Donald Trump is reportedly annoyed with Arizona GOP Senate candidate Kari Lake’s frequent trips to his Mar-a-Lago resort and worries that she will be a liability for his re-election.
Trump is concerned that Lake will also blow the GOP’s chances of gaining a Senate seat in Arizona and drag him down in a critical state he needs to carry to win the presidency.
Melania Trump is also said to be upset with Lake’s frequent presence at Mar-a-Lago.
The Senate race to fill the seat being vacated by Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-Arizona) is one of the most closely watched during the 2024 election, and Lake is expected to face Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Arizona).
One of the problems Lake is facing is undoing the damage of her attack on John McCain’s followers, whom she degraded during her losing 2022 bid. She is also distrusted by GOP higher-ups in her state,...

On Sunday, Republican candidate for the Arizona U.S. senate seat Kari Lake delivered a fiery speech to her supporters in Lake Havasu City. In it, she urged them to prepare for the upcoming 2024 campaign – and “strap on a Glock.”
She addressed the crowd of Arizonans in Mohave County, “We need to send people to Washington, D.C., that the swamp does not want there… And I can think of a couple of people they don’t want there. First on that list is Donald J. Trump; second is Kari Lake.”
Lake highlighted her alignment with Donald Trump, stating she shares his desire to confront the forces that seek to “undermine the American people.” In recognition of the potential backlash she may face, Lake warned her supporters of the challenges that lie ahead in the next six months due to the intense nature of the campaign.

Maga Senate candidate Kari Lake once called an archaic Arizona law that bans abortion in the state a “great” law that she would be “incredibly thrilled” to have it go into effect.
Well on Tuesday it did, and Lake is now attempting to reverse course as Republicans continue to face electoral backlash in the aftermath of Roe v. Wade’s demise.
On Tuesday, the Arizona Supreme Court revived an 1864, Civil War-era law, that placed a near-total ban on abortion. The only exceptions to the law are narrowly defined allowances to...

Attorneys representing Arizona Republican Senate candidate Kari Lake will not contest the defamation case filed against her.
The lawsuit, initiated by Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer last year, accuses Lake defamed him after her defeat in the 2022 Arizona gubernatorial race, where she refused to concede and made allegations of election fraud.
The lawsuit alleges that Lake engaged in a systematic campaign to spread falsehoods about Richer’s actions as recorder, which led to harassment and numerous threats to his life. Among the unfounded claims made by Lake were accusations that Richer tampered with ballot boxes, injected 300,000 invalid votes and deliberately obfuscated the voting process.
In a recent court filing, Lake’s legal team did not contest the allegations put forth by Richer and instead requested an expedited hearing to determine the appropriate damages.
Richer viewed this development as an admission of guilt. In response, Lake dismissed the filing as a...

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.) announced on Tuesday that she will not seek reelection in 2024. The move clears the way for a showdown between Democrat Ruben Gallego and Republican Kari Lake in what will be one of the most consequential races this year.
In a video message released on social media, Sinema claimed that despite her successes and efforts to promote unity and understanding “Americans still chose to retreat farther into their partisan corners.”

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-az) said that she won’t run for reelection to the Senate.
“Because I choose civility, understanding, listening, working together to get stuff done, I will leave the Senate at the end of this year,” Sinema said in a video statement posted on her X/Twitter account today.
“Over my career, I have shown how government can work for everyday people,” she added, citing a host of bipartisan legislation.
She said that despite all of those accomplishments, “Americans still choose to retreat farther to their partisan corners. These solutions are considered failures, either because they are too much or not nearly enough. It’s all or nothing. The outcome, less important than beating the other guy.”
Sinema left the Democratic party at the end of 2022 and switched her affiliation to independent, as she faced a potential primary challenge. But she had withheld announcing her plans until now.

Republican Senate candidate Kari Lake recently headlined a campaign fundraiser hosted by Caryn Borland and Michael Borland, two supporters of the far-right political conspiracy theory QAnon.
On February 2, Lake attended this fundraiser with Caryn and Michael, which was held at their mansion in Prescott, Arizona.
Lake has been a supporter of Donald Trump‘s third presidential bid. She campaigned for him in Iowa before the caucuses took place. Some pundits even saw her as a potential vice president choice for Trump.
She launched her Arizona Senate bid in October 2023 but ended the year with a relatively small amount of money in the bank.
Lake raised $2 million in the roughly 11 weeks after having entered the race, but she immediately spent almost half that amount, meaning that she started 2024 with a little more than $1 million in the bank, as well as $308,000 in debt.
These numbers are low for a frontrunner in a major Senate race,...

