Matt Bomer turned down playing Ken in 'Barbie'.Despite auditioning to play the doll in Greta Gerwig's live-action blockbuster based on the famous Mattel dolls Barbie and Ken, the 46-year-old star rejected the part, “choosing not to spend extensive time away from his family."He told Vanity Fair magazine: “I recorded it on my own, played a bunch of different Kens — and I dressed differently for all of them.“I recorded the lines of the other person’s dialogue on my recorder and then gave myself space to respond.”Ryan Gosling, 43, played stereotypical Ken in the movie and Margot Robbie, 33, played the main Barbie.Other Kens were played by Simu Liu, Chris Taylor, Tom Stourton, Rob Brydon, John Cena, Scott Evans, and Ncuti Gatwa.Luke Macfarlane, 43, also revealed he was being considered for Ken.However, landing the role of Charlie in 'Platonic' got in the way.He...

Barbie (read our review Here) is currently dominating the box office, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if it goes on to rack up some Oscar nominations as well. It seems like a lock for categories like Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, etc. Variety recently spoke to production designer Sarah Greenwood and set decorator Katie Spencer about the work they did to bring Barbie Land to the screen… and during the conversation, it was revealed that one of the locations in Barbieland was inspired by an iconic location from one of the most popular horror movies ever made: Weird Barbie’s house was inspired by the Bates house in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho (watch it Here)!
Weird Barbie’s house was one of the last sets Greenwood and Spencer worked on, and Greenwood had this to say about it: “One of my early references...

As the arthouse cinema market continues to regain its footing, the list of what may be considered an overlooked film could be quite vast, depending on one’s metrics. For our yearly feature highlighting the 50 most overlooked films––arriving before our overall top 50 films––we’ve sought to dig deep to find the gems that deserved more attention upon their initial release and have mostly been left out of year-end conversations. Hopefully, with many widely available on a variety of streaming platforms, they will begin to find an expanded audience.
Sadly, many documentaries would qualify for this list, but we stuck strictly to narrative efforts; one can instead read our rundown of the top docs here. While they aren’t included on this list, we also hope a number of 2022 qualifying films find an audience when they get a proper release next year, including Saint Omer, One Fine Morning, and Return to Seoul.

All My Friends Hate Me (Andrew Gaynord)
Pete (Tom Stourton) hasn’t seen his university mates in years. Ten years to be exact. It happens. Life happens. We reach adulthood, mature, and set goals for ourselves that the people who were closest to us during that formidable period simply cannot follow—their own ambitions lie upon different forks in the road. So resentment shouldn’t factor in. Nor should jealousy. Yet Pete can’t help wondering about both. A little voice in the back of his head wonders if a decade was too long to pretend things could pick up where they left off. Would their very posh upbringing think he abandoned them to work with refugees? Do they think he thinks...

Mate, mate. You’re not going to believe this one mate. Really mate. Andrew Gaynord, Tom Parker and Tom Stourton’s debut feature is one that’s going to stay with you. Seriously, mate. Stourton plays Pete, recently returned from doing something unspeakably worthy and charitable with children abroad, and invited to celebrate his birthday with his posh university friends in someone’s parents’ fancy country pile, and oh mate, you’re not going to believe what happens. Because as well as likeable couple George and Fig (Joshua McGuire and Georgina Campbell), cripplingly posh Archie (Graham Dickson) and delicate Claire (Antonia Clarke) there’s also Harry (Dustin Demri-Burns), a local yokel who the gang have adopted for the weekend for a laugh, and, oh mate, it’s absolutely hilair.

All My Friends Hate Me is a film that uses anxiety as a means to explore humour and horror, and is set to entertain the masses with its release this week. To mark the film’s release we had the pleasure of speaking to its co-writers, Tom Stourton and Tom Palmer – while the former also plays the leading role Pete, in the movie. We look back over their long-standing friendship, and their dynamic as a writing-duo. They tell us why they decided to star/or not star in the film, and the casting of Dustin Demri-Burns. They also speak about the film’s themes, the reactions from audiences, and the notion of privilege. Watch the full interview with both Toms below.
Synopsis
Pete is cautiously excited about reuniting with his college crew for a birthday weekend. But, one by one, his friends slowly turn against him.

Despite their undoubted comedy talents Tom Palmer and Tom Stourton’s debut feature feels too light on the funny to live up to its potential
Tom Palmer and Tom Stourton made their names as the comedy double-act Totally Tom who went viral some years ago with their (very funny) creation High Renaissance Man, about clueless public schoolboys at uni, but their jointly scripted debut feature film, directed by Andrew Gaynord (from TV’s Stath Lets Flats) is a weirdly unrelaxed dark satire.

BFI has launched a new trailer for the dark British comedy ‘All My Friends Hate Me.’
Pete (Tom Stourton) is ready to leave his youthful indulgences behind and settle down with his girlfriend, Sonia (Charly Clive). When his uni friends invite him for a country weekend away to celebrate his birthday, he finds their immature ways haven’t changed. And he’s baffled by their spontaneous invitation to a feral stranger from the local pub to join them. With the atmosphere turning from tense to terrifying to surreal, Pete reaches breaking point. Is he being punished? Is he being paranoid? Or is he just part of some sick joke?
Directed by BAFTA-nominated Andrew Gaynord (Stath Lets Flats), the film also stars Dustin Demri-Burns, Joshua McGuire, Georgina Campbell, Graham Dickson, and Christopher Fairbank, Antonia Clarke and Kieran Hodgson.

