Yes, that was "X Factor" contestant Jillian Jensen you saw during the Season 13 premiere of "American Idol." But the Jillian you saw on "X Factor" and the one you'll see this year on "Idol" are two very different people.
Just compare Jensen's tearful "X Factor" audition and her breezy, acoustic "Idol" audition and you have a very different singer -- the singer Jensen says she actually is, rather than the one with the bullying backstory they wanted her to be on "X Factor."
"Doing 'X Factor' was a great experience, but unfortunately I don't feel like I was allowed to be myself as an artist," she tells Zap2it, although it did give her the platform to do some motivational speaking against bullying.
Her decision to try out for "Idol" came from a longtime love of the show -- she used to watch it as a kid and...

American Idol‘s 13th season premieres tonight with a new(-ish) cast of judges including the irascible Dolphin Tale star Harry Connick Jr., budding U-Turn actress Jennifer Lopez, and grown-up Peppermint Patty Keith Urban. Maybe they’ll do a good job! I don’t know! But I’ll be there watching because American Idol is still, despite sinking (but relatively phenomenal) ratings, the greatest singing cotillion on TV. Here are five reasons why.
5. The Hollywood rounds give you the best highs and most hilarious lows.
Twelve seasons in, the Hollywood rounds of American Idol remain the most underrated part of the show and maybe the entire reality-competition genre. The bustling energy of the second tryout, where attention-starved contestants who’ve passed the city auditions jump to Hollywood and attempt group numbers in a Fanny Brice-on-roller-skates way, is often the best indicator of how truly talented and likable the auditioning contestants are.

American Idol has spent the last few years making headlines for its rotating cavalcade of judges, and today is no exception: Harry Connick Jr. and returnee Jennifer Lopez have been officially announced as Keith Urban‘s co-panelists on the 13th season of the show. Connick was one of the show’s standout mentors of the past few seasons, and Lopez was — hmm, amiable? Fine? Un-hated? — during her two-season stint as an Idol barrister. Is this changeup what the show needs?
I’ve argued this in seasons’ past, but American Idol has never been about the judges’ table. You can claim that Simon Cowell was the heart of the show for the first nine seasons, but the fact is, Cowell helped make the show great not because he was mean or funny or even critical, but because he made the show’s vocalists competitive. That’s what any great reality show...

The “American Idol Live!” 2013 tour touched down in Newark, NJ, Wednesday night, with many of Season 12′s familiar themes — the undeniable awesomeness of Candice Glover and Kree Harrison, the inscrutable warbling of Lazaro Arbos (and its Pavlovian effect on teen girls) — in tact.
But that doesn’t mean there weren’t surprises — good and bad — from the Top 10 finalists (plus sing-off winner Aubrey Cleland). Among them: Amber Holcomb’s mojo disappearing faster than Nicki Minaj at the end of the Idol season; Devin Velez developing a stage presence that (almost) matches his powerful pipes; Angie Miller getting torn between two...

When Emmy nominations come out, I can’t stop ranking and re-ranking which nominees deserve to win most — which is not the same thing as a prediction. This practice is a compulsion and a gift (or something), and today I’m cementing my personal picks for one of my favorite categories: Outstanding Reality Competition. I’m so passionate about this hokey topic, I’ve even added a seventh nominee out of pure frustration. The actual nominees are The Amazing Race (ugh, sigh), The Voice, Top Chef, Project Runway, So You Think You Can Dance, and Dancing with the Stars. We’ll rank those in a second, but for argument’s sake, here’s my pick for a seventh-place show.
7. American Idol

Don’t expect Mariah Carey to dedicate her next performance of “We Belong Together” to the folks at American Idol. The Grammy-winning diva confirmed via Twitter on Thursday the widely rumored notion that she will not return for Season 13 of Fox’s reality singing competition.
Additionally, the network announced that fellow judge Nicki Minaj is exiting The House That Kelly Clarkson Built, as well.
“W/ global success of ‘#Beautiful’ (#1 in 30+ countries so far) @MariahCarey confirms world tour & says goodbye 2 Idol,” read a message from Carey’s publicists Pmk-bnc, that the singer retweeted shortly thereafter.

Remember last summer when ABC aired the Kelly Clarkson-fronted reality competition Duets? [Cue sound of crickets chirping.] No? Well, the part of me that watches too much reality TV (aka my heart, soul, brain and spleen) likes to think the producers of NBC’s The Voice paid secret homage to their fallen rival during the Season 4 Top 8 results telecast.

