Yg Entertainment, the firm behind K-pop sensation Blackpink, has appointed Yang Min-seok as its new, sole CEO. The younger brother of company founder Yang Hyun-sun, he was previously joint CEO with Hwang Bo-kyun.
The announcement was made shortly after Yg’s annual shareholder meeting that closed the books on a year in which revenues climbed 65% to $430 million.
The firm, which recently denied that it had paid $30 million to retain its position with Blackpink (but saw the girl group’s individual members sign personal representation contracts with other agencies) is busily launching BabyMonster, another all-female act that is seen in some circles as a successor to Blackpink.
BabyMonster, which was formed late last year through reality TV show “Last Evaluation 2023,” is a seven part group with members from Korea, Thailand and Japan. The group launched singles last year and in February. But Yg is now describing mini-album and new single “Sheesh,...

“Indian Matchmaking” had become a phenomenon since its first season was released in the year 2020, amidst the long lockdown when people had nothing better to do. All of us indulged in the show just like any other dating show, from the television days to the dating shows on the Ott platforms. The only difference here is that the show caters to only the arranged marriage setup, which is a common phenomenon not just in India but among the Indian diaspora living across the world. It was all about Seema Taparia, the most renowned matchmaker in the country, and her belief in arranged marriage, which made her a successful businesswoman in the field of matchmaking.
When the world is filled with dating applications where people are struggling to find a match for themselves that will stick with them forever, Seema Taparia guarantees success in her way of finding your perfect partner.

The Melbourne Film Festival will return to cinemas after two turbulent years caused by Covid-related disruptions – the city endured one of the world’s longest pandemic lockdowns – and will run Aug 4-21, 2022. It will open with powerful Australian-u.K.-Serbian-made first film “Of An Age,” by renown shorts director Goran Stolevski. Festival organizers pitch it as “a heart-meltingly tender, quintessentially Melbourne queer coming-of-age tale that will make you swoon from beginning to end.” The Mff is scheduled to close with another Aussie title, documentary “Clean.” Directed by Lachlan McLeod, it examines how so-called trauma cleaner Sandra Pankhurst responded to an unseen world with radical kindness. The festival has also teased some of the titles that it will program between the gala bookend events. They include: Kamila Andini’s “Yuni”; Ari Folman’s “Where Is Anne Frank”; John Hughes and Tom Zubrycki’s “Senses of Cinema”; Ulrich Seidl’s...
