"Vanishing Point" isn't exactly a mainstream classic, but for a portion of moviegoers who like to see cars go fast and people do drugs, it's pretty much unmissable. Based on that description alone, it makes sense that the cult film's audience grew when it was directly referenced in Quentin Tarantino's 2007 road slasher film "Death Proof." Other directors who are major fans of the film include Edgar Wright and Steven Spielberg, who once told Entertainment Weekly it was one of his favorite movies.
The 1971 film didn't feature many stars, but did include a handful of actors who would become famous for other projects in the years following the film. Cleavon Little, who played radio DJ Super Soul in the film, went on to star in Mel Brooks' "Blazing Saddles" three years later, while actress Charlotte Rampling, who was Oscar nominated for her work in "45 Years" in 2016, apparently appeared as...

The copyright battle over Road House and this year’s remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Conor McGregor has turned into a full-on bare-knuckle legal brawl.
If R. Lance Hill, who penned the original 1986 script under the moniker David Lee Henry, thought in his February filing that he was going to bop Amazon Studios, MGM Studios and United Artists over “blatant copyright infringement” – he just got smacked back, hard.
“Plaintiff’s Complaint ignores the well-established rule of copyright law that the author of a work made for hire is not the individual who created the work,” declares the counterclaim filing by Amazon Studios, MGM and United Artists in federal court on May 3 (read it here).

Miss Minnie Bouvèé (Eric Swanson) is no stranger to death, but as New Orleans’ Mob Queen of the Quarter, usually she’s the one wielding the Grim Reaper’s scythe instead of being on the receiving end of its unforgiving blade. Among the dozen Emmy Awards “Game of Thrones” collected in 2019 for its final season was one for casting, which made it the first drama program to achieve a third victory in that category. Each time it was honored there, it also won Best Drama Series, setting a precedent that “Succession” could emulate this year after having taken both prizes in 2020 and 2022. Although it is heavily favored to clinch the top honor again, its potential casting win might not come as easily or at all, given the remarkably stiff competition it faces from “The White Lotus.”
After winning 10 Emmys in 2022 while classified as a limited series, “The White Lotus” is now competing in seven specific drama series categories, including casting. Its genre shift was triggered by its second season’s incorporation of previously established characters. As it goes against “Succession” in this race, it will also have to fend off two-time winner “The Crown,...

Tori Amos is honoring the legacy of Sinéad O’Connor the way she knows best: performing a few of her songs. During her show on Wednesday night, hours after O’Connor’s death, in San Francisco, the songstress performed O’Connor’s tracks “I Am Stretched on Your Grave” and “Three Babies.”
She described O’Connor as “one of the most important songwriters” that has lived as she honored her for warning the world about the abuses of the Catholic church. “This is a person who was powerful, who wrote incredible music,...

Tori Amos, like many of us, is mourning Sinead O’Connor, who died on Wednesday (July 26th) at the age of 56. During her show in San Francisco that evening, Amos paid tribute to the Irish icon by covering two of her songs, “I Am Stretched on Your Grave” and “Three Babies.”
“This is a person who’s powerful, who wrote incredible music, and we honor her tonight,” Amos said ahead of performing her own song “Crucify,” also praising O’Connor for her speaking out against abuse in the Catholic church.
Amos later went into “I Am Stretched on Your Grave.” While the original is backed by a soulful, peppy beat, Amos’ rendition featured only her and her piano, making it feel particularly ominous. She then seamlessly transitioned into a faithful version of “Three Babies”; both songs were originally featured on O’Connor’s 1990 breakout album I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got.

In a statement cited by Irish broadcaster Rte, the singer's family said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinead. Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.” O'Connor was propelled to worldwide fame by the Prince cover ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’, which won the 1990 Billboard Music Awards for Best Single in the World. The string-accompanied ballad topped the music charts from Europe to Australia. Early in her set at Los Angeles’s Greek Theatre, Tori Amos reminds the star-studded audience—including Olivia Rodrigo, Kumail Nanjiani, and Kristen Schaal, among others—that the songs from her solo debut, 1992’s Little Earthquakes, were written not too far away from Griffith Park’s historic amphitheater. The implication, of course, is that we’ve come a long way, boy. More than 30 years later, the singer-songwriter is still performing for adoring crowds of thousands, many of whom, as teens or young adults, trauma-bonded over songs like “Me and a Gun” and “Silent All These Years” but are now a little grayer around the temples.
Amos herself doesn’t look much different, wildly whipping her crimson hair around as she precariously straddles the stool between her Bösendorfer and electric keyboard. Her voice, however, is noticeably hoarse—a fact that she doesn’t acknowledge aside from a brief moment when, during the second verse of “Crucify,...

Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman’s Theater Camp suggests Christopher Guest’s Waiting for Guffman as made by, and starring, theater brats. The largely improvised film also lovingly lampoons the more ridiculous and high-strung tendencies of overly serious community theater types, but does so with an earnest gusto that quickly becomes tiresome.
Guest’s 1996 film is populated by a murderer’s row of skilled improvisers whose work, even at its most over the top, feels effortless, with a lived-in quality that grounds the absurdity in a heightened yet recognizable reality. By contrast, Theater Camp’s comedy mostly comes across as forced and laborious, which makes watching the film, at times, feel like sitting through extended acting exercises where everyone is giving it 110% every take.
Adapted from Lieberman’s 2020 short of the same name, Theater Camp grew out of co-writers Gordon, Lieberman, Ben Platt, and Noah Galvin’s desire to, per Gordon,...

‘Theater Camp’ Review: Song, Dance, and an Adorable and Clever New Entry Into the Mockumentary Canon
Editor’s note: This review was originally published at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. Searchlight Pictures releases the film in theaters on Friday, July 14.
Real summer camp buffs have this saying: “10 for 2,” meaning they spend 10 months out of the year looking forward to the two they will spend at summer camp. For some people, summer camp is their true home, the one place they can really be themselves, a treat that makes the real world bearable. For the kids (and adults) of Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman’s charming and hilarious “Theater Camp,” it’s also a place where they can hone their craft without the prying eyes of the decidedly non-theatrical in their lives.
Cleverly conceived of as a mockumentary, “Theater Camp” picks up as our unnamed (and unseen) filmmakers are just a day into production. Their plan: follow a summer at “AdirondACTS,” an upstate New York theater camp run...

Contains Massive Spoilers For The Traitors
As all reality TV connaisseurs know, some of the best drama you can find on TV is not just in police procedurals, heists or Upside Downs; it is with real people living their lives (in front of the cameras) or real people in extraordinary situations (also in front of a camera).
The Traitors is a contender for the best TV drama and best comedy of the year. It is a perfect combination of paranoia, misplaced arrogance, over-the-top reactions, distrust, intrigue and ridiculousness. It is escapism in one of the best forms possible. The tension felt watching the roundtables on The Traitors rivals what I felt watching the last two episodes of Apple TV+’s Severance (honestly).

When Blumhouse dropped the trailer for the new killer doll movie "M3GAN," the internet exploded. The film sees producer James Wan and writer Akela Cooper reuniting following their bonkers horror fever dream "Malignant," bringing on New Zealand director Gerard Johnstone to tell the story of a roboticist named Gemma (Allison Williams), who gifts her recently orphaned niece Cady (Violet McGraw) a life-like A.I. doll meant to serve as a de facto best friend and babysitter. Unfortunately, as any killer doll story could have predicted, M3GAN has more than just playtime on her mind. Whether it's the dead-eyed dance moves or the fact the doll looks upsettingly close to the Renesmee Cullen robot baby of the "Twilight" films, people can't stop talking about "M3GAN" having the potential to be the next "Malignant."
Don't get it twisted, Wan and Cooper truly made something magical with last year's most-talked-about horror film, but...

In a career that has spanned six decades, John Amos has had memorable roles on acclaimed television shows like The West Wing and The Mary Tyler Moore Show. However, the show he’s probably best remembered for was part of Norman Lear’s stable of shows in the 1970s — Good Times, a show about a struggling Black family living in the inner city. When it started out, the show was remarkable for the way it dealt with real-life topics, which made Amos extremely proud to be a part of it. We’ve spoken to Amos many times over the years, and he explained to us why he loved the show so much early on, but why the catch phrase “Dy-no-mite” literally killed him on the show. The History Channel’s first season of the Alone spinoff, Alone: Frozen, continues with episode three – “The Edge.” Airing August 25, 2022, episode three begins with five former Alone contestants remaining in the quest for the 500,000 prize. Anyone who makes it to Day 50 will take home a share of the pot.
Episode three takes the action in the frigid Labrador wilderness from six days into the competition through the 10th. At the start of the episode, it appeared that many of the remaining survivalists were so cold, hungry, and miserable that they were ready to tap out. But by the time the episode wrapped up, four continued in the challenge.
