Tracy Chapman has seen a meteoric rise in streams of her song “Fast Car” in the days following her appearance at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
According to Billboard, “Fast Car” has experienced a 241% increase in streams from and a 38,000% (!) increase in sales.
“Fast Car” initially experienced renewed interest last year when Luke Combs covered the song. The cover peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, surpassing the original song’s peak position at No. 6 in 1988. The cover’s success on the country music charts made Tracy Chapman the first Black woman to have the sole songwriting credit on a No.1 country hit.
At last weekend’s Grammys, Chapman made a rare public appearance to perform “Fast Car” with Combs. The performance went quickly viral, fueling even more interest in both Combs’ cover as well as Chapman’s original.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Grammys producer Ben Winston said Chapman’s performance was months in making.

The 2024 Grammys will inspire a good deal of next-day debate among viewers. And that debate will be over: Which was the more moving comeback performance, Tracy Chapman’s or Joni Mitchell’s?
Life is good — and awards shows better than they have a right to be — when the hot post-telecast topic is which legend most tugged at our heartstrings with an unexpected return to the television spotlight. A huge reason why the 66th annual show will likely be considered the best Grammys in several years is the one-two punch of Mitchell and Chapman — the two artists the world was most eager to see come back from distressingly long sabbaticals. Exec producer Ben Winston’s success in landing both in one year provided a level of sentiment unlikely to be matched in any Grammys telecast soon, short of the producers convincing Bobbie Gentry she needs to un-retire and do the show,...

Celine Dion, the five-time Grammy-winning and multi-platinum-selling artist, stunned Grammy viewers during the telecast Sunday night. It was Dion’s first public appearance since she revealed she was diagnosed with the rare disease known as Stiff-Person Syndrome in December 2022.
Dion was welcomed with great fanfare at Crypto.com arena to present the award for Album of the Year, which went to Taylor Swift for “Midnights.”
Grammy producer Ben Winston teased that he had an ace up his sleeve in an interview before the show, telling CNN that “[the final presenter is] an absolute global icon. I think jaws will drop to the floor. People will be on their feet.” He added, “The only condition they gave is that it was a surprise.”

The series, which launches on November 9, is produced by Noah’s Day Zero Productions, Fulwell 73 Productions, which produced The Late Late Show with James Corden with CBS Studios, and Audacy’s Pineapple Street Studios.
But it’s not the first time the former late-night host and former late-night showrunner have teamed up; Winston has exec produced the Grammys with Noah as host.
What Now? with Trevor Noah will see the South African comedian interview entertainers, CEOs, actors, athletes, and “thought leaders” and Spotify promises that these conversations will be “full of radical candor, authentic back-and-forths, and honest reactions”.

In one shot, the pair appear in coordinating black ensembles as they hold pieces from the heritage-infused Gucci Savoy collection. In a video, the pair hold the lux luggage as they walk side-by-side through the airport. The Kardashians Season 4 is here, and fans are anxious to know more about Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner’s relationship. Nobody expected the actor and the celebrity to get together, especially considering Chalamet prefers to live outside the limelight. And that’s precisely why fans shouldn’t expect to see Chalamet starring in The Kardashians Season 4.
Timothée Chalamet likely won’t appear alongside Kylie Jenner in ‘The Kardashians’ Season 4
Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner are going strong with their relationship as The Kardashians Season 4 airs. Jenner split from her long-term on-and-off boyfriend, Travis Scott, in January 2023, and she reportedly met Chalamet the same month. Rumors of a potential relationship between the actor and celebrity started brewing in April 2023. Finally, by September 2023, everyone knew the two were falling in love. Chalamet and Jenner publicly made out at Beyoncé’s birthday concert.
Chalamet and Jenner are getting more comfortable with the idea of showing public affection.

In an interview with Et Canada ahead of Thursday’s season premiere, which featured a heated argument between Kim and Kourtney Kardashian, executive producer of “The Kardashians” Ben Winston discussed the season’s most shocking, humorous and heartwarming moments.
Despite the fact that the two looked to have resolved their fashion-related argument last season, a heated phone chat soon results in Kourtney making a defiant declaration: “You’re a witch and I hate you.”
“When we started filming the fourth season, they were deep into watching cuts of season 3 and watching the cuts was affecting them more than the argument ever did,” Winston tells Et. “We’d dealt with that issue at the end of season 3, then it blew up on a bigger scale. On one hand, you think you’ve moved past that, but in season 4 it’s probably our most dramatic scene of that entire storyline.”

