Evan Peters, Niecy Nash-Betts and Richard Jenkins are all likely to land Emmy nominations for their performances on Netflix’s “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.” But if members of the TV academy go all in on the first iteration of the “Monster” anthology series from co-creators Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, you shouldn’t be surprised if Rodney Burford Jr., the lead of the show’s most acclaimed episode, also winds up with a bid.
As Tony Hughes, one of the 17 men murdered by infamous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, Burford appears in three of the show’s 10 installments, including the standout sixth outing, “Silenced.” Directed by two-time Emmy winner Paris Barclay, and written by David McMillan and Janet Mock, this episode centers on Hughes, a deaf and gay Black man with big ambitions whose life comes to a tragic halt after he encounters and is killed by Dahmer...

Brett Goldstein has recalled the early years of his career when casting directors would typecast him “terrorist” roles.
Before the 42-year-old British actor found his breakthrough success starring as team curmudgeon Roy Kent on Apple TV’s heartwarming sports comedy Ted Lasso, he spent years trying to pursue dramatic roles.
Speaking to Variety, Goldstein explained: “All I would ever get audition offers for was terrorists. I guess they see my headshot and go, ‘Well, he looks like a terrorist!’”
It wasn’t until later when he finally realised he wasn’t having a “good time” in dramatic acting, that he said he finally gave in to his secret passion for standup.
“I f***ing stormed it,” he remembered of his first standup performance. “The adrenaline was so powerful that I had a great gig, and I was like, ‘Wow! F***!’”

Nick Mohammed has opened up about the moment from Ted Lasso’s season three premiere that reversed his expectations for the new season.
In the Apple TV+ footballing sitcom, Mohammed plays Nate Shelley, the former kitman at Richmond Fc, who, at the end of season two, becomes the series’ antagonist, and manager of West Ham.
Some fans had expected Nate to undergo a redemption arc in the new season, which began on Wednesday (15 March) on the streaming service.
Writing on social media, Mohammed admitted that he had been “desperate” to know about a potential redemption arc – only to be left stunned by one scene from the premiere.
“I distinctly remember receiving the first episode of season three desperate to know if the writers were going to lay the foundation for Nate’s possible redemption,” he wrote.
“Then I got to this scene and thought: ‘oh heck!’”

Ana de Armas has spoken out in defence of the 2022 movie Blonde, in which she played movie star Marilyn Monroe.
When the film’s trailer was first released, many accused it of exploitation, and its director Andrew Dominik said: “If the audience doesn’t like it, that’s the f***ing audience’s problem. It’s not running for public office.”
After seeing the movie, The Independent’s Amanda Whiting argued: “Dominik’s fictionalised biopic of the tragic movie star doesn’t just fail Marilyn Monroe herself, but its use of a talking foetus begging not to be aborted – yes, really – sinks the film into new depths of invasiveness.”
Many, however, adored the film, which received a 14-minute standing ovation at its world premiere in Venice.
Now, lead star de Armas has defended the movie and opened up about what it felt like to read the criticisms of it.

Uncoupled has been cancelled by Netflix after just one season.
The series stars Neil Patrick Harris as a man who must suddenly navigate life as a gay bachelor in his forties after his partner of 17 years suddenly walks out on him.
Alongside Harris, the series starred Tuc Watkins, Tisha Campbell, Brooks Ashmanskas, Emerson Brooks, and Marcia Gay Harden.
Uncoupled premiered back in July 2022, receiving generally positive reviews. In a three-star write-up for The Independent, Amanda Whiting wrote that the series’ jokes “feel like stabs at relevance that have already started going stale”.
When it was released, the series only stayed in Netflix’s Top 10 Most Watched chart for a week, leading many to speculate that a cancellation was forthcoming.
Now, Variety reports that the series has been cancelled by the streaming service.
Fans have shared their disappointment with the news on social media.

House of the Dragon director Greg Yaitanes confirmed that How to Train Your Dragon was one of the inspirations behind the final battle sequence in season one.
Fans had previously spotted parallels between the scene in which Aemond chases Lucerys on his much smaller dragon and a scene in the 2010 animated film about a Norse teenager named Hiccup.
“In preparation, I watched the first How to Train Your Dragon because [Oscar-winning cinematographer] Roger Deakins was the visual consultant on that. So that, cinematically, was going to be really appealing,” Yaitanes told Entertainment Weekly.
“And I went back to the original Jurassic Park because there was a sense of scale to the dinosaurs that I don’t think any of the subsequent films ever recaptured.”
He added: “[Director Steven Spielberg] knew he wanted to frame for height, and I took a lot of cues off what made the dinosaurs look so big and so interesting.

George Rr Martin appears to have all but confirmed a fan theory surrounding the health of Viserys in House of the Dragon.
The fantasy author behind HBO’s Game of Thrones and its spin-off prequel series appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to discuss his new illustrated book, The Rise of the Dragon: A History of the Targaryen Dynasty (Volume One).
During the interview, he spoke about the artists who helped to realise the scenes he imagined in his books.
As Colbert showed the audience a portrait of the Iron Throne, it was revealed that Martin originally envisaged the legendary royal seat to be much larger than the version we see in Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon.
“It looks a little dangerous,” Colbert commented.
“It is!” Martin replied. “It’s supposed to be. A lot of the kings cut themselves on it and sometimes it gets infected.

