938 film "Olympia." Despite its satirical tone, some critics described "Troopers" as being aggressively pro-fascist, and accused Verhoeven of selling the very military mindset he worked so hard to eschew.
Although the film would go on to make over 120 million at the box office, "Starship Troopers" was considered something of a "lesser" film in 1997, and wasn't held in very high regard.

Today, Paul Verhoeven's "Starship Troopers" is mostly remembered and still revered for the groundbreaking Oscar-nominated visual effects from Phil Tippett's Tippett Studio and Sony Pictures Imageworks (Spi). Losing the Oscar to James Cameron's "Titanic," the incredibly self-aware space epic has stayed in the public consciousness mostly due to the biting satire and enduring soap opera appeal that Verhoeven and the chiseled actors injected into the film. Based on Robert Heinlein's overtly pro-war book of the same name, Verhoeven and his writing partner Ed Neumeier took what they had learned making the dystopian action classic "Robocop" and applied it to their overblown version of "Starship Troopers."
Plans of making a big-budget parody of a sci-fi action blockbuster became even more apparent with the casting of Casper Van Dien and Denise Richards, two classically beautiful actors that looked like they walked out of the pages of a comic book.

Do you reflect on the characters you’ve played once filming has finished? Did Carmen from Starship Troopers live to regret dumping the film’s hero, Johnny Rico, or did she live her happily ever after? RoteHahn
I usually think more about what happened off camera and where I was in life at that time. Starship Troopers was pretty much our first movie, we were all unknowns, so it was a wonderful bonding moment. Some of the characters I’ve played have died, so I know what happened to them. But I don’t think Carmen regrets breaking up with Johnny. She probably misses him but it was important for her to grow into a woman.

"Dad never thought I was crazy!" Cartel & To The Stars has revealed a teaser trailer for a mysterious sci-fi thriller project titled Monsters of California, arriving sometime later this year. This has a vintage look and feel, referencing the kind of low-budget sci-fi movies they don't make anymore. Marking the directorial debut of rocker Tom DeLonge (of Blink 182 and Angels & Airwaves), Monsters of California follows the teenager Dallas Edwards and his misfit friends as they attempt to unearth answers to a series of mysterious, paranormal events happening around Southern California. They soon begin to unravel the extraordinary secrets held within the deepest levels of the Government. The film stars Richard Kind, Casper Van Dien (Johnny Rico!!), Arianne Zucker, Camille Kostek, Gabrielle Haugh, Jack Samson, Jared Scott, and Jack Lancaster. This doesn't look half bad, but there's so much going on in this teaser it's a bit hard to make any sense of it.

If we do see a Starship Troopers TV show it’s likely going to be a while, but at the very least it sounds like it might feature Casper Van Dien, the original Johnny Rico himself. It’s also been mentioned that Jake Busey is down for the return as well as Ace, though both of them would now be the old men on the set when it comes to the story, as they both would likely acknowledge. If anyone’s keeping count the original movie started off in 1997 and the latest movie came out in 2017 and was animated, with several

Paul Verhoeven’s Starship Troopers went over the heads of many audiences when it was first released in November 1997, with countless critics and viewers alike dismissing it as a hollow and brainless shoot-em-up, which saw the $105 million blockbuster bomb at the box office after just barely edging past the $120 million mark globally.
However, in the decades since then, the movie has undergone a complete reappraisal, and now comfortably ranks as an all-time cult classic. Obviously the director of RoboCop, Total Recall and Basic Instinct wasn’t going to make a straightforward studio-mandated action flick, and Starship Troopers has since been recognized as a whip-smart and razor-sharp satire of U.S. militarism, foreign policy and capitalism itself that also features a heavy dose of giant aliens being blown into pieces for good measure.

A couple of years ago it was announced that Sony Pictures would be developing a remake of Starship Troopers. Well, now it looks like there’s also a TV series in development and it could bring back the original cast of the 1997 film.
This latest information comes from screenwriter Ed Neumeier. In a recent interview with Hn Entertainment, he was asked about the possibility of a sequel, and that’s when he said:
”Well, I think they can. I don’t want to jinx anything, but we are talking about trying to do a television show that is based on that idea.”
The series would be set 30 years after the events of the film and it’s definitely something that I’d be interested in watching! What fan of the original film wouldn’t!? Neumeier went on to share that he has "mixed feelings" regarding the remake:

If we stop and think about the fun cartoons of our childhood, we discover that many had... unusual influences
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
Most of us don’t associate kids’ cartoons with the horror genre. Childhood is supposed to be a time of innocence after all, and horror’s heart belongs to darkness. But throughout the years, cartoons and the horror genre have been frequent bedfellows, and animated works featuring ghosts, ghouls, and monsters can be traced back to the early days of the medium.
Making fright fare for younger viewers is necessary. As children, our imaginations were more active and our curiosity was strong. We wanted to learn about the world, but as we began to discover that life wasn’t all teddy bears and candy bars, watching horror-tinged cartoons gave us a safe space to explore our inner fears. Robert A. Heinlein's seminal sci-fi novel Starship Troopers first came to life on the big screen nearly 20 years ago, and now the bugs are coming back in Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars, a new CG sequel that features franchise favorites Casper Van Dien and Dina Meyer, who return to voice Johnny Rico and Dizzy Flores, respectively.

