- He was awarded the C.M. (Member of the Order of Canada) on November 15, 2000 and invested on: May 31, 2001 by the Canadian Governor General in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. He is Canada's pre-eminent river conservationist. He founded and continues to coordinate British Columbia Rivers Day, a project attracting some 45,000 volunteers who clean up waterways throughout the province. Tremendously active with the British Columbia Heritage River Program, he was the first non-government appointee to the national Canadian Heritage River Board. In addition, he has helped coordinate major conferences in his province for the last 25 years and has lent his expertise to fledgling conservation organizations around the world.

- World Rivers Day, which Angelo founded in 2005, is now embraced by millions of people in close to 100 countries making it one of the biggest environmental celebrations on the planet.
- He has been awarded Honorary Doctorates for his river conservation efforts both locally and globally from institutions such as Simon Fraser University in British Columbia to Trent University in Ontario, Canada.
