Characters are more often associated with their iconographies, which provide them with an enduring legacy through the ages. When readers think of Sherlock Holmes, the pipe and the iconic hat immediately come to mind; the bat insignia is a cue to Gotham’s caped crusader; and similarly, the mention of Godzilla always evokes the mental image of the atomic monster unleashing its fierce, nuclear-powered breath—akin to the fire-breathing dragons of ancient mythology.
Atomic Breath has been an integral part of the big G’s identity since the character’s first appearance and has been showcased in almost all of Toho Studio’s 30+ cinematic ventures involving Godzilla. Irrespective of the tone and treatment of the movie, whether it’s the campy fun of the Showa era or the grounded, dark approach of the present Reiwa era, makers have always made sure that each version of Godzilla asserts their individuality through their respective atomic breath.

While multiple Korean TV series have connected with global audiences, Japan’s production committees, terrestrial broadcasters and talent agencies have kept their TV industry tightly focused on a local market.
Anime and variety have long remained the Japanese TV industry’s best-known exports, while the premium end of the spectrum has largely escaped Japanese producers. That is despite multinational shows like Hulu’s “Shogun,” HBO’s “Tokyo Vice” and Netflix’s “House of Ninjas” underscoring the potentially substantial overseas interest in Japan-set live-action drama.
“House of the Owl,” set to begin airing on Disney+ and Hulu from next week, is both an outlier and a potential mold breaker.
A crime thriller about a behind-the-scenes political fixer and his chafing rivalry with his son, “House of the Owl” was conceived as a five-season ride along the lines of “House of Cards” or “Succession.” But overcoming the obstacles on the way to...

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is the 38th film in the Godzilla franchise and the 13th in the King Kong franchise. Throughout the years, the monsters have become some of the biggest stars in Hollywood — both literally and figuratively.
Dan Stevens, who joins Rebecca Hall and Brian Tyree Henry as leads in the film, confirmed the monsters’ star power at the Los Angeles premiere on Monday, joking he approached the CGI creatures “much like standing opposite any great movie star, really. There’s a little bit of trepidation, there’s some nerves — are they going to be mean? Do they live up to their reputation?”
He reassured, though, that “they were both lovely. Kong and I developed a pretty special bond, got pretty intimate with Kong in certain scenes, and there’s a lot of trust involved.”

“Only ignorant fools say ‘ninja.’” So claims Taki, the mysterious matron of the Tawara family, as she sternly corrects her grandson in the old ways. Played by veteran actress Nobuko Miyamoto, there’s much more to Grandma Taki than meets the eye. Such is the way of the world in Netflix’s new series, House of Ninjas. The proper term is “shinobi.” It’s what was used historically.
House of Ninjas is a new action dramedy that follows a modern-day shinobi family who has forsaken the lethal trade of their ancestors for a “normal” life. And like in every dramedy, the Tawaras are comically and tragically dysfunctional. The family patriarch, Soichi (Yosuke Eguchi) struggles to maintain a low-key profile whilst his wife Yoko (Tae Kimura) and daughter Nagi (Aju Makita) succumb to their old devious habits, stealing stuff just for the rush. Their thievery goes from grocery store shoplifting to museum art object theft.

Based on how similar K-dramas are every year, one could imagine that there’s a mandate handed out at the beginning of each year that everyone should follow. What else can explain the similarities between them? Take, for example, all the shows in the last year that have used the traditional fireworks scene. Or all the shows that have taken their protagonists to Thailand? Obviously, I’m a conspiracy theorist; however, it is a bit tedious to see the same thing happen over and over again, even if it includes a different pair of faces. While My Demon started off a little bit unique (as unique as it can get with a demon involved), it’s now simmered down to the same old thing we’ve seen 100 times. I suppose if you’ve got two of the hottest stars on your show, anything works, right? Personally, I don’t think so; however,...

