Lionsgate has signed new deals and extended output agreements with six media companies in Europe and Asia for the distribution of its Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment label films.
The studio made the announcement on Tuesday, the opening day of the Cannes Film Festival. Lionsgate makes extensive use of output deals as a risk-mitigation strategy in order to limit its exposure on movies that underperform.

In a handful of new deals, Eagle Films will distribute Lionsgate films in the Middle East and Jaguar Films will handle Summit titles in the territory, while Lionsgate fare will go through Encore Films and Golden Village in Singapore.

Le Pacte has picked up French rights to Sean Baker’s forthcoming The Florida Project.
The deal was negotiated between international sales agent Protagonist Pictures’ Jennifer Fattell and Jean Labadie and Thomas Pibarot of Le Pacte.

UK sales outfit Protagonist Pictures has promoted three executives.
Within the sales team, which is headed up by Vanessa Saal, Jennifer Fattell has been promoted to international sales director, with responsibility for France, Canada, Benelux, Scandinavia, Switzerland, Airlines, Middle East, Turkey, South Africa, Greece and Portugal, and co-handling Latin America.
George Hamilton has become international sales manager, responsible for Australia, Cis, Ee, Asia (excluding Japan), and co-repping the UK.
Saal commented: “Jennifer and George have both successfully taken on increasing responsibilities and have been instrumental to the sales team and Protagonist during this period of growth. These promotions are very-well deserved.”

French distributor Arp has acquired Michael O’Shea’s drama-horror The Transfiguration from Protagonist Pictures, a week before its world premiere at Cannes in Un Certain Regard.
The film stars newcomer Eric Ruffin alongside Chloe Levine, who made her film debut in Hilary Brougher thriller Innocence (2014) and has been cast in the next season of Netflix’s House Of Cards.
Producer is Susan Leber, whose credits include Sundance winner Down To The Bone directed by Debra Granik and Ti West’s first feature The Roost. She was also supervising producer on Gillian Robespierre’s comedy hit Obvious Child.

Screen started highlighting the Future Leaders in our Cannes issue two years ago, when we spotlighted emerging sales and acquisitions executives. Last year, we looked at the rising producers. For 2014, we’re back spotlighting sales and distribution; it’s a sign of the industry’s vitality that there were hundreds of possible candidates that have proven themselves as ‘ones to watch’ since our previous look two years ago.
For this class of Future Leaders, we tried to introduce executives at a stage when they may be slightly less well known to the wider industry; they are not totally new to the sector and do have decision-making power, but are not yet in the top positions. So these are not generally the vice-presidents or CEOs unless they have split off into running their own boutique companies...
