We've already got a fine domestic disc with both versions of John Ford's fine Henry Fonda western. This Region B UK release duplicates that arrangement with different extras, and throws in a fine HD transfer of an earlier Allan Dwan version of the same story -- with strong similarities -- called Frontier Marshal. It stars Randolph Scott, Nancy Kelly, Cesar Romero and Binnie Barnes and it's very good. Deepa Mehta’s Beeba Boys may be an intense film about a Sikh mobster who leads his gang into a war to take control over the drugs and arms trafficking in Vancouver, but that doesn’t mean the film isn’t without its lighter moments.
In this clip, we see Katya (Sarah Allen), the beautiful woman that gang-leader Jeet Johar (Randeep Hooda) is dating, fresh from an extravagant shopping spree and accompanied by Harry (Steve Dhillon) and Nep (Ali Momen) as they join Jeet in his limousine. She gushes about how she thinks her parents will be impressed by Jeet, particularly because he looks like the host of a fictional television show. Her excitement isn’t met with much enthusiasm from Jeet or his crew.
Beeba Boys is new territory for Deepa Mehta, and in fact offers a rare moment where a woman is directing a gangster film. If anyone could take on this challenge,...

Beeba Boys starts with a scene straight out of Goodfellas: six men drive to a rendezvous, telling jokes and ribbing one another. They arrive at the—, three expensive-looking cars meeting outside a glitzy hotel, and Jeet (Randeep Hooda), the leader of the group, gets out, threatens the apologetic man receiving them and casually shoots him in the head before doing the same to his girlfriend, an act that is treated as the sequence’s punchline. This isn’t your ordinary gangster film, though – at least not aesthetically – because these men are Indo-Canadian Sikhs jostling for territory in Vancouver.
Unfortunately, this adds more novelty value than anything; though the spoken dialogue flits between Punjabi and English, different cultural events are exploited to the advantage of...

Style and crime go hand-in-hand in the Exclusive new red band trailer for Deepa Mehta’s Beeba Boys.
A fast-paced, adrenaline-charged look at a turf war between Indo-Canadian gangs is front and centre in the culture clash of crime and drugs as the Beeba Boys do whatever it takes to be seen and feared in a white world. Led by Jeet Johar (Randeep Hooda) and his high-fashion “Good Boys,” the upstart gang of hotshots begin a turf war with the established crime syndicate to take over the drug and arms scene in Vancouver with bullets flying, stopping for nothing and no one in their way to the top.
The film is the latest offering from writer-director Deepa Mehta, and co-stars frequent Wes Anderson collaborator Waris Ahluwalia, Gulshan Grover, Paul Gross, and “Remedy” star Sarah Allen.

Deepa Mehta, one of our country’s most celebrated and well-regarded filmmakers, steps into an entirely new genre in her latest cinematic venture, Beeba Boys. We never would’ve expected the director of Water and Midnight's Children to take up purchase in the crime genre, but we couldn’t be more excited to see Deepa directing well-dressed gunslingers making terrible life choices.
Beeba Boys follows Jeet Johar (Randeep Hooda), a guarded, ruthless gangster within the very real criminal underground populated by second- and third-generation Indian immigants on Canada’s west coast. As Jeet competes with rival gangs for an increasingly shrinking turf, the single father and dutiful son is forced to violently demand respect, ensuring the Beeba Boys’ continued survival in Vancouver.
Deepa Mehta’s Beeba Boys, which hits theatres October 16, also stars Waris Ahluwalia (The Darjeeling Limited, The Grand Budapest Hotel), Paul Gross (this year’s Hyena Road), Sarah Allen,...

Kristen Stewart 'On the Road' dancing, with Garrett Hedlund on the right Down memory lane: Garrett Hedlund and Kristen Stewart 'On the Road' images At the time best known as The Twilight Saga's conflicted human Bella Swan, Kristen Stewart was cast as the exuberant Marylou in Walter Salles' film adaptation of Jack Kerouac's iconic 1950s novel On the Road. Salles had been impressed with Stewart's pre-Twilight work in Sean Penn's Into the Wild. Based on LuAnne Henderson, Kerouac's close buddy Neal Cassady's first wife, Marylou is described as a "beautiful little sharp chick." Apparently, one who also likes to move seductively to the sound of music – as can be attested by the Kristen Stewart picture above, which first came out online in early 2011. Besides Stewart, On the Road also features Garrett Hedlund – at the time best known for Tron: Legacy – as Dean Moriarty,...

The Vancouver critics have just joined the party, always offering an interesting assortment of nominations given their practice of splitting off a whole separate section for Canadian films. "Birdman" led the way in the international list, while Xavier Dolan's "Mommy" led the way in the Canadian section (which will probably be cold comfort after his film was unceremoniously snubbed by the Academy's foreign film committee). Check out the full list of nominees below. Winners will be announced on Jan. 5. And, you know: The Circuit. International Best Film "Birdman" "Boyhood" "Whiplash" Best Director Wes Anderson, "The Grand Budapest Hotel" Alejandro González Iñárritu, "Birdman" Richard Linklater, "Boyhood" Best Actor Benedict Cumberbatch, "The Imitation Game" Jake Gyllenhaal, "Nightcrawler" Michael Keaton, "Birdman" Best Actress Marion Cotillard, "The Immigrant" Tilda Swinton, "Only Lovers Left Alive" Reese Witherspoon, "Wild" Best Supporting Actor Edward Norton, "Birdman" Mark Ruffalo, "Foxcatcher" J.K. Twenty-five years ago, director Bruce McDonald first burst onto the Canadian film scene with his debut feature, the cult classic "Roadkill." And in the years since, he and his films have become a fixture in the country's indie movie landscape, from "Hard Core Logo" to his newest feature (and McDonald's 11th in total), "The Husband." While the movie isn't quite an anniversary celebration, it does act as a reunion of sorts, bringing McDonald back together with "The Tracey Fragments" actor Maxwell McCabe-Lokos, who co-wrote the script along with another former cast member of McDonald's, Kelly Harms.
Part drama, part comedy and even part thriller, "The Husband" takes the ripped-from-the-headlines premise of a female teacher convicted of sleeping with a 14-year-old student, and instead focuses on the one left out of the scandalous love triangle. McCabe-Lokos plays Henry, who's already struggling to cope with raising the couple's young child while attempting...

It.s been another successful year for the country.s premier drama schools, at least measured by the number of actor graduates that have signed with Australian talent agents.
All 22 graduates of Nida.s acting class have secured representation. The Vca had 24 graduate actors, of whom all but one has signed with agents. That actor is still negotiating while heading home to the Us.
The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (Waapa) graduated 17 actors. Sixteen have found agents and the other had a final interview on Thursday and was hopeful of doing a deal soon afterwards.
"At the Nida Showcase in early November, it was fantastic to introduce the Nida graduating class of actors to the best agents in town,. Di Drew, the school.s Head of Film and Television, tells If.
.Within three weeks, every graduate from the 2013 acting class had an agent. This year's graduates are very prepared and industry ready,...
