Skip to episode five and watch Shashi Tharoor and Kunal Kamra's gigs if you are in speedwatching mood, and you will have watched pretty much the best bit of the show.
In his debut as a stand-up comedian, author-politician Tharoor doles out a few gems on Indian politics. There is a potshot at his self-obsession with the English language, too.
Tharoor's is mostly an introspective set coming from a person who has nothing to do with showbiz, and yet he scores above Taapsee Pannu, Richa Chadha, Vishal Dadlani and Bhuvan Bam ? the other celebrity comics on the show.
"One Mic Stand" falls short of expectation not because of lack of effort. As an experiment in the Indian stand-up scene it is definitely a novel try. The sense of being let down, however, is an outcome of ineffective execution. Each episode wastes too much time in capturing the preparation process of each celebrity performer.

EntertaimentThe Amazon Prime series is set to release on November 15. Tnm StaffIt’s common knowledge that MP Shashi Tharoor has a penchant for perplexing English words (recall the “farrago of distortions” or “floccinaucinihilipilification” incidents). Now, in a new Amazon Prime comedy special, Tharoor seems to be poking fun at his own language skills. “It’s gotten to the point where anything I say is assumed by people to be more complicated than it really is,” he said in a sneak peek of the series, set to release on November 15. Even his lunch order is evidently hard to understand. “So I said, please may I have a Caesar salad. And this woman says, ‘Oh Shashi, always quoting Shakespeare,” Tharoor says. "I have dabbled in stand-up comedy before, very briefly. But it was quite a challenge taking this on. Sapan and Ashish have been admirable mentors, pushing me to do better at each step. They have distinctly different styles and I imbibed a lot from their individual style.

Homosexuality is hugely misunderstood within South Asian society. Not only that, with Section 377 re-implemented in India, homosexuality is now also a “criminal” offence in India. As you probably have guessed Section 377 has attracted many opinions and sentiments.
Some have argued that homosexuality is “un-natural”, a “disease”, not a part of “Indian culture” – therefore supporting the re-criminalisation as just.
Others have argued against Section 377, speaking up for sexuality as love, as natural, for the personal freedom of an individual’s right to be whom they are without fear.
Perhaps most importantly, Section 377 has made the root cause of the re-criminalisation and homophobia apparent: the misunderstandings surrounding homosexuality.
Speaking up against homophobia and the ridiculous misunderstandings, Bollywood’s Imran Khan recently collaborated with “All India Back**d” (Aib) to make an inspirational, powerful, humorous and thought provoking video.

India seems to be in the grip of what is being seen as a rape epidemic. After the Delhi gang rape last year, many people have expressed their opinions about these horrendous acts, which just don’t seem to end going by the media coverage. Opinions varied from condemning the act to how girls need to be kept under controle. Comedy podcast All India Bakchod gives their answer to the often heard comment “rape is a woman’s fault.”
The video sees the happy Kalki Koechlin and VJ Juhi Pande talking to Indian woman and explaining to them with a smile how rape is always the victim’s fault. It’s a sarcastic take on the victim-blaming that happens in India. The video incorporated all the bizarre comments heard in the last few months which justified rape. It deals with topics such as how woman should dress appropiately, how they...
