Give me a break! Speed Dating The film debuts Saturday, December 10, 2022, on YouTube. The horrors of dating are vividly brought to life in the opening scenes of Jean-Paul Ly's short film. Jimmy has just lost his brother and is taking his ashes to the coast to scatter them in the ocean. As bad as that is, things promptly get worse when a stop at a convenience store puts him in the middle of what seems to be a very well-armed robbery. Only the cashier, her name is Natasha takes out the robbers with a shotgun and a throwing knife before grabbing her backpack and bolting.
But Jimmy’s bad day is far from over as he finds Natasha has stowed away in his vehicle and a couple of big black SUVs full of goons are on their trail. He’s not sure whether to be relieved or terrified when she easily dispatches them.

It hasn’t taken long for writer/director Ross Boyask to follow up 2018’s Vengeance (aka I Am Vengeance) with a sequel, probably because that film struck a massive chord with genre fans across the globe – respecting the action genre’s vast, and may I say beloved, past, whilst delivering a modern take on the traditional Dtv action film; and, of course, featuring Stu Bennett in a compelling lead role. I’m guessing that the fact Bennett was on UK screens as part of World of Sport wrestling And had a huge name presence thanks to his former WWE career didn’t hurt either.

Witnessing the continued growth of the many talented in the stunt and screenfighting community has certainly proven rewarding. Martial arts exponent, actor Jean-Paul Ly (Now You See Me 2, Lucy, Doctor Strange) is especially an example given some of his recent efforts, including shortfilms like Colin Emmerson's 007-inspired Sapphire and Donnie Yen-style action nod, Dead End, the latter which I posted as my first entry here at ScreenAnarchy earlier this year. I personally pride myself on following projects like these as they've now led us to what now lies ahead for Ly and fellow actor and martial artist, Hanuman star Dara Our. Their new pairing for Hanuman helmer Jimmy Henderson's latest thrilling action follow-up, Jailbreak, is coming full speed ahead with its local buzz in...

Jean-Paul Ly And Law Plancel Echo Hong Kong Action Greatness In Colin Emerson's 2015 Short, Dead End
The last three years have proven very exciting for me in covering independent action cinema. The internet is full of gems from many directors of shortfilms and once such person would be filmmaker Colin Emerson who has done at least two pieces last year that I know of with UK-based stunt and screenfighting talents, Jean-Paul Ly (Lucy, Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist) and Law Plancel (Green Street Hooligans: Underground, Ben-Hur). The two launched their own independent film group under their Jp/LP Action Design banner with the Emerson's Fall 2015 shortfilm, Dead End, the story of two friends in a deal that ultimately goes South, exposing one of them as an undercover cop. The shortfilm itself isn't a big-scale piece, but the drama is doable enough to...
