This may be the most unpredictable Emmy race in years, particularly on the drama side. “Stranger Things” and “Veep” lead the Emmy odds according to the prognosticators at Gold Derby, but don’t count out shows like “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Black-ish” and “Atlanta.” At least, that’s the takeaway from a handful of writers, producers and directors who agreed to anonymously share their Emmy ballots with IndieWire.
Not that this year’s picks were easy to make. “I watch a lot of TV,” said one writer. “And yet there is not a single category where I have seen every nominee. Seems impossible to judge — and crazy to think a winner is actually the best, rather than just the best of what most people have seen.”
That’s the high-class problem of Peak TV, and why outlets like HBO and Netflix spend handsomely on For Your Consideration campaigns. That’s...

At its peak, The Office was arguably the best television comedy of all time. That is something that deserves to be celebrated in grand fashion, and that is exactly what the writers did in the series "Finale."
While also being funny and wrapping up every single character arc, the over 92 minutes of run time of retrospective and final ep did a tremendous job of honoring this fantastic series, and hitting nearly every emotional beat the audience could have asked for.
We will never get to see Jim prank Dwight again. We will never again witness Kevin say something so completely idiotic that you have to scratch your head. We will never feel the uncomfortable joy of Michael interacting with other human beings. But at this moment, after watching how much these professionals, and the characters they played, poured into The Office over the last nine years, we'd be selfish to ask for any more.

"The Office" ended its eight-year run on Thursday night, in a cute finale that saw the wedding of a fan favorite couple, the return of Michael Scott and a perfect sendoff for the rest of the Dunder Mifflin crew. So, how'd it all end? See our favorite moments from the series finale below. 1.) Michael Scott is back! Steve Carell returned for the show's final episode, staying to the sidelines but still packing an emotional punch. The former Dunder Mifflin boss returned for Dwight Schrute's wedding -- popping up to help Jim Halpert (John Krasinski) with the "Best Prank Ever."It was sweet to see him interact with his former coworkers. And while Holly (Amy Ryan) didn't come with him, we learned the couple now have a couple kids of their own and Michael's a very proud papa -- so proud he needs two phones because he's taken so many photos of them.

Hippos and rhinos and donkeys, oh my. It took a wide assortment of exotic animals to doom Winnie Sung and Pam Chien on Sunday night's "The Amazing Race," but the quotable duo admits without hesitation that they have nobody to blame but themselves. After emerging as one of the season's stronger teams, winning one Leg and picking up a pair of second place finishes, Pam and Winnie struggled with an African Detour on Sunday. First they couldn't find operational donkeys for the "Brawn" side of the Detour. Then, when they switched over to the safari animal-spotting "Brains" Detour, they...

After last week's non-elimination leg, another team was cut from The Amazing Race on Sunday night. Pam Chien and Winnie Sung came in last place on the mat and were eliminated from the CBS reality competition. The best friends were strong contenders for the $1 million prize throughout the race, but they ran into trouble with a detour in Botswana that found them choosing between brains (riding a horse while trying to remember images of 10 animals in order) and brawns (coercing donkeys into pulling a load of branches and sticks). The Amazing Race Review, Season 22, Episode 7
“Be Safe and Don’t Hit a Cow”
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
In some of its best seasons, Survivor thrives on making its strong competitors look silly. Players talk about being in control and running the show, then they’re immediately booted by the “weaker” contestants. This trend rarely happens on The Amazing Race, which frequently has teams dominate the seasons. There are notable exceptions like the Beekmans’ win last season, but it isn’t uncommon to watch a team roll through challenges and stay near the top of the pack. The audience believes the smart and physically capable players will do well, especially in the race’s first half. Those expectations have been thrown out the window in the 22nd installment. John and Jessica rolled through the early episodes and then self-destructed in stupendous fashion. David and Connor were clearly...

Pam and Winnie were cruising to a second-place finish on The Amazing Race until they ran into some "stubborn asses" — or donkeys. Rather than tough it out, they switched Detours, but messed up twice when they couldn't spot an ostrich cutout on the trail and subsequently got eliminated. "We knew it was over when we got it wrong the second time," Pam tells TVGuide.com. "Everyone has that hope that some other team is behind them or someone got penalized or it's a non-elimination leg, but we knew we were last. We had wasted too much time." Find out how long the whole ordeal took and if they have any regrets.

They may not be everybody's favorite team, but even some critics found themselves feeling bad for Max & Katie on "The Amazing Race." They were the second team to fall victim to a police speed trap -- Caroline & Jennifer were stunned they couldn't talk their way out of it! -- but their car trouble didn't stop there.
After paying the ticket at the police station, Max immediately proceeded to back into a pole that was right behind the car. He was so flustered, he refused to get out and assess the damage. He simply carried on with the leg. But while Max was frustrated, HitFix noticed that Katie was having fun, at least. They wrote, "Katie was just Evil this episode. And not in a bad way. Just in an evil way. She mocked Max's driving, his ticket, his fender-bender and even his grammar and she loved every second of it.

The Amazing Race Review, Season 22, Episode 6
“Scorpion King Hunter”
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
This week’s Amazing Race opens with an apology for insensitivity towards Vietnam veterans in last week’s episode. Phil’s statement is a response to an outcry led by Fox News that included calls to boycott the series. While those claims seem over the top, it spotlights a challenge for a show that’s moving so quickly through other cultures. A downed B-52 bomber was used as the backdrop for a clue, and a goofy song described the wonders of socialism. The current version of this competition plays out so quickly and rarely takes a breath to consider whether it’s cheapening the countries on display. This standard may be unfair for a reality competition, but that’s the challenge for a show that’s using aspects of these locations. While the apology is understandable,...

