Szu-Wei Chen is a writer/director from Taiwan and earned his MFA from Columbia University's Graduate Film program. Having grown up with an interest in directors such as Edward Yang and Lou Ye, Chen is currently exploring a means to bridge the film language he grew up on with and his experiences as an international resident living in the US. “A New Apartment” is his latest work, which is currently having its festival run, having screened at Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema and Cinequest San Jose Film Festival.

The film begins with Ms Wang, a real estate agent trying to sell an apartment to her client, Yu-Ting, a woman in her early 30s. Her efforts are crowned with success, and soon the focus changes to the new tenant, during her first day in the apartment.

The film, which premiered in Rotterdam, is being lined up for a theatrical release in late 2020 or early 2021.
Beijing-based sales agent Rediance has sold French rights to Chinese filmmaker Gao Ming’s Damp Season to Sonata Films Distribution.
The deal covers France, French-speaking Belgium, Switzerland and Luxembourg. Sonata Films plans to release the film theatrically in France in late 2020 or early 2021.
Damp Season received its world premiere at this year’s International Film Festival Rotterdam in the Bright Future main programme and has also been selected for the International Competition section of this year’s Jeonju International Film Festival (May 28- June 6) in South Korea.

A Sheng is a Taiwanese factory owner, who has remarried and settled in Beijing. His two daughters, one from each wedding, are living in the same apartment in Taiwan. When the youngest one dies, during a scuba dive with her sister, Shin, and the leader of the swimming team of their school, who is also Shin’s boyfriend, A Sheng is forced to return to Taiwan. Furthermore, the police press charges against Shin for her sister’s death. A Sheng now has to face his estranged daughter, his ex-wife, the death of his youngest, and the rage of his current wife, who is convinced that Shin is responsible and is willing to go to extremes to make her pay.
