Instead, his first directorial effort is a revenge thriller called Double Booked, which he’ll also be starring in… and Deadline reports that he has chosen a great supporting cast to surround himself with. It looks as though director Todd Phillips has officially finished Joker: Folie a Deux, with the MPAA officially granting it an R-rating for “some strong violence, language throughout, some sexuality, and brief full nudity.” On the latter, it looks like Joker is about to show us the full monty, doesn’t it? At any rate, the R-rating isn’t a surprise, as that’s what the first film got, and I imagine a PG-13 sequel would have landed with a thud, as fans expect this to be as hardcore and uncompromising as the original.
Here’s the poster:
But, what else do we know about Joker: Folie a Deux? Plenty!

Ever since the movie started shooting in December 2022, Phillips has been generous as far as images teasing the look of his Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck and Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn go. Here’s a moody early pic...

Could Invincible be getting more seasons on Prime Video? According to Skybound Republic, an investment/crowdfunding site that allows fans to invest in the label, more episodes of the ultra-violent comic book action series are coming. In a since-deleted portion of the webpage, the site said Invincible Season 3 is in production, while the show had been renewed for Seasons 4 and 5. The webpage promotes a video game set in the Invincible universe, which fans can help fund. The crowdfunded project sits at $442,700 as of this posting, with 14 days to go in the campaign.
A portion of the mission statement for the campaign describes why making a video based on a licensed property causes some problems:
“Most crowdfunded video games are centered around indie games, and retail investors rarely have the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of Aaa game publishers. Skybound is developing a highly produced, high-octane blood bath that is anything but indie.

Joaquin Phoenix is set to return as the Joker in the upcoming Joker: Folie à Deux and fans are excited about the exciting direction that the film is going to take. The first Joker film back in 2019 showed the character’s mental deterioration amidst a crime-ridden Gotham City and the sequel is set to further explore this aspect along with Harley Quinn thrown in the mix.

Instead of the usual confrontation between Joker and Batman, the film focused on exploring Joker’s psychological deterioration in a crime-ridden Gotham City.

Warner Bros. Releases ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’ Trailer at CinemaCon: “We Cast Gaga Because She’s Magic”
Like it was expected the first trailer for ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’ was released on this year’s CinemaCon during Warner. Bros. presentation. The trailer features Arthur and Harley falling in love, both with worsening mental health conditions. They want to escape together and they engage in various musical performances along the way, so it’s pretty clear, and this is undeniable proof that the movie will indeed be a musical. You can check out the trailer below:
Todd Phillips explained that, even though prior reports were saying that ‘Joker’ was supposed to be a standalone movie, there were always talks to make a sequel:
Joaquin and I, while we were shooting the movie, always talked about making a sequel. We were never really serious and we also didn’t want to jinx the movie. When the movie became such a big success and Joaquin and I were talking through the pandemic…...

Warner Bros has released the first real look at Todd Philips’ sequel to 2019’s Joker – Joker: Folie A Deux.
When Joker released in 2019 it became one of the most talked about films of the year, not to mention one of the most commercially successful. Todd Philips’ take on the Clown Prince of Crime’s origin story featured an absorbing central performance from Joaquin Phoenix that would earn the actor an Oscar, adding another memorable cinematic interpretation of the popular character to what is becoming an increasingly long list.
Given that the first film grossed over a billion dollars at the global box office, Warner Bros was very keen to secure Philips and Phoenix for a sequel.

“Joker: Folie à Deux” drops its first trailer, with Joaquin Phoenix reprising his award-winning supervillain role. Lady Gaga will be playing Dr. Harleen Quinzel, aka Harley Quinn. Given Gaga’s New York roots, I expected her to have a Brooklyn accent, but she didn’t. Don’t expect her to sound like Arleen Sorkin, Tara Strong, or Margot Robbie’s version. Perhaps the accent isn’t present yet because she hasn’t fully transitioned into Harley; she’s still the psychiatric doctor. Zazie Beetz who is Joker’s love interest Sophie Dumond in the first film will also return. Are we going to have a love triangle? The first film finally gave Joaquin Phoenix his flowers because it won him Best Actor at the Oscars and other Award Winning bodies. It is hard to top the first movie so they decided to try something new with this sequel. It is going to be a musical.