Angie Miller may have put college on hold to audition for American Idol, but she definitely put her brain to work mapping out a Season 12 trajectory that took her all the way to a third-place finish.
Angie stopped by TVLine HQ to talk about how she chose lesser-known numbers like “Never Gone” and “Love Came Down,” why she disagreed with the judges when they used “beauty pageant” and “Disney princess” to describe her, and how she’s hoping to infuse her pop-music sound with elements of “edgy” rock and influences from her deeply held Christian beliefs. Many American Idol viewers had Angie Miller penciled in for the finale, if not the win. But after competing against Candice Glover and Kree Harrison, Angie was shockingly eliminated in third place. And she was just as surprised as the audience.
"I felt confident in my songs Top 3 week. I thought I was going to make it," she tells TVGuide.com. "When they said that Kree was safe, it was just kind of like, 'Oh, wow, that really just happened. Oh, wow, that's what it feels like.'"

Can you guess our pick for the best performance of the season? Better yet: Can you guess the One male vocalist who made our list?
Maybe you’re done with the twelfth season of American Idol, but I’m not. Before we officially switch off our DVR season pass and lock ourselves in for So You Think You Can Dance, let’s take one last look at the low-rated, but luckily lady-dominated season and pick the 10 best performances.
10. Kree Harrison, “What the World Needs Now”
Kree really impressed me with song choices early on in the series. This girl chose two Susan Tedeschi songs. She picked an effing Faith Hill song that ended up being great and original. And most impressively, she chose this sung-to-death Bacharach tune and improved on its original version (by the lovable Jackie DeShannon) by rendering the song in her glum, disarmingly unembellished voice. Starting out in a cappella?...

Adam Lambert stopped by American Idol last night, performed “Titanium” with Angie Miller, and turned everyone into Glamberts.
Adam’s upper register really should be studied by scientists. I’m sure it could provide a cure for some deadly disease, like malaise or lethargy.

Did Candice pull off a win? And did Adam Lambert pull off his mascara? (Yes.)
“Candice, why you gotta make this all about you?”
Look. You can pretend the Idol finale is some grandiose, tasteless, freakish spectacle. You can even think that logically. Because it’s true and undeniable and shut up about it. But you can’t deny that the Idol finale reminds you — for a few shimmery moments — that these competitors are viable mainstream singers whether or not they actually end up being successful. They can work alongside real industry vets and not look miscast in their shadows. I dig that — especially when some of the veterans (Mariah Carey and guest performer Jennifer Lopez, in this case) look less than professional as they lip-sync their hits (and non-hits, in the case of poor Jennifer) to the horrified awe of millions. Come on, Mariah! You nail “My All” and...

Chivalry isn't dead. As Adam Lambert and third-place contestant Angie Miller took the stage on Thursdays' American Idol (TV) finale to perform a duet of Sia's hit "Titanium," audience members and viewers were instantly captivated. What could easily have become a battle of "who can sing over who" between two powerhouse singers resulted in a perfectly balanced and well-blended performance instead. Any Idol fan in the northern hemisphere is already keenly aware of Lambert's charismatic vocal power (not to mention his scene-stealing stage presence), yet on this occasion, Adam held back. This was about Angie. The duet brought us back to a time when artists did not necessarily feel compelled to step all over one another, competing for the best stage position, camera angles, and power notes amidst a host of gratuitous dancers. It's what an authentic duet is supposed to look (and sound) like. Remember? How refreshing and utterly...

The third time was the charm for Candice Glover. The 23-year-old from St. Helena Island, South Carolina edged out fellow finalist Kree Harrison to become the Season 12 winner of "American Idol."Candice became the show's first female champion since Jordin Sparks in Season 6, and the first R&B/soul singer to win since Fantasia Barrino in Season 3.The finalists and audience had to wait two hours to find out the results. Ryan Seacrest called them to the center of the stage, where he revealed the results. Watch the emotional moment below:"Three years," an emotional Candice exclaimed after she found out she won, in reference to her two previous attempts that fell short (Season 9 and 11). She was too overcome to sing her coronation song "I Am Beautiful." Note to "Idol" producers: wait until they're done singing to fire the confetti cannons, as this was the second year in a row...

Candice Glover is the new "American Idol" winner. The 23-year-old beat out Kree Harrison to take the "American Idol" crown for Season 12.
Glover is the first female winner since Jordin Sparks won "American Idol" Season 6. Third time's the charm it seems, this season was the third time Glover tried out for "American Idol."
Glover's vocals brought the judges to their feet and to tears over the course of Season 12. At one point, judge Mariah Carey glitter bombed the contestant.