James Corden has given more insight into how Tom Cruise persuaded him to join him in a fighter jet for a “The Late Late Show” sketch.
“A few days before [the flight] I had a genuine worry,” he said during a Q&a session at the Royal Television Society conference in Cambridge, U.K. on Thursday afternoon. “I ended up going, like, ‘He’s an actor, he’s Not a pilot.’ Like, respectfully, it’s just the two of us in an airplane. If something happens then we die.”
“And worse than my own death is my children growing up and people going ‘Their dad killed Tom Cruise,’” he added.
Corden said that he tried to back out of the stunt when Cruise called him and said: “James, your life is more valuable than mine. You’re not in danger.”
In a wide-ranging chat, Corden also discussed his strategy when he first...

The 2023 edition of the Edinburgh TV Festival is drawing to a close after four days of intense industry talks, gossip and Louis Theroux lectures. The halls of the Edinburgh International Conference Centre were buzzing as UK execs, creatives and talent took the chance to get together and talk shop. Here we outline six key themes that emerged.
“Ripple effect” of the strikes
No TV industry confab would be complete at present without a bit of strike chatter. As the writers strike moves way beyond 100 days and the actors’ action rumbles on, the “ripple effects” continue to be felt around the world, according to Lindsay Salt, the BBC’s new Drama Director. There was a small American presence at Edinburgh plus numerous UK commmissioners from the U.S. streamers’ hubs but, somewhat surprisingly, the labor action was not raised during panel sessions with both Netflix and Disney execs. Universal’s Pearlena Igbokwe,...

The Late Late Show with James Corden showrunner Ben Winston has revealed how unexpected impacts of the labor strikes cost his production company an unscripted series greenlight.
In a wide-ranging interview with Richard Bacon at the Edinburgh TV Festival, Winston said he believed effects of the actors and writers strike were now filtering into unscripted commissioning. This was because studios and streamers are unsure of their overall budgets until new deals are struck with actors and writers unions, meaning spending on original series of any genre is an added risk.
“We were named as a company that would do well during the strikes because we’re known for unscripted, but it hasn’t been the case in any way,” said Winston, who runs UK-u.S. producer Fulwell73 with partners including The Late, Late Show presenter and actor James Corden.

Sometimes you meet someone in this business and within minutes you immediately understand why they are so successful. Ben Winston, a producer, director and co-founder of the production entity Fulwell 73 is absolutely one of those people. Over the span of 12 years he’s gone from producing the Brit Awards in his native England to moving to America to guide the “The Late Late Show with James Corden” to tackling the Tony Awards, the Grammy Awards, two Adele concert tapings and music specials for One Direction, Kasey Musgrave and Bruno Mars.

At just 41, Ben Winston — the guest on this episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast — is one of the top TV producers in show business. The Brit first made his name in America eight years ago when he became the youngest EP of an American late night show ever, CBS’s The Late Late Show with James Corden, which was to be hosted by his countryman and dear friend James Corden.
Over the years since, while producing that show from its inception in 2015 through its conclusion earlier this year, Winston has, through Fulwell 73 — the company that he founded and runs with Leo Pearlman, Benjamin Turner and Gabe Turner, as well as Corden, which Variety described as “the go-to production house for A-list talent in unscripted event programming” — taken on a wide variety of other producing gigs as well. Exclusive: Rob Crabbe, who has served as exec producer on The Late Late Show with James Corden for eight years, is moving from late-night into daytime.
Crabbe has been named as showrunner and exec producer of CBS’ The Talk. He replaces Kristin Matthews, who Deadline revealed earlier today was leaving the show after 13 years.
The move will see Crabbe, who was the co-showrunner along with Ben Winston of Corden’s hit late-night show, stay in the CBS family.
Crabbe teamed with Corden and Winston on The Late Late Show in 2015 and the pair remained in charge throughout the run of the show, a rarity in late-night television. He was part of the team that landed a slew of Emmy nominations for both The Late Late Show with James Corden and Carpool Karaoke, one of the show’s breakout segments that also became a spinoff series for Apple.