The first trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux has arrived.
The follow-up to 2019’s Oscar-winning Joker marks the return of Joaquin Phoenix in the role of the Clown Prince of Crime, and introduces Lady Gaga as his love interest, Harley Quinn. Todd Phillips returned to the director’s chair for the sequel, and Zazie Beetz signed on to continue playing Sophie Dummond. While the first installment of Phillips’ take on the iconic character offered a grounded and gritty origin story in Gotham City, the sequel will be making some departures. The newly revealed trailer also confirms that Steve Coogan has a role in the film.
While the first installment of Phillips’ take on the iconic character offered a grounded and gritty origin story in Gotham City, the sequel will be making some departures. Update: The full trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux is here!
During the Warner Bros. panel at CinemaCon, Todd Phillips addressed the crowd, saying that the response to 2019’s Joker blew him away. People said the film was “dangerous.” He’s thankful the movie wasn’t scrapped and became a box-office smash.
When he was making the first movie, he and Joaquin always talked about making a sequel, but they didn’t want to jinx it. They talked a lot about the pandemic, and that’s how it was born. But it’s a very different kind of sequel.
Phillips was a producer on A Star Is Born, and he and the writer always wrote this with Lady Gaga in mind. As far as it becoming a musical, Phillips said he never thought of it as one, but he admits music is an essential element. He said he always described...

Ready to head back to the rotten, filthy, violent cesspool that is Gotham? "Joker 2," aka "Joker: Folie à Deux" is the sequel to the box office smash "Joker," which saw Joaquin Phoenix win an Oscar for his dark-n-gritty take on the Clown Prince of Crime. Director Todd Phillips drew inspiration from Martin Scorsese pics like "Taxi Driver" and "The King of Comedy" to tell a moody, violent, very R-rated take on Batman's arch nemesis. The end result broke box office records and earned both praise and scorn. Some critics were impressed with what Phillips had conjured up, while others were downright offended. Audiences, however, turned out in droves, resulting in a film that grossed over $1 billion (with a b).
While "Joker" felt like a pretty self-contained movie that didn't warrant or need a sequel, those box office returns were too good for Warner Bros. to ignore. Phoenix, for his part,...

Rob Liefeld, the comic book creator who has spent decades dreaming up fantastical stories, is ready to put his own story down on the printed page.
Liefeld will pen a memoir titled Robservations, which BenBella Publishing will release early next year. As a creator, Liefeld has had a front-row seat to a number of crucial moments in comics over the past 30 years and promises to offer a candid accounting of what went down.
The book chronicles Liefeld’s trajectory from the son of a preacher in Orange County, California, to becoming a rising star at Marvel in the early 1990s, when his work on titles such as X-Force set sales records. He then went on to help disrupt the industry as one of the founders of Image Comics, which launched in 1992 with the premise that comic book creators could retain the rights to their work. The first "Joker" film wasn't just a box office smash, it was also the first R-rated movie ever to gross over $1 billion. It became the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, beating out "Deadpool." Most Batman-adjacent films have been rated PG-13 (with the exception of the R-rated cuts of some Zack Snyder films), but director Todd Phillips gave audiences something dArK and tWiStEd — a hard-r-rated movie full of graphic violence and lots of scenes of Joaquin Phoenix smoking some cigs. With all that in mind, it was probably a safe assumption that "Joker 2," aka "Joker: Folie à Deux," would land itself an R-rating. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, as the saying goes.
Sure enough, the "Joker" sequel now has itself a rating — and it's an R. But it's the reasoning behind the R-rating that might cause some people to do a double take. According to Deadline,...

A Joker sequel was never technically in the cards. When director Todd Phillips made his anti-superhero origin film about the classic Batman villain — with Joaquin Phoenix in the title role — it was designed to be a standalone film. While Phillips acknowledged he was open to making a follow-up under the right circumstances, he went so far as to stress a month before the film’s October 2019 release: “We have no plans for a sequel … The movie’s not set up to [have] a sequel. We always pitched it as one movie,...