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-Arizona) spent hundreds of thousands of dollars she raised on personal luxuries.
Sinema once criticized politicians for using campaign funds for personal expenses. In 2018, Sinema stated, “Arizonans are sick and tired of seeing Washington bureaucrats use their hard-earned tax dollars for personal gain.”
In 2024, Sinema spent $796,565 between October to December 2023. The money went to hotels, a new Chevrolet, concerts and first-class airplane tickets. Roughly $270,000 went to her security, including a new vehicle for a friend. Sinema has also spent money on cars in London and Paris despite no records of any reasoning for costs overseas.
Sinema will face stiff challenges if she decides to run for a second term. USA Today called out the irony of Sinema’s spending spree: “It is. . . idiotic for a supposed public servant to pamper herself on the public’s dime.”

Mark Lamb, a Trumpy, far-right county sheriff, has declared his candidacy to be Arizona Republicans’ nominee to replace Kyrsten Sinema in the Senate. He is the first big-name Republican to throw his hat — a broad-brimmed stetson — into the ring.
Lamb, 50, looks like a Playmobil sheriff brought to life. He’s the top lawman in Pinal County (think: exurban to Phoenix) and a lightning rod for controversy. Lamb is a big fan of militias, and even formed a civilian “posse” aimed at “suppressing lawlessness” in the wake of the murder of George Floyd in 2020.

China was much on Bill Maher’s mind in this week’s edition of HBO’s Real Time. His first mention came during the opening monologue, when he talked about people “freaking out” over the Chinese spy balloon over Montana.
“Now they know where we keep the cows,” Maher said. He noted the Chinese are denying that the balloon is being used to spy on us. “That’s what TikTok is for.”
Maher was against those who want to shoot it down, calling for calm. “We have to watch til it crashes and burns,” he said. “Like we’re doing with Kanye”
But Maher turned serious during his New Rules editorial, noting how the woke are trying to reinvent the very nature of human beings. He talked about the Red Guard movement in China, where people would attack those accused of not toeing the ideological line, making them wear dunce caps and publicly shaming them.

Democratic Arizona Representative Ruben Gallego has announced his bid to unseat incumbent Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, who announced her departure from the Democratic Party in December.
In English- and Spanish-language videos posted to his Twitter account, Gallego, who represents Arizona’s 7th congressional district, said that he is running for the Senate in 2024 to “win back” the American Dream for the people of Arizona. “There is no lobbyist for American families,” Gallego said, “if you’re more likely to be meeting with the powerful than the powerless, you’re doing this job incorrectly.

Chris Murphy has seen the photographs of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. The Connecticut senator is one of the few people who have. The public has been spared the images of the “unthinkable, grisly, horrific scenes,” he says, so shocking that the first responders who first entered the classrooms required as much counseling as the parents who lost their children.
“I sometimes wonder what would happen if the photos from inside these scenes became public,” Murphy mused on Wednesday morning. “Would people be moved to action if they saw...

In his last HBO Real Time before a short hiatus, Bill Maher had the unenviable task of trying to find laughs in the situation in Ukraine. Amazingly, he was able to pull it off within the boundaries of good taste, all while allowing his guests to run with the notion that more must be done in defense of the embattled country.
Noting that this episode of his show is likely the last his live audience will be forced to wear masks, Maher added that with Vladimir Putin, “eventually the mask comes off.” He claimed that the Russian leader’s pretext for invading Ukraine was that they were trying to acquire weaspons of mass destruction. “What kind of superpower makes up shit like that?” said Maher, with a nod toward the US invasion of Iraq.
Taking it down to terms we can all understand, Maher made a vivid analogy. “Russia is Kanye.

Newly released 2021 financial disclosures show something that, really, we should have expected: Centrist Democrat Kyrsten Sinema is raking in cash from Republican donors, including at least one who’s also been propping up fellow obstructionist Sen. Joe Manchin.
According to new Fec filings, Sinema brought in $1.6 million in Q4, only $33,983 of which was unitemized, which designates donations of less than $200 (i.e., ones from ordinary people). Shane Goldmacher of The New York Times pointed out on Twitter that a lot of this big-money donor action comes from some familiar names: Harlan Crow,...

One of the closest races of the 2018 midterms was the battle for the U.S. Senate seat in Arizona vacated by Jeff Flake. It took a recount to determine that Democrat Kyrsten Sinema edged out Republican Martha McSally, who ignored calls from the White House to accuse her opponent of voter fraud. McSally was rewarded less than a month later, though, when Arizona Governor Doug Ducey tapped her to step in for Jon Kyl, who replaced John McCain following his death in August, only to resign in December.