American Idol 2013 Candice Glover won the entire show tonight,May 16th. The big finale show, kicked off with the top ten, performing "So Glad You Came" by "The Wanted," which was speculated to have been lip synced, lol! At one point, they showed a funny skit as to why all the guys got eliminated in a row. However, what was really funny about it, is that we all knew that is was really because they sucked like hell. Anyways, after a couple of awful performances from the contests and some stars they were placed with, Mariah Carey hit the stage to sing a couple of her classic hits to keep people from tuning out. I know it was the only thing that kept me watching, and that's pretty bad since I actually have to cover this God-forsaken show. Next, they showed Amber Holcomb perform with Emeli Sande. If America made the right decision, they voted for Candice after the May 15 episode of ‘American Idol.’ She deserves to take Phillip Phillips’ crown on May 16.
Candice Glover received a standing ovation after each one of her three American Idol performances on May 15. She’s the clear frontrunner going into the May 16 season finale.
Candice Glover: Why She Should Win ‘American Idol’
It’s been six long years since a woman won the title of “American Idol.” It’s refreshing to have two women in the finale, let alone five in the top five. However, I must admit, I originally went into the May 15 finale with a chip on my shoulder. I still believe that Angie Miller should have won (rewatch her Hollywood Week performance), but I’ll forgive America for that mistake. In the first girl vs. girl finale since season three, Candice & Kree sang three songs each in the hopes that America would choose them as their next Idol — who are You voting for?
Kree Harrison and Candice Glover both admit that winning American Idol will change their lives — but only one can walk away with the title. After three rounds of singing on the Idol stage for the last time, who are you voting for tonight, HollywoodLifers?
‘American Idol’ Finale — Candice & Kree Battle It Out
For round one, it was Idol creator Simon Fuller‘s song choice.
Kree started the night with “Angel” by Sarah McLachlan. I thought it was a perfect song choice.
Candice sang Adele‘s “Chasing Pavements.” I thought she sounded amazing and looked so comfortable on the stage.
“I’m so proud to be a part of this show, particularly of this season, because this talent is so magnificent.

‘American Idol’ has broken several records during its current 12th season. Not only has the hit Fox singing competition made headlines for the fighting between new judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj, but the sole remaining original judge, Randy Jackson, also recently announced that he won’t be returning for next year’s 13th season. The current season is also the first one in which all of one gender’s finalist were eliminated before any of the opposite gender’s finalist, making it the first season to have an all-female Top 5. Last Thursday night, Angie Miller was the eighth contestant to be eliminated from Season 12′s Top 10 finalists, after singing three songs-Jimmy [ Read More ]

Angie sat down with journalists recently to talk about her experience throughout Season 12 , as well as her unexpected elimination. In this candid interview, she shares her plans for the future, the lessons she's learned, and her love for Candice and Kree. Here's what she had to say. Has the shock worn off? I know I’m still shocked. Yeah. It’s worn off a little yeah. Do you feel that winning Idol would bring you that much more...

I was seriously surprised that Angie Miller was eliminated on the May 9 episode of ‘American Idol’ — I definitely thought she deserved a spot in the finale. I’ll tell you why.
Judge Randy Jackson said it best when he said that this American Idol top three was probably the best top three they’ve Ever had — but that didn’t make it any easier when we had to say goodbye to a tearful Angie Miller on the May 9 results show. In fact, 74 percent of HollywoodLifers polled said she should have moved on. Was it wrong for her to go home?

Did Kree, Angie, or Candice descend to hell?
1. Candice, Kree, and Angie sing a terribly dubbed version of “Who Says” by Selena Gomez. They almost gain the energy to speed up their collective saunter, but it doesn’t happen. Stumping for Ford Fiesta is tiring, I guess. And so is pretending to believe in the poetic power of a Selena Gomez song.
2. As part of their “Fiesta Mission,” the three ladies head over to a high school and sing with the choir. I wanted Candice to announce, “Everyone Here Is Getting A Ford Fiesta” before walking away and leaving them nothing.
3. I have to agree with Jimmy “Aged Tortoise Emperor” Iovine about Angie’s performance of “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word.” Solid, but underwhelming considering how big and emotional the song is. She’s no Leona Lewis.
4. Just noticed that Paul Jolley and Devin Velez are sitting together in the audience.