Season three of The Kardashians premieres May 25 on Hulu, with all-new episodes from Fulwell 73 Productions streaming on Thursdays. There have been 10 episodes per season so far, so theoretically the new order could take the show through a season six.
Here’s the logline for the new season that features Kris Jenner, Kourtney Kardashian Barker, Kim Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner: The cameras return as Kris, Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, Kendall and Kylie invite viewers back into their lives as they navigate motherhood, coparenting, and building their own empires. Their bond will be tested and tensions arise, but as a family they will stand together through the storm.

Hulu has renewed its reality series “The Kardashians” for 20 more episodes, Disney announced during its 2023 upfront presentation. This announcement came ahead of the series’ Season 3 premiere on May 25.
It’s hardly surprising that Hulu would renew the series for more episodes. When “The Kardashians” first premiered, Season 1’s debut became the most-watched premiere in the history of Hulu. The reality show has since remained the most-watched unscripted series in the streaming service’s history.
Its third season will continue to follow Kris, Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, Kendall and Kylie as they navigate motherhood, coparenting and building their own empires. New episodes will premiere on Thnursdays.
By now, viewers know who to expect in any show about one of America’s most influential families. “The Kardashians” stars Kris Jenner, Kourtney Kardashian Barker, Kim Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner. File this one under “water is wet.”
Hulu is extending The Kardashians, handing out an order for another 20 episodes of the unscripted series featuring Kris Jenner, Kourtney Kardashian Barker, Kim Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner.
The news was formally announced during Disney’s upfront presentation to Madison Avenue ad buyers Tuesday. The pickup comes ahead of the May 25 season three return of the unscripted series from Fulwell 73’s Ben Winston, who exec produces the show alongside Emma Conway, Elizabeth Jones, showrunner Danielle King, Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Khloé Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian.
Hulu, which does not release traditional viewership data, says the series premiere of The Kardashians ranks as the most watched debut in the history of the platform and the show remains its most watched unscripted series in its history.

Ed Sheeran, who is relatively mum about his private life, is going behind-the-music in his new Disney+ docuseries, touching on subjects like grief, mental health, love and loss.
“I never wanted to make a documentary that was [focused on the] sad pop star and feel sorry for [the] sad pop star,” Sheeran said Tuesday night at the New York City premiere of Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All, which debuted Wednesday on Disney+ and follows the singer as he mourns the death of his best friend, supports his wife as she battles cancer while being pregnant and records his new album.
“What I think is really great about the documentary is the themes that it explores, everyone goes through. … Everyone goes through grief. Everyone goes through ups and downs of their mental health.”
“I know exactly what you mean, but the pop star went through some shit,” chimed in moderator and CBS This Morning host Gayle King.

The legendary Elton John had some definite ideas after making the decision to have his current epic worldwide tour be his last. He wanted to do something meaningful and emotional that was truly significant. He did just that in a historic global live streaming concert on Disney+ in November.
Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium was the result, and it returned Sir Elton to the venue he famously played early in his career in 1975, even donning a version of the Dodger uniform he wore then. John and fellow executive producers David Furnish and Ben Winston joined me at our Contenders TV Docs + Unscripted event to talk about how they pulled it all off.
“We wanted to go out with a bang,” the superstar said. “And we wanted to end in Los Angeles because my career started in America at The Troubadour in 1970. And then we did the the wonderful concert in ‘75 at Dodger Stadium.

Fair warning to certain right-wing politicians. Deadline’s Contenders Television: Documentary + Unscripted virtual event, which kicks off its 2023 edition Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. Pt, will feature the appearance of … (dramatic pause) … drag queens. Miss Isabelle Brooks and Luxx Noir London are among the RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants joining us to talk about Season 15 of the MTV unscripted series. Not only that, but Grammy-winning recording artist Lizzo – an ally of the LGBTQ+ community who boldly invited several RuPaul’s Drag Race all-stars onto the stage at her recent Nashville concert — is also coming by to spill the tea on her HBO Max film Love, Lizzo, which documents her Cuz I Love You world tour.
