Assassin is a sci-fi thriller directed by Jesse Atlas starring Bruce Willis and Dominic Purcell.
Assassin leads us, admittedly poignantly, to the terrible conclusion that a science fiction film can be anything but pedestrian.
And this one has that terrible flaw – that it contains no new ideas other than in its initial premise.
The rest, scenes strung together are more or less well done.
Assassin Film Review
It starts out from a good idea that, carried forward with absolutely no originality, limits itself to ticking off the passing minutes and burning itself up upon the assumptions of a thriller that, scene by scene, is not bad, but lacks substance when viewed as a whole.
A film that does not want to, does not know how to – or just simply fails to – stand out and make an impact, a film shot with the lightness of a professional who performs a routine,...

It has been rather bewildering to witness no less than two dozen low-budget action movies involving Bruce Willis being churned out over the last three years. That legacy-dimming run ends with “Assassin,” which arrives almost exactly one annum after his family announced a retirement due to diagnosis of cognitive disorder aphasia. Like nearly every preceding opus featuring the erstwhile global superstar in roles of prominent billing but little screentime, this rote genre exercise is little more than a time-killer, and as such a regrettable close to a significant career. Saban Films is releasing it to U.S. theaters, digital and VOD platforms on March 31.
It is … um, sometime in the near future, somewhere or other. Alexa (Nomzamo Mbatha) and Sebastian (Mustafa Shakir) are a married couple both in the U.S. Army, though they get to see each other less than they’d like between separate tours of duty. An unhappy...

There is surely a market for an Underworld B-movie knock off, even a badly made one…. Is what I thought before I saw Among the Shadows. The film mashes the Underworld vampires and werewolves conflict idea with some hardboiled detective nonsense – the fit and healthy young lady is actually a grizzled old, alchy gumshoe.. with narration, whiskey, the whole thing.
We are in the near future, and in the “United States of Europe” thanks to Brexit, apparently. Kicking off, with quite the prankster uncle Harry calling his young, attractive niece to tell her he had been shot… her reaction implies she gets a lot of calls like this from him (possibly at 3am with uncle Harry breathing heavily and crying loudly).
The mugging of poor uncle Harry – who...

A live streamed, publicity stunt, filmed inside London’s most famous scare attraction takes a terrifying turn as the event awakes an evil spirit. Something relentless and seemingly unstoppable starts stalking the celebrity guests through the claustrophobic halls of this maze of terror.
The Tombs was, if memory serves, filmed a number of years ago in London at the scare attraction The London Tombs… Making this, despite being filmed some time ago, the latest film in a current spate of hunted attraction films to have hit DVD (and VOD) shelves, following on from the likes of Haunt, from the writers of The Quiet Place, and The Asylum’s Clown. Genovese capo Fat Dave Iacovetti flew south and fleeced Florida in mob series Silent Partners
Martin Scorsese’s mobster movie swan song The Irishman will not spell the death knoll for gangster films as long as independents continue to mine lesser known criminals. The film Mob Town told the story of the 1958 mafia summit in Apalachin, N.Y., which brought organized crime to national attention. The upcoming series Silent Partners brings a Genovese family unit to series on the same service that brought Robert De Niro and Al Pacino's mob pairing. "Netflix is excited about the project and the addition of Nick Villalonga," Gary Pastore (The Sopranos) told Den of Geek.

I can’t stop going back to an old Variety report from 2016 that contained a Braxton Pope quote about producing Looking Glass as what was then to be music video director Dori Oskowitz’s feature length debut. He spoke about how excited he was to partner with the artist in bringing a “remarkable story of voyeurism and grief to the screen.” I read that statement and wonder where it all could have gone wrong since the finished piece now directed by Tim Hunter from a script solely credited to Jerry Rapp (Matthew Wilder was also involved at one point) fails to fulfill its promise. Voyeurism and grief are both included, but neither is meaningful in the context of what proves little more than a generic thriller built from confusion.
Grief arrives with the tragic off-screen death of Ray (Nicolas Cage) and Maggie’s (Robin Tunney) young daughter. We see glimpses...