Here’s a thought to make some of you out there feel nice and young: Starship Troopers is 20 years old this year. Paul Verhoeven’s loose adaptation of Robert Heinlein’s sci-fi novel remains some piece of work too, although the less said about the straight-to-dvd live actions sequels the better. However, the animated follow-ups have been far more on the money, and another is arriving later this year.
Starship Troopers: Traitor Of Mars will see Casper Van Dien and Dina Meyer reprising – in voice form at least – their roles from the first movie. Ed Neumeier is back to pen the screenplay, as well. The film will see Johnny Rico demoted, and sent off to a small station on Mars. In the meantime, the Federation is still bug hunting,...

Twenty years after the director Paul Verhoeven's original Starship Troopers film was released, fans will be getting an animated sequel! It's called Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars and it will even feature actors from the cast of the original film.
Casper Van Dien will reprise his role as Johnny Rico and Dina Meyer will be back as Dizzy Flores in the CG animated film. They will be joined by stand-up comedian and actor DeRay Davis. Those are the only cast members we've learned about so far.
One of the cooler things about this project is that the script was written by Ed Neumeier, who wrote the original Starship Troopers film as well as Verhoeven's Robocop. According to THR:
The movie sees Rico demoted and relocated to a satellite station on Mars, while the Federation moves to attack the home planet of the bugs — but Mars just so happens...

Columbia Pictures is in the process of rebooting the 1997 sci-fi action film Starship Troopers, and they've hired Mark Swift and Damian Shannon to write it. This is the writing team behind the script for Dwayne Johnson's upcoming Baywatch movie. Neal H. Moritz, the producer behind the Fast and Furious franchise, is also attached to help develop it.
The studio is hoping to relaunch Starship Troopers as a franchise that would spark several new films. This new film will not be a remake of the Paul Verhoeven movie. This will be a new reimagining of the source material written by Robert A. Heinlein. His book tells the story of a soldier named Johnny Rico as he moves up through the ranks, and it centers on humanity's fight for survival against a race of giant man-eating alien bugs.

In this morning's round-up, we have a Q&A with Casper Van Dien from the supernatural horror film, June. Also: details on Dracula's prop auction, XLrator Media's 24 Hour Rental, a video tribute to Friday the 13th Part VIII called "Voorhees Stomp", a new poster for The Hexecutioners, and release details for Krampus: The Reckoning.
Casper Van Dien Q&A: "June tells the story of nine-year-old June (Brice) who has been shuffled in and out of foster homes for years. And though she tries to be good, no matter where she goes, a trail of chaos and terror seems to follow. It’s only when June is sent to live with a new couple, Lily (Pratt) and Dave (Van Dien), that it looks as if things might finally work out. Except this innocent child with the face of an angel is possessed by an ancient, malevolent entity that has hijacked her soul.

I've always found it interesting that back in the late '70s, '80s, and '90s, there were some R-rated movies that were being marketed to kids. It’s really strange to think about now because of how much Hollywood has changed over the years, and that's not really socially acceptable anymore. Hell, these day parents are pissed off about collectible adult toys for TV shows like Breaking Bad. Back in the day though, there were several R-rated movies that spawned kids toys and amusing cartoon series. A lot of these films were considered hard-r movies as well, full of crazy violence, bad words, nudity, and sex. These were movies that kids shouldn’t have been watching, but the companies decided to include kids in their target market anyway, which turned out to be pretty freakin’ cool for those of us who got to experience it. We don’t...

BioWare has done some incredible things with the Star Wars license. While there have been some stumbles with The Old Republic, it's hard to deny how good the company is at crafting memorable Sci-Fi/Fantasy stories in general (just look at the Mass Effect and Dragon Age franchises). With another Star Wars game apparently in the works from them, I got to thinking about which other Sci-Fi/Fantasy franchises could use a great game from the Bioware team.
I'm a sucker for fun stories and epic tales; two things BioWare seems to specialize in. Since they've done so well with one of the biggest science fiction properties around, Star Wars, I'm sure they're more than able to handle other much beloved sci-fi and fantasy franchise. There are several worthy tales out there which haven't received the video game attention they deserve, or simply didn't get good games, so perhaps BioWare...

‘Battle’s the great redeemer. A fiery crucible in which the only true heroes are forged’
As Tom Cruise finds out in Doug Liman’s excellent blockbuster, it’s a lot easier to discover your inner warrior - and prove right the above maxim from Bill Paxton’s Sgt Farrell– when you get to have several cracks at the battle itself.
Based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s ‘light novel’ All You Need Is Kill (a better title, really), Edge of Tomorrow takes what might seem a glib ‘Groundhog Day meets Starship Troopers’ elevator pitch and produces a tremendously enjoyable action adventure. Liman’s helped by a charismatic and nuanced leading turn from Cruise, a kickass Emily Blunt and a script from Jez and John-Henry Butterworth that’s as amusing as it is ingenious.
Cruise plays Major William Cage, a military PR man who’s hoodwinked into participating in a death-or-glory offensive...
