Pat is a big wave surfing pioneer. His son is 3-times ASP World Surf Champion Tom Curren & Joe Curren is also a notable surfer. His grand-daughter Lee-Ann Curren is a 2-time winner of the ASP Surf Europe women's series (2007,09).
