Written and directed by Anderson Cowan (Everybody Dies), Groupers is a comedy-drama about a student in grad-school who abducts a couple of homophobes to use as subjects in her experiment, an experiment that she conducts at the bottom of am empty swimming pool.
Now, this is an easy movie to spoil and I don’t really want to do that, so I’ll avoid any major reveals or spoilers in this review. I went in to this with a real sense of intrigue, wondering how a plot that seemed fairly slim would work as a 110 minute movie. The film introduces us to Dylan (Cameron Duckett) and Brad (Peter Mayer-Klepchick), who, while out for a night of boozing and attempted sexual experiences,...

Screen Anarchy has an exclusive preview clip to share with you from Anderson Cowan's dark comedy Groupers. Two all-American high school jocks Brad and Dylan (Peter Mayer-Klepchick and Cameron Duckett) are out for a night on the town when they are approached by the beautiful and seductive Meg (Nicole Dambro) at a local bar. Ready for what they hope will be a night to remember, the guys are subsequently kidnapped, drugged and awaken tied up face to face in an abandoned pool in the middle of nowhere. Absurdity and insanity ensue as we learn that Orin (Jesse Pudles), Meg’s overly flamboyant brother has been the target of Brad and Dylan’s homophobic bullying and that Meg is actually a grad student who plans to perform...

The Axiom will be going to Cannes. This prestigious film festival begins in just a few days. As well, this supernatural thriller is being repped by sales agent Devilworks. In the film, a young woman struggles to find her sister. She is lost in "a multi-dimensional world full of monsters" (Devilworks). The Axiom stars: William Kircher (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey), Nicole Dambro (Pitchfork) Hattie Smith, Zac Titus and many others. A preview of the film's festival premiere is hosted here. A trailer, for The Axiom, was released late, last year. It shows Mckenzie (Smith) near a National forest. She searches for her sister. But, a strange assortment of creatures hound her at every turn. Devilworks will be taking at least six films to Cannes. The full slate includes: The Axiom, Canaries, The Restaurant, Sick for Toys and Strange Nature. All of these films show at Cannes, beginning this May 8th.

With the new slasher style horror Pitchfork selected to play at the Horror-on-Sea Film Festival on Friday 19th January. I got chance to ask actor Daniel Wilkinson about; preparing to play the role of Ben Holister Jr. / Pitchfork, what makes his character stand out so much in the genre as a horror icon and his favourite scene in the film.
What can we expect from the film Pitchfork?
This generation’s horror film. It’s an homage that plays to millennials.
Can you tell me a little bit about your character?
There’s a lot more behind the mask. The subtleties. The story behind the story to really shape the trilogy.
How did you become involved in the film?
Nicole Dambro put in a good word for me. I spoke with Glenn Packard (the Director) and loved how much passion and soul he was bringing to it. Realised I was...

Starring Hattie Smith, Zac Titus, Nicole Dambro Directed by Nicholas Woods The Axiom is an ambitious, well directed, impressively acted and stunningly shot independent horror film that has just a few, teensy little flaws holding it back from greatness (and therefore will have to settle for just being really, really good, instead). The Axiom Impressions: The Axiom is a deeply intriguing vessel that explores familiar waters in the most creative ways possible.
Written and Directed by Nicholas Woods, The Axiom stars Hattie Smith, Zac Titus, Nicole Dambro, Taylor Flowers, and Michael Peter Harrison. It follows a group of friends who get tricked into going into the woods to rescue McKenzie's (Hattie Smith) sister, who mysteriously disappeared in those same woods. Once in the wilderness, the gang slowly discovers that not only are they not alone, but that they may have entered another dimension.
There is a lot to unpack when discussing this film, so let's start with the axiom itself. It is an opening to other worlds much more terrifying than our own,...

I love slasher films. I always have. In fact, I would say that it is the slasher, more than almost any other subgenre, that has defined me as a horror fan. As a fan, my reverence for these oft-maligned films knows no bounds and I find great comfort in revisiting them over and over.
However, as a film-maker, the prospect of actually making a slasher film terrifies me. As much as I want to believe that there is new ground just waiting to be broken, I struggle to see what can still be done with the slasher film. I approach every new entry with the hope that I will find something new, something that...

An eye-opening, or should I say door-opening, Q&A with the director of Never Open the Door courtesy of our very own Derek Anderson kicks off today's Horror Highlights! Also, we have trailers for both Pitchfork and Red Hollow and a call for submissions for Popcorn Fright Film Festival 2017.
Never Open the Door Q&A: Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Vito. When did you first come up with the idea for Never Open the Door?
Vito Trabucco: Thanks for having me. The idea first came from Chris Maltauro, my producer and co-writer, our camera operator Mike Bates, and me one night in a parking lot when we wrapped on another shoot. A few months prior I completed my first feature, Bloody Bloody Bible Camp. We were just eager to do another one.
Where did filming take place and what did that environment add...