“Youngwoo Shin is a deadbeat in real life, working odd jobs to barely pay off his loans. Even his family has written him off as a hopeless video game addict. But when he logs in to the massively popular VR game Satisfy, Youngwoo becomes Grid the Warrior…who is also painfully mediocre. Everything changes when he stumbles across a tome containing the lost knowledge of a legendary blacksmith. The catch is, using it resets all his levels! In order to survive after being forced back to square one, Grid will need to hone his skills and gather reliable allies…or not! Who needs all that when you're decked out in god-tier items?!” (Ize Press)

It’s been a massive day for Kaiju TV series. At New York Comic Con today, Crunchyroll unleashed a new trailer to accompany the announcement that new anime series “Kaiju No. 8” will head to its streaming service in Spring 2024, subtitled and dubbed, exclusively in more than 200 countries and territories, simulcast weekly after its broadcast in Japan.
The new trailer below brings big monster mayhem and gore, showcasing the perils of living in a world filled with giant monsters.
The highly anticipated anime series, based on the manga, is centered around “a group of characters living in a world where giant monsters (or kaiju) attack humanity and the creatures’ destructive aftermath. Kaiju is a Japanese term that is commonly associated with television, movies, and books involving giant monsters (usually depicted attacking major cities and battling the military or other monsters), which has been a science fiction mainstay in the media for decades.

While "Star Wars" animation fans like myself will probably always be haunted wondering what might have been had "Ahsoka" been the animated "Star Wars Rebels" sequel series we always longed for, the first season of the live-action continuation we got has left the story of Ahsoka Tano in a decidedly interesting place. Picking things up from "The Mandalorian," the show has Anakin Skywalker's former Padawan (Rosario Dawson) reunite with her estranged pupil, Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), to continue their hunt for Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen), in the hopes of both preventing him returning to reunite the scattered remnants of the Galactic Empire and recovering their lost friend Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi). Their subsequent adventure takes them to a completely different galaxy far, far away, bringing the pair face-to-face with fallen Jedi, Dathomirian witches, a graveyard of purrgil or "star whale" bones, and even zombie troopers.

"Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" is coming to theaters in December, providing us one last dive into the DC Extended Universe. Considering "Shazam! Fury of the Gods," "The Flash," and "Blue Beetle" failed to make a dent in the box office, it's up to Arthur Curry to save this year's slate of DC Comics movies. Considering the first "Aquaman" movie was a massive hit, there's plenty of anticipation for the follow-up from director James Wan, especially after that first trailer arrived.
Of course, the release of a new superhero blockbuster sequel wouldn't be complete without some cool new collectibles. Joining the roster of "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" action figures from McFarlane Toys, we've got the obligatory line of Funko POPs, giving us several different versions of Jason Momoa as Aquaman, as well as the film's supporting characters. This post contains spoilers for the Ahsoka season finale, which is now streaming on Disney+.
The Ahsoka finale, “The Jedi, the Witch, and the Warlord,” invites many questions. What exactly is the deal with the zombie Night Troopers? Why would a witch need a sword? What has been motivating ex-Jedi Baylan Skoll? Why does Grand Admiral Thrawn look so much like Elon Musk, when actor Lars Mikkelsen in real life does not resemble the owner of the social media network formerly known as Twitter?
Most importantly, though, is this: Exactly...

Ahsoka Episode 8
“The Jedi, the Witch, and the Warlord” caps off Ahsoka with an ending that, when compared to the powerful cliffhanger in Rebels that set all of these events in motion, pales in comparison. The episode itself has its highlights as well as quite a few lows, but when you look at the bigger picture that was painted over the course of the eight chapters, this grand finale sadly doesn’t feel all that grand, and it certainly doesn’t reach the great heights of more thrilling, poignant episodes like “Shadow Warrior” and “Far Far Away.”
The heroes are left in precarious positions by episode’s end: Ahsoka, Sabine, and Huyang are stranded on Peridea, and Ezra has returned home to reunite with Hera and Chopper (where’s Zeb?!) and deliver the worst news ever: Thrawn is on his way back to...

The first season of “Ahsoka” wrapped on Tuesday night with enough cliffhangers for another season … and/or a “Star Wars” movie (more on that later).
At the end of Episode 7, Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) had finally reunited with Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) on Peridea. While Sabine’s primary goal was to reunite with Ezra, Ahsoka remained focused on stopping Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) from returning from exile.
Read of if you want to find out what happened in the Season 1 finale of “Ahsoka” and where the characters could possibly go from here.
Spoiler alert: This post contains plot points from the season finale of “Ahsoka.” Proceed with caution.
For finding Thrawn (and consequently the Great Mothers), Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto) was given a reward. The Great Mothers empowered the Nightsister and forged a Blade of Talzin for her — a sword that glows green with mystical energy.

