U.S. Senator from Arizona, 2019-present. She is the first Democrat to represent Arizona since 1995, as well as Arizona's first woman senator. She is also the second openly LGBT senator, being openly bisexual, after Tammy Baldwin.
Was raised Mormon and graduated from Brigham Young University in Utah, but no longer identifies with any religion.
In 2013 she completed an Ironman Triathlon in 15 hours.
Earned a masters in social work, J.D., Ph.D. in justice studies, and an MBA from Arizona State University.
She left the Democratic Party in December 2022 and became an independent. She will continue to caucus with the Democratic Party for committee assignments.