Nick Cave has said Blonde is his “favourite film of all time”, disregarding the largely damning critical response surrounding the new Marilyn Monroe biopic.
The 65-year-old Australian singer worked alongside Warren Ellis to record the soundtrack for the Ana de Armas-led adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates’s novel of the same name.
And despite “disgusted” viewers having already branded it “unwatchable” since its release on Netflix last month, Cave has proudly proclaimed it his “favourite” film.
In the latest edition of the singer-songwriter’s newsletter The Red Hand Files – in which fans can send questions to the star – he was asked: “What is your favourite film of all time?”
“Dear Sourav, Blonde. Love, Nick,” he responded.
In her one-star review, The Independent’s Jessie Thompson wrote that director Andrew Dominik’s movie “is degrading, exploitative and misogynist, yet mercilessly boring”.

A resurfaced interview featuring Hocus Pocus 2 star Kathy Najimy has gone viral for its relevant message nearly 30 years later.
In the interview clip that’s been making the rounds on TikTok, Najimy appeared on the Today show back in 1993 to promote the film’s original instalment, Hocus Pocus. While speaking with co-anchor Katie Couric, Najimy addressed her initial hesitation about taking on the role of Mary Sanderson because she “didn’t want to offend or stereotype real witches.”
“At the risk of having America roll their eyes, I just feel supportive of all groups, whether they’re women’s groups or gay groups or racial groups, and I know that there are groups of witches out there,” she told Couric at the time.
“I mean, I’m not a witch. I don’t know any personally,” the Sister Act star added. “But when I read the script, I thought this...

Joffrey. Cersei. Ramsay Bolton. In Game of Thrones, the villains were obviously and deliciously detestable. The audience knew who to root for – Jon Snow, Daenerys – because of their morality in a crowd of reprobates. In House of the Dragon, the villainy question is a little more complicated. Everyone is so evil, in fact, that it’s hard to care about the fight for the Iron Throne - a view expressed by my colleague Amanda Whiting last week. That was until the most recent two episodes when the show’s true villain emerged from the shadows.
At first, it looked like Matt Smith’s Daemon was the show’s big baddie. The warrior prince established himself as a rogue from the off, disobeying his king’s orders, massacring petty criminals in the streets and copping off with his teenage niece. But then he showed he wasn’t all bad when he...

As a teenager, Julianne Nicholson was a Marilyn Monroe “fangirl”. The Emmy-winning star of Mare of Easttown and the jungle thriller Monos devoured every book she could find on her. She watched her films, listened to compilation albums of her songs, had photographs of her taped up in her locker. “I was obsessed,” she recalls. “I thought she was so beautiful and tragic and kind of unknowable.” Now, a few decades later, she’s playing her mother in a movie so incendiary that everyone involved – including star Ana de Armas – has been forced to rush to its defence. Nicholson, to her credit, admits that it won’t be for everyone. Particularly those who don’t want to see her as a child abuser in the grips of schizophrenia.
If Blonde is a Marilyn Monroe biopic that’s been doused in petrol and set on fire, Nicholson plays the match that ignites it.

Andrew Dominik has addressed his use of foetal imagery in his new Marilyn Monroe film Blonde, saying he wasn’t “concerned with being tasteful”.
The director’s Netflix psychological drama, which stars Ana de Armas as the late Hollywood icon, is based on Joyce Carol Oates’s 2000 novel of the same name.
However, The Independent’s Amanda Whiting argued that Dominik’s movie takes the original story “somewhere even darker and even more invasive”.
Since its theatrical release, the film has received mixed reviews from critics, with Whiting further writing that Marilyn “never feels more like a Hollywood plaything than when Dominik is subjecting her to gory sexual and medical violence, probing her literally, and barbarically depicting what it feels like to be one of the 20th century’s most famous women from the inside out”.
In a new interview with Sight and Sound, Dominik spoke about his grisly depiction of Monroe’s unwanted abortion,...

Joyce Carol Oates has reacted to Blonde’s Nc-17 rating, saying that what Marilyn Monroe really went through is “much worse” than anything shown in the film.
The new Netflix psychological drama biopic starring Ana de Armas as the late Hollywood icon is based on Oates’ 2000 novel of the same name.
Since its theatrical release, it’s received mixed critical reviews, with The Independent’s Amanda Whiting arguing that “Blonde isn’t a movie about Marilyn Monroe’s exploitation, but a new low watermark in Hollywood’s treatment of her – a sex object reduced to a sex organ”.
However, it’s received a lot of attention for its rating for sexual content in the US, which means no one under the age of 17 can see it, and with which de Armas has strongly disagreed.
In a recent interview with The New Yorker, Oates said that while she didn’t “have...