Disney’s Ahsoka premiered its seventh episode today, and it showcases a reunion between two of the fan-favorite characters in the show. The previous episode witnessed Sabine Wren finally meeting Ezra Bridgers, years after his disappearance, but she was still worried about Ahsoka. Moreover, Thrawn had sent his scouts Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati on the lookout for the Jedi and had instructed them to eliminate both when the chance arose. This episode ties up a lot of loose ends, but it leaves a lot more questions unanswered.

Ahsoka‘s penultimate episode opens with Ahsoka training with her Lightsaber as a hologram of her master, Anakin Skywalker, who gives her important tips. Ahsoka Episode 7
“Dreams and Madness,” Ahsoka season 1’s penultimate episode, looks great on paper but falls short in execution. We get to spend more time with Ezra and Sabine, we get to see Thrawn exert his tactical dominance from his war room on Peridea, there’s a frantic space chase inside a Purrgil graveyard, and we’re even treated to a lengthy cameo by C-3Po. So why does the episode fall a little flat?
It’s not that there’s one big issue that tanks the entire episode. Rather, it’s an accumulation of little creative decisions that don’t hit the mark. Take C-3Po saving Hera and Teva’s asses in the courtroom, for example. It’s fun to see him put Senator Xiono in his place and clear Hera’s name on Leia’s behalf, but as a courtroom scene,...

With just two episodes left of “Ahsoka” on Disney+, there are many plot threads that hopefully will be addressed.
With most of the major characters, including Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), either at or headed to (or trying to leave) the planet Peridea as of Episode 6, there will surely be some epic fights to come.
In Episode 6, viewers learned that Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) was thriving despite being exiled to the distant galaxy, to which his follower Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto) was able to map a route.
Peridea also happens to be where purrgil, or star whales, migrate to using an organic form of hyperdrive. It is also the homeworld of the Nightsisters or Dathomiri, a faction of witches who use powerful magic and have aligned themselves with Thrawn.

Episode 6 finally saw these characters return as Lady Morgan Elsbeth, Baylan Skoll, Shin Hati, and Sabine Wren arrive at Peridea, the ancestral home of the Nightsisters and the planet that Thrawn and Ezra have been calling home for the last 10 years.

“Something calls to me. Can’t you hear it? Something stirs here. Can’t you see it?” That line, uttered by the late actor Ray Stevenson in “Ahsoka” episode six, set the minds of “Star Wars” fans racing. Viewers have long been clued in to the fact that Stevenson’s character Baylan Skoll has his own secret agenda that doesn’t involve his tenuous allies Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto) or Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen). Now that Baylan has reached Peridia, a mysterious planet in a distant galaxy, his secret plan might just be the biggest bombshell that the Disney+ series will drop on fans.
Baylan’s ambitions came into sharper focus this episode during a short conversation between the Force-user and his apprentice Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno). After she asks her master if he misses the fallen Jedi order, he scoffs. “I miss the idea of it, but not the truth,...

Ahsoka has wasted no time introducing fans to all kinds of new lore and corners of the Star Wars universe. From bringing Grand Admiral Thrawn to live action for the first time to an extragalactic adventure to the homeworld of the Nightsisters, Ahsoka is taking us where no other live action Star Wars project has gone before.
Then there’s the show’s surprising new take on Imperial stormtroopers, specifically the gold-accented Night Troopers serving Lars Mikkelsen’s Thrawn on Peridia. Presumably, these are the same troopers who were stationed in Thrawn’s fleet when Ezra had them all zapped by purrgil to parts unknown at the end of Rebels, and it’s clear they’ve fallen on some hard times in the decade since.

