- Art Department
Jonathan's interest in filmmaking started early on in life having been inspired by films like King Kong (1933), Star Wars and Jurassic Park.
Starting out in the gaming space Jonathan was part of the development teams for several Warner Bros. games including; Injustice: Gods Among Us and Mortal Kombat X.
He then had the opportunity to transition to film work for Luma Pictures and contributed to a number of movies there. He helped design, model and shot model many characters and creatures for sequences on projects such as The Last Witch Hunter, Ant-Man, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Deadpool.
In 2015 he joined the digital model shop at Industrial Light & Magic realizing a lifelong dream. He has contributed to multiple award winning productions both as an individual contributor and in leadership/supervisor capacities. Credits include Obi-Wan Kenobi, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, Vader: Immortal, Doctor Strange, Captain America: Civil War and Captain Marvel among others. As the fields of real-time rendering and pre-rendering began to grow closer Jonathan was able to combine his experiences in the gaming space with his film work contributing to ILMxLAB. His work as a model supervisor on Carne y Arena helped garner the first special Academy Award for a VR experience.
Jonathan's work relies heavily on artistic anatomical knowledge. In addition to his love of movies he was equally inspired by renaissance artists such as Leonardo Da Vinci. That interest in the overlap of art and science has informed his creature work greatly. His passion for anatomy has crossed over industries where for two years he was previously a part of building the world's largest medical illustration team at Osso VR. Serving as art director his work helped secure multi-million dollar funding and has set a high bar for real-time medical image quality. Jonathan's team at Osso won multiple awards for the quality of their work including a SWSW Innovation Award and a 2021 VR Award.
Jonathan continues to contribute to innovative storytelling and visual effects at Industrial Light & Magic. His focus remains on creating believable digital characters and creatures along with their facial performances.
