Exclusive: Earlier this morning, Amazon revealed that it was laying off several hundred employees across Prime Video and Amazon Studios as part of a review of its business.
Details have emerged about the cuts, which were described by one source close to the company as a “bloodbath”. Senior execs let go include Nancy Cotton, Arturo Interian, Marcy Kaplan, Chris Castallo and Uri Fleming across different divisions.
Most of the exits are a result of the integration of Lindsay Sloane’s MGM Scripted Television team alongside MGM+ and the Barry Poznick-led MGM Alternative TV under Chris Brearton, VP, Corporate Strategy, Prime Video and Studios. Sloane and Poznick’s teams will continue to work closely with the studios teams in developing for Prime Video and also will continue to produce for outside networks and streamers.

The newly formed MGM/UA Television label has found a president in Steve Stark, who previously served as MGM’s president of scripted television production and development.
MGM Worldwide Television Group chairman Mark Burnett made the announcement late Friday, adding that Stark has extended his contract with the studio as part of his new role.
“We are pleased that Steve has extended his deal and is now focused on this new specialized division, as I find new ways to expand the overall MGM TV global group through several new labels,” said Burnett. “This supports our broader commitment to grow MGM’s incredible library IP, just as Steve recently did with the new ‘Vikings: Vahalla’ series. Our IP is unparalleled and is in great demand”.
Stark has been with MGM since 2011. Prior to that he served as president and exec producer of Steve Stark Productions, which had an overall deal with NBCUniversal Television.

History’s drama series “Knightfall” will return with its second season — which includes Mark Hamill — on Monday, March 25 at 10 p.m. Et/Pt, A + E Studios announced during the Television Critics Association press tour Sunday. But if you can’t wait that long to see Hamill trade in his lightsaber for a Medieval sword, you’re in luck, because History also dropped the Season 2 trailer.
The 2-minute, 16-second video teases Hamill’s debut as Talus, a battle-hardened Knight Templar veteran and initiate master who is tasked with preparing the next generation of men to proudly wear the red cross on their chests and become “God’s Executioners.” Based on the trailer, it seems Talus oscillates between giving out sage advice, and punching people.

History has picked up the Robert Zemeckis-produced UFO drama “Project Blue Book” for a 10-episode second season, the network announced on Sunday.
The scripted drama, inspired by the personal experiences of Dr. J. Allen Hynek (played by “Game of Thrones” alum Aidan Gillen) amid the top-secret military investigations into UFOs and related phenomena in the 1950s and 60s, debuted on the network last month.
The first few episodes have averaged a total of 3.4 million viewers for History, with three days of delayed viewing factored in.
“We are believers in ‘Project Blue Book’ and so is our audience who has sparked a conversation about the hundreds of unsolved cases and our nation’s military response to UFOs that have remained relatively secret until now,” said Eli Lehrer, head of programming for History, said in a statement.

Syfy has acquired A+E Networks’ sci-fi historical drama “Project Blue Book” for the U.K., it was announced Thursday by Syfy’s parent company, NBC Universal International Networks.
Executive produced by Oscar-winning filmmaker Robert Zemeckis, “Project Blue Book” is based on a real-life U.S. government operation of the same name and centers on the investigation by the U.S. Air Force into UFO sightings in the 1950s and ’60s. It was created by writer David O’Leary, who also serves as an executive producer.
Aiden Gillen stars as a brilliant yet underappreciated college astrophysics professor who is recruited to head the clandestine operation. Along with his Air Force captain partner (Michael Malarkey), who is assigned to debunk the stories, he is summoned to investigate UFO sightings around the country and uses science to discover what really happened. However, when some encounters cannot be explained and cases remain open, he begins to...

The most surprising thing about “Project Blue Book” is that it took so long to become a TV show in the first place. As it will tell you itself at the top of every episode, History’s new scripted drama is “based on true events,” or at least the recorded instances of possible UFO sightings and the Air Force’s subsequent investigations during the 1950’s and ’60s. Each week, a new case sparks new intrigue, both about the potential of both alien life and a government conspiracy to cover it up. All the while, the Cold War looms ominously, infusing everyone with a deep unease and paranoia they can’t shake no matter how hard they try to stave it all off.
In this way, “Project Blue Book” sets itself up to be a period piece “X Files,” a reliable formula that would be hard to fumble completely. That inspiration...

“Knightfall” has been renewed for a second season at History, the cabler announced Monday.
In addition, Aaron Helbing has been brought on board as executive producer and showrunner on Season 2 of the Knights Templar drama, taking over from Dominic Minghella. Helbing was most recently an executive producer and writer on CW’s “The Flash.” His other credits include “Black Sails,” “Spartacus: War of the Damned,” “The Mob Doctor,” and “Mortal Kombat: Legacy.” He is repped by CAA.
The series has also added three new cast members for the second season. “Star Wars” vet Mark Hamill will play the role of Talus, a battle-hardened Knight Templar veteran of the Crusades who survived captivity for ten years in the Holy Land and is tasked with training the new initiates to the Order.
Tom Forbes will appear as Prince Louis, the violent and unpredictable son of King Philip and heir to the throne.

With four more episodes left to air, History has decided to cancel its gritty military drama Six.
Ratings have not been kind to the second season, but there were some big changes to the story of the ten-episode chapter in comparison to Six Season 1.
What hasn't changed is camaraderie between the characters on one of the few shows on television that currently features men supporting other men in a sea of programming that features women doing it all the time.

History has canceled the military drama “Six” after two seasons, Variety has confirmed.
The scripted series followed members of the elite Navy Seal Team Six. In the second season, the team is on a mission to destroy the terrorist network responsible for the shooting of their former team leader, Richard “Rip” Taggart (Walton Goggins).

Exclusive: History has opted not to order a third season of its Navy Seal drama series Six. The decision comes with four more episodes left to air from the 10-episode second season. They will run as scheduled. I hear the timing of the decision was tied to the cast options expiring at the end of this week.
Six was a breakout for History when it debuted in early 2017, drawing strong ratings and earning a Season 2 renewal ahead of its Season 1 finale for a 10-episode second season, up from the eight-episode first season.
Ratings have dropped in Season 2, running almost 50% below the Season 1 averages in Live+same day, which I hear was behind the cancellation decision.

Vikings star Travis Fimmel has found his next big TV project with The History Channel. He's teaming up with the network to develop a scripted series that tells the legendary stories of Wyatt Earp and other "iconic sinners and anti-heroes throughout history."
Fimmel wrote the first episode of the series and will take on the role of Earp. The first installment "will focus on Earp, from his days in Dodge City and his relationships with Doc Holliday and Bat Masterson, to the real story of what happened during the legendary gunfight at the Ok Corral."

Deadline announced Travis Fimmel will remain with the History family after his expected, but nonetheless sad and shocking death on Vikings.
What's his next project you ask?
It's very exciting. Even if you haven't been a fan of his previous work, you'll be able to see the value to his project.
It's based on an original idea by Fimmel, and he's written the first episode and is also going to be executive producing and starring in a new anthology series.

Vikings returns for a gripping fourth season. Season 3 culminated with the extraordinary battle in Paris, where Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) seized victory from the jaws of defeat–but still returns to Kattegat dangerously ill.
