Alongside her duties as head of Amazon Studios, Salke will also oversee MGM Scripted television and film, as well as creative marketing and distribution. Assisting her will be Chris Brearton, who will now serve as vice president, Pvs corporate strategy, overseeing the streaming servince MGM+ (formerly Epix) and MGM Alternative Television.

It’s official – Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios, will also oversee MGM, the venerable film and TV studio, which was acquired by Amazon earlier this year for 8.5 billion. After holding two separate town hall meetings for Amazon Studios/Primetime Video and MGM employees earlier today, Mike Hopkins, SVP Prime Video & Amazon Studios, sent a followup memo to MGM employees Friday afternoon. In it, he shared more details about the interim organizational reporting changes that will be implemented as Amazon prepares to start the integration process following the close of its $8.5 billion acquisition of the stories Hollywood studio.

MGM on Monday announced it’s bolstered its worldwide marketing team, tapping David Luner as executive vice president of worldwide TV marketing, Michael Fisk as executive vice president of film marketing and Val Aveni as vice president of social media and brand strategy.
Luner, Fisk and Aveni will report to MGM’s chief marketing officer Stephen Bruno.

United Artists confirmed last week’s news that Gerry Rich will become president of marketing, replacing David Kaminow. Rich, a vet who has held top marketing posts at Paramount, MGM/UA and The Weinstein Company, will spearhead campaigns for MGM and Annapurna films in the U.S. as part of the joint venture between the two companies.

At the box office, President's Day weekend offered one big out-of-this-world shocker. Sure, "A Good Day to Die Hard" opened at No. 1, as expected, and "Safe Haven" did well over Valentine's Day weekend, even better than predicted. And no one expected much from "Beautiful Creatures," so it can't be said to have underperformed. But popping up in fourth place, with a surprisingly strong $16.1 million, was a 3D cartoon that seemed to have come out of nowhere, "Escape From Planet Earth."
