The decision-making behavior of cinema audiences has been altered by the more-than two-year Covid era – and not just by streaming – executives at this week’s CineAsia convention said. It remains to be seen whether exhibitors and distributors can keep pace with a pickier and more easily distracted clientele.
“People have no hesitation going back to movies for the right movie. But consumers have changed their habits in favor of blockbusters. [Cinema-going] is no longer a regular activity. It has become more event-driven,” said Koh Mei Lee, CEO of Malaysia’s largest exhibitor Golden Screen Cinemas. “[Exhibitors ] need to drive the habit.”

If there’s one thing that probably everyone can agree on right now, it’s this: Keanu Reeves deserves all the success and happiness he can get. As one of Hollywood’s most humble, good hearted and all around pleasant people, he finds himself held in high regard amongst both fans and colleagues and the internet, in particular, just can’t seem to get enough of the guy.
In fact, just when you think he can’t get any better, or make us like him anymore, he goes ahead and brings his mom to the Oscars as his date. Yes, really. And as evidenced by the Tweets below, fans now have a whole new reason to love him.

Last weekend, while my column was here, I was not. I was an invited guest at WonderCon out in Anaheim, CA, and I had a great time. It reminded me of San Diego Comic Con (who owns WonderCon) back before Sdcc got so huge and overwhelmed with media stuff. WonderCon was mostly about comics and that felt very cool.
My duties were pretty light – two panels and two hour-long autograph sessions and one video interview. I didn’t have a table (my own fault) so I had a chance to walk around unfettered and unsupervised and see what I wanted. I didn’t realize fellow ComicMix columnists Jen Ernst and the Tweeks were also in attendance or I would’ve made an effort to get together with them and say hello and exchange stories about Mike Gold.
One of the big impressions I had was the sheer amount and quality of cosplayers in attendance.

Fans are eagerly anticipating the two-part crossover that airs tonight between the CW’s popular superhero shows Arrow and the Flash. The DC TV universe keeps expanding, as the upcoming CBS show Supergirl may also be connected, since CW is co-owned by CBS.
Marvel may be outdoing DC on the big screen, but DC is taking the lead on TV, with an expanding and increasingly interesting cross-over universe. The Flash and Arrow take place in the same continuity, which leads to the big cross-over story, airing tonight and tomorrow. In further news, Greg Berlanti, Executive Producer of the in-production Supergirl series, told Entertainment Weekly that the show may be connected despite being on CBS, because CBS and The CW are basically sister networks, and have a more direct relationship than the CW has with Fox. (Which is why Gotham will not cross over into the CW/Arrow/Flash universe.)

A quick review of tonight's "Arrow" coming up just as soon as I don't know how to vacation like a normal person... Sister show "The Flash" is the shiny new thing understandably getting all the attention, but "Arrow" has had a fine start to its third season. I didn't write about last week's episode, but it did a good job dealing with the emotional repercussions of Sara's murder, while "Corto Maltese" dealt nicely with the Malcolm/Thea relationship(*) and the way it in turn has altered Oliver and Thea's relationship. I don't much buy Diggle's rationale for Oliver not telling her the whole truth, but in general I have a much more anti-secrecy philosophy than the shared "Arrow"/"Flash" creative team, and Thea as secret ninja is a much better direction for her than Thea as underage club owner. (*) I particularly appreciated the tabling of the Hong Kong flashbacks in...

The Arrow is going to meet No. 1 fan. The CW series is adding Carrie Cutter (a.k.a. Cupid) to season three and EW can exclusively report that Supernatural alum Amy Gumenick has been cast in the role. As in the comics, Cupid will be a lethal villainness with a dangerously obsessive crush on The Arrow. (Surely at least a few Arrow fans can relate?)
Arrow executive producer Andrew Kreisberg created the character during his run on the Green Arrow/Black Canary comic book series. “I always loved the idea of Green Arrow having a crazed fan,” Kreisberg told EW.

Medium star David Cubitt will play Manhunter in Arrow season 3...
Arrow season 3 looks set to be an interesting one, with a crossover to the new Flash series, Brandon Routh back in a heroic role and the centralisation of previous background threat Ra’s al Ghul all primed to spice things up nicely.
Another new addition Team Arrow will be facing has now been cast – David Cubitt (who you may recognise if you watch police procedural Medium) will play Mark Shaw, aka Manhunter.
Cubbitt will make his debut in episode three of the new run, so we’ve heard. It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first Manhunter nod the show has included either. Season two’s District Attorney Kate Spencer also held the role at one time in the comics, despite never taking the mantle in the show.

The "Arrow" cast for season three continues to expand to the far corners of the DC Universe, as The Hollywood Reporter reports that "Medium" star David Cubitt has been cast as Mark Shaw, an A.R.G.U.S. agent in Corto Maltese that crosses paths with David Ramsey's character John Diggle. In the comics, Mark Shaw was one of the many who assumed the mantle of Manhunter -- though, there's no guarantee that he'll become the character in "Arrow." In season two of the series, District Attorney Kate Spencer -- another DC Character that assumed the Manhunter identity -- was killed by the end of the season before anything more about her background could be revealed. Mark Shaw's first appearance is slated for the third episode of the upcoming season of "Arrow.