The Amazing Race Review, Season 22, Episode 5
“Your Tan is Totally Cool”
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
Looking back at some of the best episodes in Amazing Race history, many of them take place in crowded cities that knock racers out of their comfort zones. Dropping teams into a foreign culture and forcing them to maneuver adds an extra layer to the challenge. This week, the remaining eight teams head to Hanoi and clearly feel the pressure of the unknown environment. With the added weight of the impending Double U-Turn on their shoulders, everyone brings their best effort to avoid last place. Well, almost everyone. Vietnam isn’t on par with India in terms of culture shock, but there are still enough obstacles to create an entertaining leg. It may not be one of the greatest episodes, but it’s easily the best of this season. The stakes feel...

The question on everybody's mind these past few weeks on "The Amazing Race," has been: just how long are Connor and Dave going to keep racing? The father-son duo has been racing with an injury for two legs, and still managed to come in first on both of those legs.
This week, however, Dave revealed that his doctor told him he needed to get in for surgery within seven days. And so they made the difficult decision to go to the mat and end their time on the race.
Buddy TV felt this entire plot was handled in a rather manipulative way. "Unless I am mistaken, this is new information, Buddy TV wrote. "Information deliberately held back by the show to make us tune in to this very unfortunate saga."
RealityWanted didn't seem bothered by the new information from that standpoint. They were just sad to see the pair go,...

The Amazing Race Review, Season 22, Episode 4
“I Love Monkeys!”
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
Only four episodes have passed, but this is shaping up to be one of the strangest installments in Amazing Race history. The season began with three teams quitting a Roadblock and was followed by a pair giving up due to a fear of water. David and Connor still win the two-part leg despite the fact that David has a ruptured Achilles. All of these are crazy examples, but they pale in comparison to the baffling conclusion this week. John and Jessica have clearly been one of the strongest teams in this competition. He seems bored by just avoiding elimination and has been focusing on alliances and other strategy. They earned the Express Pass in the opening week, but it ends up being the crutch that spells their downfall. The key with this reward is...

The Amazing Race Review, Season 22, Episode 2
“Loose Lips Sink Ships”
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
When did taking the penalty become so common on The Amazing Race? Two episodes into this season, players seem very interested in avoiding tasks. Idries and Jamil barely slip into the water and they’re ready to take a six-hour penalty. Their fear of water and limited swimming abilities make diving for pearls nearly impossible. While their struggles are understandable, they seem far too willing to give up right away. They eventually give the Detour a shot, but it’s their passive approach that raises warning signs. By the time they switch to the other option, the gap is too large. Apparently, picking them to win the race was not a wise idea. They’re hardly the only players who struggle, however. Three teams took a penalty last week, and several others grumble through this leg.

While teams race around the world, CBS is hoping that this reality competion will win the ratings race -- or at least win its timeslot. Will the network renew The Amazing Race for another cycle? We'll have to wait and see.
Hosted by Phil Keoghan, The Amazing Race typically airs on Sunday nights on CBS. There are usually about 12 episodes. This season's contestants include twin doctors Idries Abdur-Rahman and Jamil Abdur-Rahman, newlyweds Max Bichler and Katie Bichler, roller derby moms Mona Egender and Beth Bandimere, hockey brothers Bates Battaglia and Anthony Battaglia, married couple Chuck McCall and Wynona McCall, cancer surviving father/son David O’Leary and Connor O’Leary, country singers Caroline Cutbirth and Jennifer Kuhle, YouTube hosts Joey Graceffa and Meghan Camarena, best friends Pamela Chien and Winnie Sung, daters Jessica Hoel and John Erck, and firefighters Matthew Davis and Daniel Moss.

The Amazing Race Review, Season 22, Episode 1
“Business in the Front, Party in the Back”
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
Each new premiere of The Amazing Race brings its own share of excitement and questions. Will the cast have exciting characters? Will the challenges stand apart from the standard formula? Will the producers offer new twists that change the game? All three of these boxes haven’t been checked as often in recent seasons. There have been thrilling challenges and standout players, yet the results have been inconsistent. This new group is filled with lively teams that have their own unique stories, but the challenges dominate the opener. A brutal Roadblock pushes three pairs to take a four-hour penalty and choose a dangerous boat race to the Pit Stop. While the risk pays off for two of them, it sends firefighters Matthew and Daniel right to elimination. The well-meaning...

Amazing Race 22 Preview
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
Premieres February 17
Can The Amazing Race still be surprising? With the long-running reality competition entering its 22nd season, the chance for major changes seems unlikely. There will be unpredictable moments, but the overall structure remains the same. The producers have tried to throw in new twists to liven up the game, but they’re one-time events that rarely make a dent. For example, last season upped the ante to $2 million, but only for the team that won the opening leg. Once Abbie and Ryan left the game, that move disappeared from memory.
Even without structural changes, there’s still plenty to like with this show. It’s consistently entertaining and sends its 11 teams through difficult challenges all over the world. The set-up is so good that it’s impossible not to wish for the best from every season. So much...