The movie ‘Joker’ (2019) was initially intended as a standalone film without sequels. However, Warner Bros. had plans for it to kickstart DC Black, a series of darker, more experimental films separate from the DC Extended Universe. Director Todd Phillips expressed interest in a sequel despite the original plan. By November 2019, the sequel was confirmed to be in development. In 2023, Gunn confirmed that ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ would not be part of the mainline Dcu; instead, it would be released under the ‘Elseworlds’ label, aligning with Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ franchise.
Early in development, it was revealed that ‘Joker 2’ would be a musical, which garnered mixed reactions from fans. Recently, it’s been reported that the movie will feature around 15 covers of well-known songs, including ‘That’s Entertainment’ from the 1953 musical ‘The Band Wagon’, famously associated with Judy Garland. There’s also talk of including original songs. Details about the composers and singers remain unknown,...

‘Joker’ (2019) was initially meant to be a standalone film without sequels. However, Warner Bros. planned for it to inaugurate DC Black, a series of darker, more experimental films separate from the DC Extended Universe. Director Todd Phillips expressed interest in a sequel despite the original intention. By November of 2019, the sequel was confirmed in development, and in 2023 Gunn confirmed that ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ will not be a part of the mainline Dcu, it will instead be released under ‘Elseworlds’ label, consistent with Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ franchise.
Early on in the development, we learned that ‘Joker 2’ would be a musical, which is a brave choice in my honest opinion, however, the fandom was extremely polarized by this announcement. Recently, we’ve learned that the movie will feature around 15 covers of well-known song, one said to be ‘That’s Entertainment’ from the 1953 musical ‘The Band Wagon’ famously associated with Judy Garland.

Claire Danes is reuniting with Homeland co-creator and showrunner Howard Gordon for the Netflix limited series The Beast in Me. Described as a mystery thriller, the limited series was created by Gabe Rotter (The X-Files) and has Gordon attached as showrunner and executive producer.
“Since the tragic death of her young son, acclaimed author Aggie Wiggs has receded from public life, unable to write, a ghost of her former self. But she finds an unlikely subject for a new book when the house next door is bought by Nile Sheldon, a famed and formidable real estate mogul who was once the prime suspect in his wife’s disappearance,” reads the Netflix synopsis. “At once horrified and fascinated by this man, Aggie finds herself compulsively hunting for the truth – chasing his demons while fleeing her own – in a game of cat and mouse that might turn deadly.”

Invincible Season 2 had a bunch of guest cameos from acclaimed voice actors, such as Peter Cullen, known for his work with Optimus Prime, being the voice of the coalition’s leader Thaddeus. There were also cameos from Shantel VanSanten (Becca from The Boys) as Anissa and Calista Flockhart (Cat Grant from CW’s Supergirl) as April Howsam. The show has another super-hero television alum in its ranks who is yet to make an appearance: Chloe Bennet (Quake from Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D).

Although he has made some memorable on-screen appearances, Ezra Miller’s career seems to be on a downward spiral, as the Hollywood actor has been fired from yet another major project. Namely, when the seventh episode of Amazon’s adaptation of Invincible aired, titled “I’m Not Going Anywhere”, the character of D.A. Sinclair appeared once again, but unlike season one, he was not voiced by Ezra Miller anymore. This came as a sort of surprise for everyone, as it had not been announced that Miller was fired from the series. The character is now voiced by Eric Bauza.
The second part of Invincible‘s second season premiered on March 14, 2024, after a several-month break and no information about Miller being recast had been released; Deadline has contacted Amazon, but no official statement has been released regarding this change in the voice cast of the series.

Eric Bauza, whose previous projects include X-Men ’97 and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, has assumed the role of D.A. Sinclair in Invincible season 2.
Although Prime Video has not provided a reason for the change, Ezra‘s recasting was likely the result of The Flash star’s legal troubles.
In 2022, Ezra was arrested in Hawaii following an incident at a karaoke bar.
