Netflix’s new film “Love Wedding Repeat” is exactly the kind of entertainment the world could use right now.
“We wanted it to be this really light, fun romantic comedy,” star Olivia Munn says on this week’s episode of the Variety and iHeart podcast “The Big Ticket.”
The wedding ensemble (available now on Netflix), directed by Dean Craig, stars Sam Claflin as the brother of the bride (Eleanor Tomlinson) who is hoping to rekindle a romance with one of his sister’s friends, played by Munn. But things take a disastrous turn when a childhood friend (Jack Farthing) shows up coked out of his mind and determined to profess his love for the wife-to-be. Rounding out the cast are Freida Pinto, Joel Fry, Tim Key, Allan Mustafa and Aisling Bea.
In a twist, the film also imagines what would happen under different circumstances. “It’s like if everybody sat at a table,...

It’s not a bad idea in these dark days to provide sheltering audiences with a light-hearted romp. What a shame then that the soufflé writer-director Dean Craig labors to construct in Love Wedding Repeat sinks early on and never recovers. Instead of a fresh take on Four Weddings and a Funeral, . Remember Hugh Grant, hair-tousled just so, in his star-making role as an Englishman who falls for an American beauty (a radiant Andie MacDowell) at one wedding and meets her fiancé at a second? Well, here we go again...

In a romantic comedy, any good-looking British actor can probably coast along on his charm and accent and manners. But to do what Hugh Grant did in the ’90s — to make you believe that for all his cultivation and civilized sex appeal, he lives inside a spectacular thicket of self-doubt that’s even more enchanting than pure confidence…well, that takes a true actor, and maybe a star. And that’s the quality Sam Claflin has in the minor but captivating “Love Wedding Repeat.” He plays Jack, who spends his sister’s wedding trying to put out a dozen fires at once. To say that the character is working overtime to hold himself together would be an understatement. He’s exquisitely flummoxed.
At the outset we hear a narrator, who sounds like the ribald version of a “Masterpiece Theatre” host, as she offers up cynical bites of wisdom like “One bit of bad luck,...

Look, it’s right there in the title: love, wedding, repeat. At first blush, director Dean Craig seems primed to bring a rom-com twist to the sub-genre of timeline-bending adventures that easily slot inside all sorts of different narratives — from “Groundhog Day” to “Edge of Tomorrow” to this year’s “Palm Springs.” But “Love Wedding Repeat” spends far too long getting there, instead opting to dig into a cute enough comedy without any timeline weirdness for more than half its running time. By the time it inches into its second hour without so much of a hint of anyone reliving the same day over and over again,
Based on the 2012 French comedy “Plan de Table,” Craig’s film eventually does kick into timeline tricks, utilizing them in such flimsy fashion that the conceit never gets a chance to blossom or charm. Too bad, because it’s a clever idea, and...

Netflix has taken worldwide rights on romantic comedy “Love. Wedding. Repeat,” the streaming giant announced Tuesday. The film, which stars Sam Claflin (pictured), Olivia Munn and Eleanor Tomlinson is a remake of 2012 French romantic comedy “Plan de Table.”
The U.K.-Italy co-production, which is currently in production in Rome, sees “Death At a Funeral” writer Dean Craig make his feature directorial debut. Craig also wrote the adapted screenplay.
The premise shows three alternate versions of the same wedding unfold as Claflin’s Jack attempts to ensure his little sister has the perfect wedding day. But he must juggle an angry ex-girlfriend, an uninvited guest harboring a secret, a misplaced sleeping pill, and his unexpected reunion with the girl of his dreams (Munn). Freida Pinto, Aisling Bea, Joel Fry, Jack Farthing, Tim Key, and Allan Mustafa also star.
“Love. Wedding. Repeat” is produced by Guglielmo Marchetti for Notorious Pictures and Piers Tempest for Tempo Productions.

People Just Do Nothing returns to BBC Three tonight for a second run - one year on from its first full series, three years after its launch as an iPlayer 'Comedy Feed' pilot, and five years since its earliest outings on YouTube.
Devised by a group of friends, the sitcom / mockumentary was inspired by The Office, Spinal Tap and Curb Your Enthusiasm - but especially (and appropriately) by a BBC Three documentary series, Tower Block Dreams, which explored the underground music scene in UK council estates.
The early webisodes of People Just Do Nothing - following the deluded crew of pirate radio station Kurupt FM, led by Mc Grindah (Allan Mustafa) and DJ Beats (Hugo Chegwin) - were shot guerilla-style, with no budget and, for the most part, no scripts.
But these early amateur efforts generated a cult following and eventually attracted the attention of Roughcut TV's Ash Atalla, producer on The Office.
