Olivia Macklin and Dylan McTee are set to lead Paul Etheredge’s paranormal parenting thriller “Psychopomp” alongside Shawnee Smith, Avangeline Friedlander and Lily D. Moore.
The horror will spotlight Macklin and McTee as a couple who foster a “mute orphan” (portrayed by Friedlander). The child, however, has endured a calamitous past that will haunt the family.
“This act of love turns to horror when they find themselves besieged by a terrifying entity intent on destroying this newfound family from within,” reads the film’s official logline.
Macklin is best known for her role as Madre in the television miniseries “The Young Pope.” Additionally, she has starred in “Pretty Smart” and “Christmas Always Finds Its Way.” She’ll be seen next in Richard Lagravense’s “A Family Affair” led by Joey King, Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron.

It will be news to most that Wrong Turn 6: Last Resort was released back in 2014. The cannibal caper was so exhausted that just one critic slated it on Rotten Tomatoes – no one else could be bothered. It appeared to be the series’ swan song, adding a final 90 minutes to what had become a slideshow of murder, with characters and narrative a total afterthought. Instead, the filmmakers explored what it looks like when you drill someone’s torso with a garden auger, or how much blood sprays when you run them over with a snow blower. For Wrong Turn 6, director Valeri Milev made his mark on the oeuvre by showing what happens when you perform a colonoscopy with a fire hose, riffing on the petrol pump meets human esophagus moment in 2011’s Inbred.
What next for a series that has done it all? To continue killing people with garden tools...

"Descendants of these people are still living up their on the mountain?" Signature Entertainment in the UK has released a new UK trailer for the backwoods horror thriller titled Wrong Turn, from filmmaker Mike P. Nelson. We featured the full US trailer a month ago. Technically speaking, this is actually the seventh film in the Wrong Turn franchise, despite the same title. This time around, friends hiking the Appalachian Trail are confronted by "The Foundation", a cult community of killers who have lived in the mountains for hundreds of years. Suddenly under siege, Jen and her group of friends seem headed right to the point of no return. Starring Charlotte Vega, Adain Bradley, Bill Sage, Emma Dumont, Dylan McTee, Daisy Head, Tim DeZarn, as well as Matthew Modine. This is a much better trailer than the other one, way more intense and more footage of the freaky stuff that happens in the woods.

"We don't bother them, and they don't bother us." Saban Films has released an official trailer for an indie backwoods horror thriller titled Wrong Turn, from filmmaker Mike P. Nelson. Not to be confused with an entirely separate horror franchise also known as Wrong Turn - though this is actually the seventh film in that very franchise. The original title is Wrong Turn: The Foundation, but they went with that trend of "let's just use the title of the original film all over again." This time around, friends hiking the Appalachian Trail are confronted by "The Foundation", a community of killers who have lived in the mountains for hundreds of years. Here’s the trailer for the new Wrong Turn:
Backwoods terror and never-jangling suspense meet when Jen (Charlotte Vega) and a group of friends set out to hike the Appalachian Trail. Despite warnings to stick to the trail, the hikers stray off course—and cross into land inhabited by The Foundation, a hidden community of mountain dwellers who use deadly means to protect their way of life. Suddenly under siege, Jen and her friends seem headed to the point of no return— unless Jen’s father (Golden Globe® nominee Matthew Modine) can reach them in time.

In 2003, a group of friends took a Wrong Turn on a back-road and ran into a group of cannibalistic inbred mountain men. The slasher film went on to spawn a series of five direct-to-video sequels (the first of which remains a favourite of mine) but the time has finally arrived for a reboot. Saban Films have released the first trailer for Wrong Turn, a reimagining of the long-running franchise that stars Charlotte Vega, Adain Bradley, Bill Sage, Emma Dumont, Dylan McTee, Daisy Head, Tim DeZarn, and…...

After almost 20 years, the Wrong Turn franchise is returning to theaters. 2003’s Eliza Dushku-fronted slasher flick became a sleeper hit that spawned five – yes, five – straight-to-dvd sequels. The last installment released back in 2014, but the series has been rebooted now and you can catch the seventh entry next month.
In 2021’s Wrong Turn, Charlotte Vega stars as Jen, who embarks on a hike along the Appalachian Trail with her friends. Unfortunately, and despite dire warnings to stick to the path, the gang soon veers off course and crosses into the land belonging to The Foundation, a hidden community of mountain dwellers who will protect their way of life at any cost. Will Jen’s father (Stranger Things star Matthew Modine) be able to reach them in time?

