In the frequently picked-over corpse of author Charles Perrault’s classic story “Cinderella,” centered on a servant girl who rises from obscurity after falling in love with a prince, lie such themes as perseverance, hope and the value of being a dreamer. These are the cornerstone principles of the Disney corporation, founded by a fellow dreamer who, similar to the plucky protagonist in the fairy tale, made a wish and saw it come true. Though the studio has plundered these riches before with the likes of the popular 1997 TV movie musical and 2015’s lavish live-action feature, Disney+ original “Sneakerella” amounts to a modernized, more tween-oriented telling. Director Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum’s re-sole of the story, which sees a talented teen fantasizing about designing sneakers for sports royalty, delivers a poignant take on the 1950s animated film it partially cannibalizes.

Chosen Jacobs (“It”) and Lexi Underwood (“Little Fires Everywhere”) are starring alongside four-time NBA champion John Salley in the Disney Plus original film “Sneakerella,” which is now in production.
The pop/hip-hop musical aims to leave a sneaker culture imprint on the “Cinderella” fairy tale. Set in the avant-garde street-sneaker subculture of New York City, the film introduces an aspiring sneaker designer from Queens who works as a stock boy in a shoe store. Forced to hide his artistic talent from his overburdened stepfather and two mean-spirited stepbrothers, his luck changes when he meets the fiercely independent daughter of a legendary basketball star and sneaker tycoon. Salley plays the tycoon.
Jane Startz (“Ella Enchanted”) and Rachel Watanabe-Batton (“I Pity the Fool”) serve as executive producers, with co-executive producer Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum (“Ramona and Beezus”), who will also direct the film.

If you get emotional whenever you hear the song "Stay With Me," prepare yourself: dancers Emilio Dosal and Kelsey Landers teamed up for a modern pas de deux set to the Boyce Avenue cover of the Sam Smith hit that somehow brings a whole new element of heartache and longing to the soulful track. We recommend watching with a box of tissues handy.

Exclusive: Executive producer John Legend and writer-director John Swetnam (Step Up All In and Into the Storm ) have teamed with DanceOn, the multi-channel YouTube network co-founded by Madonna, on a unique casting call for the upcoming dance pic Breaking Through. Dancers will be selected from submissions to the DanceOn site to either perform at a live taped event this month or have their videos appear in the internet generation coming-of-age drama starring Sophia Aguiar and Jordan Rodrigues.
The casting call is the first initiative in the filmmakers’ partnership with DanceOn, a YouTube network created as online community for dancers and dance lovers. DanceOn’s 10 million-plus subscribers and over 2 billion video views also mean that in addition to being a source for undiscovered talent, DanceOn is a strategic promotional partner that’ll put Breaking Through in front of its target audience early on. Who doesn't love a theme? This week, our So You Think You Can Dance competitors will dance to the music of Michael Jackson. While I am looking forward to another night of incredible performances, we will also say goodbye to two more dancers. (Sigh.)
Last time, Bridget Whitman and Emilio Dosal took a final bow as they were eliminated from the So You Think You Can Dance competition.
Will your favorite dancer be cut tonight, or will they move forward to the next round? And what will Cat Deeley wear this week? Oh, the suspense of it all!
Get ready! This is the So You Think You Can Dance live blog!

Is it just me, or do the dancers on So You Think You Can Dance get more talented each season? This was another night of fabulous performances, and we also welcomed the All-Stars back for the first time this season.
We bid farewell to Bridget Whitman and Emilio Dosal. The judges are no longer able to save any dancers, so the voting power truly is in the viewers' hands. Let's see if we can predict who may be in danger of seeing their So You Think You Can Dance journey come to an end.

So You Think You Can Dance fans, I have a dilemma.
For much of Wednesday’s Top 10 performance show — which paired each finalist with an All-Star dancer from seasons past — I couldn’t quite decide whether the Top 10 were put at an advantage or disadvantage by dancing with Sytycd vets.
Take, for example, what I considered tonight’s most entertaining routine: a fun hip-hop number between Jessica Richens and her All-Star companion, Twitch. On her own, Jessica did an excellent job with the fast-paced routine (and started to break away from the idea that she can only excel at jazz...

Tonight's elimination/performances show, kicked off with the remaining contestants rocking out another group performance choreographed by Jamal Sims to the song: “Bang Bang” by Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj. After that, Host Cat Deeley revealed that all the contestants would be partnered with returning All-Stars this week. After an introduction of the judges, the contestants served up their performances. Each contestant was told if they had landed in the bottom 2 guys or girls before they danced. Bridget Whitman and Brandon Bryant performed a Bollywood routine. Tanisha Belnap and Ryan Di Lello danced the Argentine Tango. Emilio Dosal and Jasmine Harper performed some Hip Hop. Valerie Rockey and Ade Obayomi performed Jazz. Rudy Abreu and Jenna Johnson performed the Cha Cha. Jacque LeWarne and Chehon Wespi-Tschopp performed Contemporary. Ricky Ubeda and Lauren Froderman performed a Jazz routine. Casey Askew and Kathryn McCormick performed a Broadway routine. Jessica Richens...

How can I adequately express my feelings about So You Think You Can Dance‘s Top 14 performance show? Allow me to take a cue from Paramore’s Hayley Williams: “After all this time, I’m still into you.”
Okay, okay, I realize that’s cheesy. But let’s face it: During the 120 minutes allotted for Wednesday’s episode, it was hard not to be legitimately frustrated that this gem of a reality competition series so often flies under the radar, when even in its 11th season, performers are still earning three-judge standing O’s (and millions from viewers’ living rooms,...

I know it’s early into Season 11, but I’m not sure So You Think You Can Dance‘s effervescent Rudy can do any wrong.
Ok, maybe he should consider a 10 percent reduction in wide-eyed golly gee-ness when he gets positive feedback from the judges — it’s sometimes a fine line between wicked heartthrob and ventriloquist’s dummy — but you’ve got to admit he’s as loveable as a teacup chihuahua peeking out from a cashmere blanket (or a newborn kitten cradled in an endive leaf, if you’re not really into canines).

Spolier alert: I’m not going to complain about Nigel Lythgoe taketh-ing away So You Think You Can Dance‘s crucial “fight for your existence” solo round during tonight’s Top 20 performance episode (Part Deux).
Granted, I reserve the right to kvetch, moan and grumble about this questionable omission until at least the end of July, but for now, allow me to focus on the positive and give the executive producer props for giveth-ing us the greatest guest judge in So You Think You Can Dance‘s 11-season history: Misty Copeland.

You’re only as strong as your weakest samba roll — or so the old saying goes (kinda sorta).
And that’s why So You Think You Can Dance fans have been eagerly awaiting news of the show’s Season 11 Top 20 pairings.

After last week’s “Meet the Top 20″ telecast — in which every contestant was paired up with someone from the same style, and then given a routine in their own genre — tonight’s telecast (8/7c on Fox) will push the dancers outside their comfort zones.
