Howie Shawki was born in Baghdad, Iraq to Kurdish parents from Northern Iraq in December 1985. His parents moved to London, UK when he was a year old and grew up in various parts of the city including South and West London. Howie grew up loving film and television from a very young age and was known for quoting lines films and TV shows off by heart. He developed an uncanny knowledge of film and TV trivia. He had originally wanted to pursue acting but was discouraged at the time to pursue other professions. Howie graduated from London Metropolitan University in 2010 with a BA in Film Studies and Public Relations. He then went on to the School of Oriental and African Studies and gained a Master's in International Studies and Diplomacy in 2012. He intended to join the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office as a career diplomat but ended up working in various industries and organizations including working for a Member of the UK Parliament, the Kurdistan Regional Government's Office in London and working in Business Events Production as an Events Producer. He first moved to New York City in 2012 and ended up working as a PA on an indie feature and after speaking with friends and other colleagues, he made the decision to follow a career in film and TV production and is now working in New York City as a PA and Assistant Director. He wants to become a Director and Producer of features, TV shows, documentaries, and other formats and has worked on various projects including the HBO series 'High Maintenance', FOX's 'Gotham', NBC's 'Manifest' and has been a 1st AD on several feature films and commercials.