Since the first one came out in 2003, we've seen six movies released in the Wrong Turn franchise (with Joe Lynch's Wrong Turn 2: Dead End still one of my favorite horror sequels ever), and early next year the cannibal franchise will be rebooted with a new Wrong Turn, which is teased in its official trailer ahead of its January release.
Directed by Mike P. Nelson from a screenplay by Alan B. McElroy (writer of 2003's Wrong Turn), the new Wrong Turn stars Charlotte Vega, Adain Bradley, Bill Sage, Emma Dumont, Dylan McTee, Daisy Head, Tim DeZarn, and Matthew Modine.
The trailer (see below) was exclusively debuted by Entertainment Weekly's Clark Collis, who reports that the film will be released for one night only in theaters on January 26th via Saban Films and Fathom Events.

The Wrong Turn franchise hasn’t ever been a well respected horror series, but it has shown itself to be pretty sustainable over the years, delivering a total of six films between 2003 and 2014. Now, the carnage will continue with yet another outing currently in production.
Yes, as you may’ve heard, Constantin Film – the studio behind the Resident Evil movies – is bringing us a new chapter in this series that revolves around an inbred family of cannibalistic mountain men from West Virginia. Mike P. The immediate impact The Wind had on me was that incredible score. It lead to this brief exchange with my partner after the first ten minutes or so of the movie:
My partner: “It’s a bit loud. I’ve got my headphones on and I can still hear it.”

Feature debut from director Emma Tammi and writer Teresa Sutherland, The Wind is a period horror set in the Western frontier of late 1800s America. Lizzie (Caitlin Gerard) and her husband Isaac (Ashley Zukerman) are a married couple eking out a frugal life on the plains when another couple move into the abandoned farm nearby. Emma (Julia Goldani Telles) and Gideon (Dylan McTee) are city folk attempting to start a new life - hopelessly unprepared, they begin to rely on Lizzie and her husband for support. This intrusion deepens the already troubled Lizzie's state of mind; she believes the area to be haunted by a 'prairie demon', a malicious spirit which travels on the wind.

The woman walks out of the cabin, the wind whipping all around her. Her white dress is bloodied. She’s carrying a baby, which isn’t making a sound; the two men staring at her are equally silent. (We eventually hear a howl of pain coming from offscreen.) Later, we see her standing over a grave … only there isn’t an infant in the coffin, but an adult female. The men finish burying her, then they saddle up the horses and leave for what may be a days-long trip. She’s left standing there,...

A suicide. A stillborn baby. A woman holding the latter as she leaves the former to show her husband and the now widower father the results of the harrowing night thus far kept off-screen. We hear the wind blowing as the camera pushes in towards Lizzy Macklin’s (Caitlin Gerard) haunted face in silent shock. Only after she washes the blood from her body and sees Isaac (Ashley Zukerman) place her rifle against the table does she speak and only after mother and child are buried do we finally start to receive some answers. Isaac is taking Gideon (Dylan McTee) back to the city so he can settle his affairs and let his wife Emma’s (Julia Goldani Telles) family know what occurred. This leaves Lizzy alone to remember everything.

The gloomy isolation of homemaking females has long been a significant topic across various genres in cinema, depicted in domestic dramas like Chantal Akerman’s “Jeanne Dielman” and in psychodramas like Todd Haynes’ “Safe.” With her debut feature “The Wind,” a psychedelic yet baggy period-horror film, director Emma Tammi assertively carries this female-focused subject matter over to one of the most masculine of genres, the Western, with technical panache yet mixed dramatic results.
A respectable addition to the growing group of female-led Westerns of recent vintage — including “Meek’s Cutoff,” “The Homesman” and “Jane Got a Gun” — Tammi’s supernatural thriller unearths claustrophobic fears amid vast, deserted landscapes and attempts to portray symbolically the multitude of forces, otherworldly and otherwise, that aim to paralyze abandoned women. It’s a compelling package substantiated by dedicated performances and top-notch below-the-line craftwork, yet sadly bogged down by a disorderly narrative structure that works...

Premiering in the Midnight Madness section of the Toronto International Film Festival before stopping by Fantastic Fest, Emma Tammi’s directorial debut The Wind will arrive next month. Ahead of the April release, IFC Midnight has now released the first trailer.

“This place is wrong.” In Emma Tammi’s directorial debut, the aptly titled “The Wind,” it’s a literal place that seems to be the root of festering madness, as a group of hardy settlers contend with a terrifying environment that may hold some real monsters. Or does it?

Isolated from civilization in a desolate wilderness where the wind never stops howling, she begins to sense a sinister presence that seems to be borne of the land itself, an overwhelming dread that her husband (Ashley Zukerman) dismisses as superstition. The Western frontier was a hard place to live but for a woman living alone, it could prove to be too much. This is the theme at the centre of Emma Tammi's The Wind.
Caitlin Gerard (Insidious: The Last Key) stars as Lizzy, a young woman living alone on the frontier in the late 1800s, driven to madness by the isolation and hardship of the rough surroundings. The desolation proves to be too much and she comes to believe that the wind brings evil with it.
In addition to Gerard, the movie also stars Julia Goldani Telles and Dylan McTee as the Harpers, a young couple who moves into the adjacent property.

