Lights Out, Annabelle: Creation, Shazam!, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods director David F. Sandberg recently said that he’ll be returning to the horror genre with his next feature, which would be an expansion of a couple short films he previously made. Now we’ll have to wait and see if that actually does turn out to be his next feature, because The Hollywood Reporter has just broken the news that Sandberg is re-teaming with Annabelle: Creation screenwriter Gary Dauberman for a movie based on the horror video game Until Dawn! Well, either way, we’re getting a new horror movie from Sandberg.
The Hollywood Reporter notes, first released in 2015, Until Dawn is an interactive horror video game that follows eight friends and frenemies who are brought together a remote mountain retreat. With live or die scenarios featuring a mysterious killer, cannibalistic wendigos, a cable car, and a long-ago...

David F. Sandberg, known for “Annabelle: Creation,” “Shazam!” and “Lights Out,” will direct the film adaptation of the PlayStation horror video game “Until Dawn” by Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions.
“It: Chapter Two” and “The Nun” screenwriter Gary Dauberman is doing the most recent pass on a script from “The Invitation” writer Blair Butler. The plot for the film is under wraps but is said to be an “R-rated and terrifying love letter to the horror genre.”
The PlayStation video game centers on eight friends trapped together on a remote mountain retreat — only to discover they are not alone. They must navigate dread and fear to make it through the night in one piece. The video game, which starred Rami Malek and Hayden Panettiere in motion-capture versions, was named in Variety’s 2021 list of games that deserve movie adaptations.

Supermassive’s hit video game Until Dawn is celebrating its 10th anniversary next year, and The Hollywood Reporter reports today that a movie adaptation is on the way!
David F. Sandberg, who directed Lights Out and Annabelle Creation before helming the two Shazam movies, will be seated in the director’s chair for the Until Dawn movie.
Blair Butler (Sony’s The Invitation) wrote the original draft of the screenplay, and THR notes that Gary Dauberman is now working on the script.
THR previews, “The logline for the feature adaptation is kept deep inside the caves but Screen Gems is describing it as R-rated love letter to the horror genre, centering on an ensemble cast.”

Shazam! Director David F. Sandberg Is Brilliant, But His Real Talents Are Wasted On Superhero Movies
"Shazam! Fury of the Gods" opened this weekend with such a low box-office turnaround that there's a good chance it will be the last cinematic adventure for Billy Batson. Now, I don't work for Warner Bros. or DC, but I can't imagine anyone who does work at either company is having a particularly good Monday morning after this opening weekend. I can only assume that emergency meetings are occurring where folks are frantically trying to troubleshoot what went wrong, and how they can recoup some of the losses. Is it superhero fatigue? Is it Zachary Levi's seemingly anti-vaxxer stance on social media? Is it that folks know there's a new DC slate coming so they're not invested in the last vestiges of a soon-to-be-bygone era?
While there's certainly no easy answer, there is one thing I know for sure: director David F. Sandberg is innocent. Sandberg directed both "Shazam!" movies,...

Martin Scorsese is set to join the ranks of David F. Sandberg and Lotta Losten, Spike Lee, Michel Gondry, and other filmmakers as people who have taken their time in Covid-19-induced lockdown to create something new. Whereas some, like Sandberg, Losten, and Gondry, have used the quarantine to create new fictional shorts, Scorsese is going the route of Spike Lee and creating something that is a better reflection of what life is like in New York City during this unprecedented time.

Ready for another terrifying horror flick? Director David F. Sandberg, the same dude who brought us Shazam!, Lights Out, and Annabelle Creation, has made another short, scary-as-crap, movie during quarantine with his wife Lotta Losten.
Their first was the creepy short, Shadowed.
The follow up is the frightening Not Alone In Here.
I love this 6-minute film! How great would it be to see this scary short put before The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It – scheduled for a theatrical release on September 11.
Read our review of Annabelle: Creation here.
The director debuted Not Alone In Here on Twitter:
Not Alone in Here. @lottalosten and I made another horror short in quarantine. We tried something different this time and it’s our longest short yet at over 6 minutes.

Director David F. Sandberg, who helmed last year’s well-liked DC film “Shazam!,” is making the most of his time hunkered down at home. He’s released, via Twitter, a spooky, three-minute horror short titled “Shadowed,” starring his wife Lotta Losten, an actress and frequent collaborator. Like her husband, she’s no stranger to the horror genre either, as she starred in his horror hits “Lights Out” and “Annabelle: Creation,” as well as “Shazam!” The director calls “Shadowed” a “companion piece” to “Lights Out,” and urges you to “watch loud in the dark.” Watch it below.
This nifty, no-budget exercise in terror is all natural light, dark corners, and silence interrupted by unexpected bursts of sound. In the film, Losten’s character is terrorized by shadows both real and spectral, as she realizes she’s definitely not alone. It’s impressive what Sandberg is able to achieve with limited means and in a single location.

Way back in 2013, director David F. Sandberg and his producer/wife Lotta Losten made the short horror film Lights Out for the Who’s There film competition. While it failed to win said competition, it soon went viral at which point Hollywood came calling. Three years later, and Lights Out hits the big screen, stretching out the originals premise to tell the story of a fractured family, torn apart by mother Sophie's (Maria Bello) mental illness and her ‘imaginary’ friend Diana, a very real and very possessive spirit that can only exist in darkness. When Sophie’s estranged daughter Rebecca (Teresa Palmer) attempts to rescue her brother Martin (Gabriel Bateman) and help her brother on the way back to sanity, she finds herself firmly in Diana’s sights. From the very first frame, Lights Out screams out of the traps with an incredibly creepy opening scene that lays out the...

If you’ve seen David F. Sandberg’s Lights Out, you are more than well aware that a huge reason why the film’s scares are so effective is due to Alicia Vela-Bailey, who portrays Diana, the supernatural entity that has an aversion to the light and will stop at nothing to destroy anyone she comes across.
Daily Dead recently spoke with the stuntwoman-turned-actress at a press event about her experiences working on Lights Out, collaborating with Sandberg on her character, and more.
What was it like for you to step into the role of Diana?
Alicia Vela-Bailey: It was so much fun. When David first showed me the character, just when she was in the artwork stage, I was just so excited. I was like, “Oh my gosh, this is so creepy.” I love horror movies, so I love just trying to help create the mood and to...
