Some of cinema’s most legendarily terrifying moments come from the unlikeliest of places. Whether you were inflicted with lasting trauma from a childhood favorite like Who Framed Roger Rabbit, or were scarred as an adult by that infamous Trainspotting baby, there’s a decent chance that something from outside the horror genre has given you the heebie-jeebies in the past.
For whatever reason, this was a big trend in 2022, with both film and TV offering unexpected frights. To prove just how ubiquitous it was, we’ve compiled the following list of notable examples.
It should go without saying, but there are huge spoilers ahead. Without further ado, here are the year’s scariest moments from non-horror media.
Moon Knight – Tomb Raiding
Ever since Rick O’Connell proved that mummies could be gunned down by the dozen with relative ease, the Egyptian boogeymen have been unfairly side-lined in horror. Once upon a time,...

The future is now. As of today, Nov. 1, 2019, “Blade Runner,” one of the quintessential science fiction movies of all time, is currently set in the present. The opening title card for the film begins “Los Angeles/November, 2019.” But rather than the rainy, noir hellscape that Ridley Scott imagined, 2019 Angelenos awake to a present that’s dry, hot in November and at threat of devastating wildfires. That’s not to say that “Blade Runner” is any lesser since it didn’t pick a year crazy far enough away for its reality to come true. But it’s amusing to see how these sci-fi movies have dated themselves — and in some cases even gotten some things right.
“1984” (1956)
You’ll find a recurring theme on this list is that movies whose titles are years are inherently dated. And there’s no better example of that than the adaptation of George Orwell’s dystopian...

I had initially started this review with a brief history of the place in my heart that I have for the Skyline franchise but you know what? Let me just say that I am a total sci-fi nerd, I love alien invasion film and I especially love a flick that has the balls to have insane ambition and looks to create a wide reaching universe. Skyline has always been that franchise! A franchise that knows exactly what it is and where it wants to be; a franchise that for the budget they have, always pulls out the stops and impresses from start to finish; a franchise that lets be honest doesn’t get the credit it deserves.

ComingSoon.net recently interviewed actress Emilia Clarke for the press junket for HBO’s Game Of Thrones season 6 premiere. The interviewee asked Clarke about reprising her role as Sarah Conner in future Terminator sequels.
Clarke gave an obvious:
“No” to the question and continued by saying, “Can I say that? It’s okay. No. Uh-uh. But I have some very different roles coming up.”
Paramount Pictures and Skydance Entertainment scheduled future Terminator sequels with Terminator 6 for a May 19, 2017 release date and June 29, 2018 for Terminator 7, only to remove the release dates a few months later after the low box-office numbers from last year’s Terminator: Genysis.
Terminator: Genysis only earned $89 million domestically at the box office opposed to the film grossing $350 million overseas which did not help the negative reception it received from critics and audiences alike. The terminator himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger, said recently that he was looking forward...

[Originally appeared in the September 2014 issue of Deadly Magazine] There is a scene 75 minutes into 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day, in which James Cameron pinpoints the humanity amidst all the time travel, liquid metal and state-of-the-art special effects. Young John Connor (Edward Furlong) is bonding with the T-800 machine assigned to protect him (Arnold Schwarzenegger), by teaching him how to high five. The moment is designed to underscore the father/son dynamic between John and the Terminator, as well as provide a visual symbol of the hope for mankind – that we are able to co-exist alongside technology. And, if we’re reading even more deeply, that we can still master it.
A great deal of Terminator 2’s running time is devoted to the connection between John and Schwarzenegger’s T-800. However, it’s telling that the most poignant shot – the one that says the most about their relationship – is from the perspective of John’s mother, Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton...

A few weeks ago, the film community collectively underestimated the impact that nostalgia could have at the box office. A lack of awareness of just how much audiences were ready to revisit the Jurassic Park franchise led to shock when Jurassic World began setting box office records. This week, there’s potentially another giant movie hoping to capitalize in the same way. It’s the sequel/franchise reboot Terminator Genysis, which is keen to follow in Jurassic World’s huge footsteps. This will be an interesting test of nostalgia, one that likely won’t be as huge a hit, but could still easily find a large audience nonetheless. Everyone knows the Terminator franchise (started by James Cameron, in case you somehow forgot) by now, with this one seeking to slightly rewrite the rules of the series in this fifth installment/fourth sequel. Arnold Schwarzenegger once again stars as the robot protector of Sarah Conner,...

The gang at We Are Movie Geeks is so excited for The Terminator Genisys, which opens everywhere next Wednesday July 1st. We’re so excited in fact, that we can’t stop reciting lines from the first four Terminator films. Just this morning, as my wife was leaving for work, I said “Hasta La Vista, Baby”. She smiled sweetly. And when I was talking on the phone to my mom the other day, I said “You’re terminated, f**ker!” She hung up on me. Anyway, we’ve assembled our top ten favorite lines from the Terminator franchise. Perhaps The Terminator Genisys will have a few zingers in it as well. We’ll let you know next week when we post our review here at We Are Movie Geeks.
10. “Put down your weapon. And the coffin!” – This is of course from the epic graveyard shootout in Terminator 3 – Rise Of The MacHines

When Arnie said “I’ll be back” he wasn’t kidding. Schwarzenegger is back for another go-round in Terminator Genisys.
The new film picks up with Kyle Reese (Suicide Squad’s Jai Courtney) in a new time-line where he’s left to team up with a young Sarah Conner (Emilia Clarke) and an aging Terminator called The Guardian (Schwarzenegger) to try and put a stop to Judgment Day.
Director Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) has assembled a cast that include Oscar-winner J.K. Simmons,Jason Clarke, and Dr. Who himself, Matt Smith. James Cameron, the writer and director of the original two Terminator films has given his seal of approval on the newest franchise addition as a fan boy. Claiming it’s a renaissance of the series, Cameron gets in-depth in the latest featurette, listing what worked so well in the first two films and how he sees Genysis as...

When it comes to genre films, we often know what to expect. When you sit down for a blockbuster action film you're probably after some elaborate fight scenes, extended car chases and giant explosions.
But sometimes we fancy something a bit out of the ordinary, a movie that takes your expectations and turns them completely on their head. With the arrival of Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman: The Secret Service in Sky Store, we look at some of the best genre films to think outside the box:
Kingsman: The Secret Service (spy movie)
Vaughn's Kingsman takes a leaf out of the James Bond book of spy movies, but mixes it up with a contemporary twist, imaginative action and a heavy dose of comedy.
Taron Egerton's troubled inner city kid Eggsy is far from your typical hero, and Colin Firth blew our mind in some of the most insane action sequences we've ever seen.
