“People ask me, where are all the great exploitation movies today? The low-budget horror films? They’re on the Lifetime Network!” Shudder’s horror host Joe Bob Briggs once said, and he’s not entirely wrong about that. There’s plenty of entertainment value to be found in Lifetime’s particular brand of thriller, and a new year brings along with it a brand new slate.
Deadline reports on Lifetime’s Quarter 1: 2024 slate of original thrillers this afternoon, which promises fourteen brand new thrillers premiering here in the early months of the year.
Here’s the full lineup of Lifetime thrillers in the first quarter of 2024…
Dying For Fame (January 4 at 8pm Et/Pt). Starring Dylan Raine, Amelie Anstett. A career-driven tabloid reporter Anna (Raine) is assigned to write a profile about popular influencer Juliet (Anstett). During their time together, Anna discovers that many of Juliet’s fans aren’t real.

Tubi’s October event “Terror on Tubi” comes to a close with one last new movie, though after watching A Party to Die For, you’ll likely feel underwhelmed. Maybe even misled. Of all the Tubi Originals to premiere during this sacred month of scares, Nanea Miyata‘s is the most removed from the horror genre, largely because it’s not a horror movie. The line between a horror movie and a thriller often blurs, all thanks to shared styles, ambiguous rules, and filmmakers who want the best of both worlds. A thriller can be just as scary when placed in the right hands, and a horror movie can center itself around a mystery. In the case of A Party to Die For, this is a thriller that fails to thrill, much less horrify its audience.
Miyata pens a familiar tale here. Someone is seduced by the danger of a new scene and crowd,...

Back in October 2019, before the pandemic, we brought you news about American Civil War movie Freedom’s Path.
The feature, which charts the friendship between a Union soldier and a runaway slave who is helping facilitate the Underground Railroad, stars Ewen Bremner (Trainspotting), Rj Cyler (Me And Earl And The Dying Girl) and Gerran Howell (Catch 22). Post-production has just wrapped.
As it turned out, the project would mark the final stops on the journey of two veteran actors who died while the movie was in post-production: Thomas Jefferson Byrd, a frequent Spike Lee collaborator, and New Orleans native Carol Sutton, both of whom had supporting roles.
Both actors died in sad circumstances. Tony-nominee Byrd was murdered in Atlanta and Sutton died of complications from Covid.
Today, the production has chosen to release two images of the admired actors in their final film, marking the first official stills from the movie.

Jermaine Rivers is an actor best known for his role as “Shatter” in the Marvel comic book TV Series “The Gifted.” This series was set in the X-Men Universe and featured some lesser-known characters from the comics like Blink and Thunderbird, both of whom made brief appearances in the blockbuster film X-Men Days of Future Past. Jermaine’s character (Shatter) origins stemmed from the comic titled “The Morlocks” (2002), a four-book mini-series created by Geoff Johns and Shawn Martinbrough. Although Shatter was one of those lesser-known characters, his mutated appearance (black crystalline skin, shattered depression on his right temple, and damaged

Abiel Bruhn and John Rocco (A Not So Pleasant Surprise) work together once again on The Night Sitter, a horror film about a con artist who pretends to be a babysitter in order to steal from a wealthy occult enthusiast. Things don’t necessarily go to plan, however, when the attempt at the theft is interrupted by the awakening of three witches. The results aren’t so good, as The Three Mothers begin to snuff people out. The babysitter, Amber and the two kids she’s babysitting, Ronnie and Kevin, do their best to survive. Ambers friends also join in the fun, and perhaps begin to wish they hadn’t.
Let’s talk about the cast a little.

"One thief. Two kids. Three witches. No mercy." Signature Entertainment has debuted an official trailer for an indie horror titled The Night Sitter, from filmmakers Abiel Bruhn & John Rocco (A Not So Pleasant Surprise). This premiered at a few genre festivals last year and is getting a release this summer. It's hard to figure out what's going on in the trailer, but it certainly does look freaky and unsettling. Inspired by masters of horror cinema like Argento, Raimi, and Carpenter, The Night Sitter is a "nostalgic, creepy-as-hell horror described as Home Alone meets The Evil Dead." This stars Elyse Dufour, Jack Champion, Jermaine Rivers, Amber Neukum, J. Benedict Larmore, Ben Barlow, and Joe Walz. Watch out for witches. Here's the first trailer (+ poster) for Abiel Bruhn & John Rocco's The Night Sitter, direct from YouTube: When a scheming con artist (Elyse DuFour) poses as an innocent babysitter called Amber, in...

This is somehow the third Christmas horror movie I have reviewed for Nerdly and watched this year. A fact that is only surprising because I will only watch Christmas movies during November and December. And November is only included because I have too many holiday-themed films to great through in just one month!
My love for these films just come from my love of Christmas in general. At the risk of lots of horror fans groaning, I prefer it to Halloween! I think because as a child Halloween was nothing to me, I was way too scared to ‘Trick or Treat’ and I watched horror movies all year round so that time wasn’t any more special.

There's a brand new X-Men series coming - but who are The Gifted, exactly?
The Gifted is Fox's second adaptation bringing the X-Men universe to live action TV. Legion was very well made – visually terrific, clever and stylish, but it wasn’t too X-Men-centric. The Gifted? Though doubtlessly a more conventional take on Marvel's merry mutants, The Gifted could be the X-Men show fans have been waiting patiently for since at least the mid-90s.
As if to prove it, the show hasn't even aired yet and it already promises to be rammed with familiar names and faces. If you want to get up to speed on who (and what) The Gifted are, here's everything you need to know about the characters who have already been announced.

When you consider how vast the X-Men universe truly is, it’s actually downright baffling why it hasn’t been fleshed out on television aside from several stellar animated series. Fortunately, that’s recently started to change thanks to the highly acclaimed Legion and The Gifted, the latter of which will kickoff this fall.
What makes this particular show so interesting is that it’ll focus on mutants that the mainstream aren’t normally used to seeing. Well, there’s Blink, whom some of you may know from Days of Future Past, but there’s also Polaris, who’s long overdue for her live action debut.
The latest addition to the cast comes in the form of Jermaine Rivers (MacGyver), who’s been tapped to play none other than Shatter. Originally created by Geoff Johns (yes, he did work for Marvel earlier in his comic book writing career), the character...