IFC Midnight is acquiring U.S. distribution rights to Emma Tammi’s supernatural Western “The Wind,” following its world premiere at Midnight Madness at the Toronto Film Festival.
The film is produced by Soapbox Films and Divide/Conquer. Tammi directed from a script by Teresa Sutherland in an exploration of domestic solitude, conjuring an indescribable spectre that seems to emanate from the abyss of the night itself. “The Wind” stars Caitlin Gerard, Julia Goldani Telles, Ashley Zukerman, Dylan McTee, and Miles Anderson.
Jessica Kiang gave the film a positive review for Variety: “A convincingly feminist melding of western legend and cabin-in-the-woods horror, but not in the way one might initially think, ‘The Wind’ doesn’t seek to make infallible heroes of its women, but to understand and empathize with even their most unforgivable acts. And it’s a hugely promising debut in terms of Tammi’s steady, assured directorial craft.

The doorway shot in John Ford’s “The Searchers” is one of the most influential cinematic frames of all time. But it’s not often we really parse the meaning of that iconic image, or seek to understand the way it has shaped our understanding of the western as an outdoorsy, masculine genre. Emma Tammi’s feature debut, a clever if low-boil horror-western, provokes such ruminations by being, essentially, a reverse of that shot: Instead of our eye following John Wayne walking off into a bright rectangle of scrubby land framed by the dark silhouette of a cabin doorway, “The Wind” imagines a Wild West where the man walks off into darkness and we stay inside the brightly lit cabin, where the women are.
That’s not to suggest there’s anything cozily domestic about Tammi’s vision of the feminine West. In fact, in “The Wind,” the agoraphobic lonesomeness...

"I don't suspect God has much business out here." An official festival trailer has arrived for a western horror film titled The Wind, which just premiered at the Toronto Film Festival this weekend in the Midnight Madness category. The supernatural thriller is set in the western frontier of the late 1800s, following a plains-woman driven mad by the harshness and isolation of the untamed land. Starring Caitlin Gerard, Julia Goldani Telles, Ashley Zukerman, Miles Anderson, and Dylan McTee. Described by Tiff as a "nightmarish yet empathetic exploration of domestic solitude, skilfully conjuring — in bone-chilling visual and sonic strokes — an indescribable spectre that seems to emanate from the abysses of the night itself." Oh my. How's that for a pitch? The reviews have been good so far, it looks like a horror film to keep an eye on. Here's the first festival trailer (+ poster) for Emma Tammi's The Wind, direct...

Exclusive: First, there was Earthquake. Then there was Twister and after that was The Mist. Now there’s The Wind — but the thriller isn’t your basic weather/natural disaster pic.
Making its World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in the Midnight Madness section, the film is a genre mashup of a supernatural thriller and a Western. The trailer above unravels to reveal that there is something odd and spooky going on with the wind on a frontier in the late 1800s. Caitlin Gerard (Insidious: The Last Key) stars as a gun-toting plains-woman who is slowly driven mad by new neighbors, isolation, the harshness of the untamed land, and, of course, the wind, which is more than just an element of weather. It’s pretty much the boogeyman in this movie.

"Is there anything you've done that would make someone come after you?" IFC Midnight has debuted the official trailer for a Hitchcockian thriller titled Midnighters, the feature directorial debut of editor Julius Ramsay (of work on shows like "The Walking Dead", "Battlestar Galactica", "Flashforward"). Midnighters is about a couple in a strained marriage who face the ultimate test after they cover up a terrible crime and find themselves entangled in a Hitchcockian web of deceit and madness on New Year's Eve. The film stars Alex Essoe and Dylan McTee, along with Perla Haney-Jardine, Ward Horton, Andrew Rothenberg, and Joseph Anderson. This looks a bit odd, but it might be creepy & thrilling. The film "offers a layered, enigmatic thriller set in the Gothic backwoods of New England – the perfect place to get away with murder." Here's the official Us trailer (+ poster) for Julius Ramsay's Midnighters, direct from IFC's YouTube: A...

Back in June, the 2017 Los Angeles Film Festival took over Southern California, hosting screenings at numerous locations and featuring numerous genre films that horror and sci-fi fans should definitely keep on their radars in the coming months. Here are my thoughts on three of the movies that I had the opportunity to watch at the festival:
Replace: As far genre feature film debuts go, co-writer/director Norbert Keil has a lot to be proud of with Replace, a stunning and beautifully executed cinematic mystery that’s part body horror/part psychological thriller. Something of a hallucinatory fever dream at times, Keil has crafted an intriguing and chilling portrait of just how far some folks are willing to go in the name of vanity, and the whole affair is anchored by a trio of powerhouse performances by Rebecca Forsythe, Barbara Crampton, and Lucie Aron.
