Kittie have officially announced their first album in 13 years. The new LP, titled Fire, will arrive June 21st via Sumerian Records.
In advance of its release, the Canadian metal band has unveiled the new song “Vultures,” which follows previous singles “Eyes Wide Open” (a Heavy Song of the Week honoree in February) and “We Are Shadows.”

Regarding the new album, Kittie singer-guitarist Morgan Lander stated, “10 years ago, if someone would have told us that we would be releasing new Kittie music in 2024, we’d have dismissed them right away. It feels like something deeper than fate that’s brought us together again, allowing us to create something fearless and magical for you. We’ve worked incredibly hard over the past year, and surrounded ourselves with the ultimate dream team to make this album a reality. We cannot wait for you to lose yourselves in the passion and strength of Fire.

Kittie have unveiled “Eyes Wide Open,” the first new song from the Canadian metal band in 13 years.
Last week, Kittie founder Morgan Lander announced the band’s new non-alcoholic beer collaboration with Australia’s We Are Pigs. Little did we know, Kittie also had a single drop looming — the first new music from the band since 2011’s I’ve Failed You.
After premiering on SiriusXM’s Liquid Metal station on Tuesday (February 13th), “Eyes Wide Open” is now available on streaming platforms and as a music video (watch below). The Nick Raskulinecz-produced track is a crushing return to form. Tight groove-metal riffs backing Lander’s domineering howls, recalling Vulgar Display-era Pantera with its combination of riffage and attitude.
“Our first new material in 13 years, ‘Eyes Wide Open’ is a vision quest for truth,” commented Lander in a press release. “It is a torch lit in the darkness of ignorance...

Deftones‘ latest studio album, Ohms, dropped in 2020, but it appears the guys are well into the writing phase for their next LP. Speaking on the Gnostic Academy podcast, guitarist Stephen Carpenter said the band is working with producer Nick Raskulinecz on a new album, and they’re eyeing a 2024 release.
“Just in the last couple of months, really — two or three months; well, maybe a little longer now, really; February is when we started … to work on new material for a new record,” Carpenter told Gnostic Academy (as transcribed by Blabbermouth.net). “It’s going good now. It was a little slow at first, but it always is; dragging our feet ain’t nothing new. But we’ve got stuff up and going now, and we’re on a good little momentum at the moment. And we hope to have it all done and out by next spring [or] summer. There...

In a 2021 interview, Dave Grohl reflected on the first time he met Taylor Hawkins. “We were at some radio show backstage, and he came up with a beer in his hand,” Grohl recalled. “He’s like, ‘Hey, man, what’s up? I’m Taylor, I play with Alanis Morissette. Dude, I love your record, it’s so cool!’ He was such a spaz. I was like, ‘Wow, you’re either my twin or my spirit animal, or my best friend!’ In the first 10 seconds of meeting him.” Those 10 seconds would...

Halestorm spell-out their hard-rock mission statement on the new track “The Steeple,” a defiant redemption song that finds the band’s Lzzy Hale emerging from the wilderness of pandemic isolation.
“This is my kingdom / this is my cathedral / this is my castle / these are my people,” she howls. “It’s been a long road outta hell / up to the steeple.” The dramatic high point, though, comes not in the chorus, but after guitarist Joe Hottinger’s intricate, spiderweb solo, when Hale repeats the chorus a cappella.

Last year’s self-titled debut album from the hirsute young Canadian rock duo Crown Lands is an accomplished, chops-heavy take on blues-rock, produced by roots mastermind Dave Cobb, which won them critical praise and two Juno nominations. But the multi-tasking duo — Kevin Comeau plays guitar, bass, and keyboards, while Cody Bowles plays drums and sings — is already working on a radical shift of direction. “While we always had our roots in blues and stuff, before Crown Lands, we were really into prog,” says Bowles (who uses they/them pronouns). “When we started Crown Lands,...

Amy Lee misses Brooklyn. She lived there for 12 years with her husband (and later their son, born in 2015), before they left their apartment for Nashville a year ago.
“The perfect year,” she says with an eye roll over Zoom. Lee had hoped to be closer to her family in Arkansas and friends in Nashville when she moved, only to find herself stuck at home with the rest of the world. “We haven’t gotten [to see people] as much as we would have liked to because of Covid, but now we are here,...

Halestorm revisit some of their past songs on the new EP Reimagined, out now. But the project isn’t a clichéd set of acoustic readings; instead, the hard-rock band stays true to the EP’s title and revamps the arrangements. Their 2009 debut single “I Get Off” taps into brooding funk, while 2012’s “Break In” becomes a duet between Lzzy Hale and Amy Lee of Evanescence.
The left-field head-turner, however, is a faithful cover of “I Will Always Love You,” written by Dolly Parton and a signature hit for Whitney Houston.

Hours before the 2007 Super Bowl in Miami, Florida, producer Don Mischer called up Prince to tell him he’d probably have to perform his halftime show in the middle of a torrential downpour. “I want you to know it’s raining,” Mischer said. “Are you Ok?” Prince had a very simple response: “Can you make it rain harder?”
Prince knew that the horrid weather would only add to the drama of his show, which he packed with surprise covers like “We Will Rock You,” “All Along the Watchtower” and “Best...

Korn has dropped a haunting new song “Can You Hear Me,” the third single from The Nothing, the band’s first LP in three years.
The video opens with the announcement, “People, wake the fuck up!” With a searing guitar riff and devastating lyrics like “And while my heart keeps holding on/I know I’ll never be the same again,” it tells the story of a commune leader and his followers accompanied by stark visuals of blood.
The clip also doubles as a trailer for Korn’s six-part podcast The Nothing,...

At this point, it’s pretty clear that Rush have no real future as either a studio or live band. But this August, a little more than four years after the Canadian prog-rock legends played their final notes together onstage in 2015, fans will have the chance to celebrate the group at worldwide, one-night-only screenings of a new film called Cinema Strangiato. Today, they’re teasing the contents with a new trailer.
The feature, partly named after Rush’s beloved 1978 instrumental “La Villa Strangiato,” promises highlights from Rush’s 2015 R40 Live...

Alice in Chains cling to painful memories on their cathartic new song “Never Fade.” “Growing cold, try to numb my feeling/ Lose control/ All my friends are leaving,” the alt-metal band laments over venomous power chords. “Paid the price for all the lies I used to live/ Sacrifice for all the love I tried to give.”
“Never Fade” is the band’s third single from their upcoming sixth album, Rainier Fog, following “The One You Know” and “So Far Under.” The quartet recorded the LP with producer Nick Raskulinecz (Mastodon,...