The sixth episode of Disney’s Ahsoka picks up the much-needed pace after a rather dull fifth episode. In the previous episode, Ahsoka was revived by Hera after she met and fought her master Anakin Skywalker in the World Between Worlds, and then began her journey to Sabine’s location inside the mouth of a Purrgill, a space whale. Accompanying her is her trusted friend, Huyang. Audience were left to wonder, what became of Sabine, who left with Baylan Skoll after being promised to be reunited with Ezra Bridger?
Spoilers Ahead
What do Ahsoka and Huyang talk about?
The sixth episode opens with Ahsoka and Huyang comfortably sitting in their ship while a giant Purrgill whale glides through space to take them to a new destiny. Ahsoka shares with Huyang something she’d kept secret while conversing with Hera; she says that in her vision, Ahsoka saw Sabine go off with Baylan willingly.

This post contains spoilers for "Ahsoka" episode 6, "Far, Far Away."
In "Ahsoka," Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson) made a strong first impression when he slaughtered the crew of a New Republic vessel after posing as a Jedi with his disciple, Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno). This is not a case of basic impersonation, as Baylan used to be a Jedi while the Jedi Order thrived, and became disillusioned after surviving The Purge, turning into a mercenary-for-hire in later years. While Baylan and Shin are not Jedi, it is tricky to categorize them as Sith, especially after today's episode, where the former Jedi talks about his grand plan to end cyclical violence in the galaxy. While speaking about the ebb and flow of power, and the rise and fall of fascistic empires, Baylan expresses his desire to be something more by creating a galaxy devoid of this violent ouroboros.

Bu in Ahsoka’s sixth episode, the nostalgically titled “Far Far Away,” fans finally get to feast their eyes on the reunions they’ve been dreaming about for so long. There was a lot riding on this long-awaited moment in showrunner Dave Filoni’s epic saga, and in most respects it delivers, though one big moment doesn’t feel as, well, big as it should have.
We get to spend a little time with Ahsoka and Huyang to open the episode, and it’s a sweet, fun way to transition from the end of the last episode into this one. As they careen across the galaxy at lightspeed thanks to their Purrgil pals, they...

This week “America’s Got Talent” season 18 continued the second stage of the competition, known as “Qualifiers.” In this round, 55 acts are divided into five groups for five weeks of performances, all in the hopes of advancing to The Finals. While series judges Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel are still around to offer their support and critique of the acts, the power is out of their hands and rests all in America’s vote. Only two acts from each of the five qualifying groups will win over America and earn a spot in the “AGT” finale.
In “Qualifiers 1” on August 22, Sofia’s Golden Buzzer singer Lavender Darcangelo and dog act Adrian Stoica & Hurricane were the two acts that America sent through to “The Finals.”
Tuesday’s “Qualifiers 2” featured encore performances by two Golden Buzzer acts: French dance group Murmuration selected by Howie and music act Chioma & The...

In the 15 years since Ahsoka Tano was first introduced in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, she has appeared in many other shows like Star Wars: Rebels, The Mandalorian, and most recently The Book of Boba Fett. Her wit, Force-wielding skills, and her desire to do good for the Galaxy even after leaving the Jedi Order have made her a fan-favorite character with fans eager to see her in a solo series.
Because Ahsoka has been involved in so many eras throughout Star Wars history from The Clone Wars to the New Republic, there are plenty of characters, both familiar and otherwise, that we can expect to see throughout the series. Ahsoka will feature the return of several Rebels and Clone Wars characters, as well as the introduction of new characters we haven’t yet seen in canon before.

What Does Ahsoka Teach Sabine?
Ahsoka walks into one of the rooms inside the ship they’re traveling in to find Sabine training with the human-turned-droid, Huyang. This Star Wars: Ahsoka review contains spoilers.
Ahsoka Episode 3
Ahsoka’s third episode largely focuses on its climactic multi-stage starfighter battle, which is eye-poppingly entertaining and worth watching the episode for alone. But there are actually several notable interpersonal moments that dovetail nicely with the two-episode premiere and set up what’s yet to come.
Rosario Dawson and Natasha Liu Bordizzo continue to click as Ahsoka and once-again Padawan Sabine, playing naturally off of one another and conveying that their characters are on good terms but still very much readjusting to the master-apprentice dynamic. Huyang adds a bit of humorously toxic pragmatism to the dynamic, which sets Sabine up as a compelling underdog and makes Ahsoka’s belief in her friend and student mean that much more.
The sparring session between the three of them is a cool throwback to Luke and Obi-Wan, and it’s nice to see practical-effects Huyang filmed so…...
