Doctor Who fans are a talented bunch, eh?
For some Whovians, just sitting back and watching the BBC sci-fi series is not enough - they want to take part, to create - and many have taken to YouTube to present their own unique take on Who, using animation, CGI effects and whizzy editing.
Take a look at some of the very finest fan edits available online - there are Sherlock crossovers, Buffy mash-ups and more!
1. Dematerialisation!
The latest effort from one John Smith on YouTube, this spectacular animation provides a new twist on the familiar concept of the Tardis dematerialising and reappearing somewhere new - it's a breathtaking bit of work, as the Doctor's craft tears dramatically through the time-space vortex.
"Since the Tardis' dematerialisation effect has remained largely unchanged for the past fifty years, I thought it might be interesting to try out a new approach," reads the video description.

See, I told you he was good.
Peter Capaldi is off and flying in the role he’s been practicing for since he was four years old. The Paternoster gang is here to cushion the blow of the wild turns in tone and character, there’s a well-hidden piece of chalk, and a dinosaur explodes.
Mind your handles, watch the spoilers and take a…
Deep Breath
By Steven Moffat
Directed by Ben Wheatley
So, there’s this dinosaur in Victorian London. The Paternoster Gang appear to investigate, and are only slightly surprised to learn that The Doctor is involved, by dint of watching said dinosaur cough the Tardis up like Elizabeth Taylor hocking up a chicken bone. The Doctor has regenerated, and as is traditional after sais process, his mental faculties, including the ability to pilot his time capsule, are a bit dodgy. He exits both the ship and consciousness in rapid succession,...

There’s an applause-worthy moment in The Five(-ish) Doctors Reboot where Sylvester McCoy pauses the action and asks fellow former Doctor Peter Davison, “Why are we doing this?” At first, Davison seems perplexed. Then, he realizes the obvious answer and resolutely states, “For the fans!” Well, now that seems to have gone both ways, as the

Steven Moffat has spoken about the new Doctor Who title sequence, which was inspired by a fan's online creation.
The new-look opening credits will debut at the beginning of tomorrow night's (August 23) series eight premiere 'Deep Breath'.
Speaking to TV Guide, Moffat said that he was "proud" of the creative response that fans have to Doctor Who, which he added is "unique" to the sci-fi series.
He said: "The most important thing is that [there is] an extraordinary creative response to Doctor Who that is almost unique to Doctor Who, and that's all we should look at.
"It has turned people into actors, it has turned people into writers, it has turned people into scientists. That's an extraordinary thing. And that title sequence which I'm so proud of is a result.
"That's online Doctor Who. That's the real part of it, that's the real story," he concluded.

The British press are reporting that "Doctor Who" companion Jenna-Louise Coleman is set to leave the hit BBC show.
The 28-year-old actress is reportedly scheduled to exit the show during this year's Christmas special according to The Mirror. If she does leave, her Clara Oswald character will ultimately have appeared in just twelve Matt Smith-led and thirteen Peter Capaldi-led episodes, though she was first announced in the role back in March 2012.
A source tells the paper: "The conversations about Jenna's exit have started, and a plan is in place which is being ironed out. By the time she leaves she will be one of the longest-standing companions ever. She has been absolutely brilliant in the role, but everyone agrees it is a part that should change after a period. "
They go on to say: "It was very much a mutual decision. It's important to keep the series moving and fast-paced,...

The title sequence for Doctor Who's new series has been inspired by a fan-made clip on YouTube.
Billy Hanshaw, a motion graphics designer from Leeds, put together his own version of a title sequence for the new Peter Capaldi-starring series which received over 700,000 views and eventually found its way to Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat.
Watch the original fan-made sequence below:
Moffat said (via Doctor Who News): "Hanshaw created this title sequence, put it up on YouTube. I happened to cross it, and it was the only new title idea I'd seen since 1963.
"We got in touch with him, and said, okay, we're going to do that one."
The new Doctor Who title sequence inspired by Hanshaw's creation will be unveiled on Saturday, August 23, when series eight opener 'Deep Breath' airs at 7.50pm on BBC One.

Or so claims Bleeding Cool.
Apparently the credits included in the leaked Doctor Who scripts (you’ve heard about those, yes? More on those later) say the new credits are by “BBC Wales Graphics based on original idea by Billy Hanshaw”.
Billy Hanshaw posted these credits some months back, which caused many clothes to become stained.
If this is true, it’s an amazingly cool thing for the BBC to admit that a fan inspired them (well, he’s a professional in media, but he is a Dw fan), and more importantly, to provide credit.
It’s not the first time that’s happened in the new series. A good bit of the plot of Rise of the Cybermen / The Age of Steel came from a Big Finish Audio adventure, “Spare Parts” by Marc Platt. Showrunner Russell T Davies got Platt a writer’s fee, and he received a “Thanks to” credit in the episode.