"All My Friends Hate Me" is an anxiety film. Anyone who's ever felt out of place among a group of strangers -- or even worse, a group of friends or family members -- will recognize the social anxiety on full display in the low-key horror-comedy. In the film, Pete (Tom Stourton) goes on a weekend getaway with friends from college, but they no longer relate like they used to. Things get awkward and far worse from there.
Co-writers Tom Stourton and Tom Palmer crafted a story that keeps an audience on its toes. Even when nothing out of the ordinary or...

‘All My Friends Hate Me’ Review: Scary-Funny British Satire Unpacks the Anxieties of Old Friendships
A scary-funny British satire that cringes in horror at the all too familiar sort of affluent, over-educated millennials who are somehow both self-obsessed and deeply ashamed of themselves at the same time,
Its story hinges on a simple notion about the unnatural forces that might compel a 31-year-old neurotic like Pete (co-writer Tom Stourton) to keep even his most toxic college friendships on life support: He’s mortified about the man he used to be, but the only people who can let him off the hook are the ones who knew him back then. They’re the only ones who might be able to appreciate how much he’s changed. So while Pete is plenty amped up for the rural getaway that his old chums have planned for his birthday — only real ’90s kids will fully understand how funny it is when he blasts “Sandstorm” by Darude to get the...

"Everyone's being mean, and I don't know what's going on..." Super Ltd has revealed an official trailer for a UK horror comedy film titled All My Friends Hate Me, marking the feature debut of director Andrew Gaynord. This premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last year, and stopped by the London Film Festival in the fall. Pete is cautiously excited about reuniting with his college crew for a birthday weekend. From co-writers Tom Stourton and Tom Palmer comes this dark comedy-horror mash-up for anyone who's ever experienced social anxiety and lived to tell about it. Terrifying! Tom Stourton stars along with Georgina Campbell, Joshua McGuire, Antonia Clarke, Charly Clive, Kieran Hodgson, Dustin Demri-Burns, Christopher Fairbank, and Graham Dickson. Cary Joji Fukunaga’s long awaited Bond flick “No Time to Die,” the final instalment featuring long-time lead Daniel Craig, will close this year’s EnergaCamerimage International Film Festival, presented by Joji Fukunaga (“Beasts of No Nation”) himself and the film’s Oscar-winning cinematographer Lunus Sandgren (“La La Land”).
“This is the first time Cary Joji Fukunaga and Linus Sandgren collaborated on a film project, yet the result is just the kind of visual spectacle we hoped for given their artistic portfolios,” said the festival in a release accompanying the announcement.
This will be Joji Fukunaga’s first time attending EnergaCamerimage in person, although his film “Jane Eyre” and the “True Detective” pilot episode he directed both screened at the fest. Sandgren is becoming something of an EnergaCamerimage regular, having presented in person two films on which he worked, Damien Chazelle’s “La La Land” and “First Man.”

Imagine the protagonist of a Richard Curtis film woke up on the morning of whichever wedding or funeral they were to attend, suddenly cursed with self-awareness. The resulting movie, a comedy that elicits such bone-deep cringe it’s indistinguishable from horror, might look a lot like Andrew Gaynord’s “All My Friends Hate Me,” a ferociously witty, deeply British evisceration of upper-class Millennial anxiety, dedicated to the truism that if you can’t spot the asshole in any group of five or more people, the asshole is you.

The festival has ditched the word “film” from its title in order to emphasize the fact that Tribeca now encompasses podcasting, gaming, TV and so much more. But who are they kidding? For most New Yorkers, it’s all about the movies. With that in mind, here are 11 films that should be on every festival-goer’s must-see list.
12 Mighty Orphans
Director: Ty Roberts
Cast: Luke Wilson, Vinessa Shaw, Martin Sheen, Robert Duvall, Wayne Knight, Jake Austin Walker
Meet your next uplifting sports drama. In the tradition of “Rudy” or “Hoosiers” comes “12 Mighty Orphans,” the story of the Mighty Mites, the football team of a Fort Worth orphanage who became unlikely Texas state championship contenders. In the process, their plucky come-from-nowhere run inspired a country reeling from the Great Depression.

Production is under way on Altitude Film Entertainment and Citrus Films’ family movie Horrible Histories: The Movie – Rotten Romans, based on the popular children’s book series by Terry Deary and illustrated by Martin Brown.
Shooting now on location in the UK and Bulgaria, the film will cast the antics of the Roman Empire in a comedic light. It will follow Atti, a Roman teenager with brains but very little brawn. When one of his clever schemes falls foul of Emperor Nero, he is forced to join the army and is sent to miserable, cold, wet Britain where the natives are revolting – quite literally. Things go from bad to worse when Atti is captured by Orla, a feisty teenage Celt desperate to prove herself as a warrior.
Dominic Brigstocke, director of the TV version of the series, will make his feature directorial debut. Script comes from Jessica Swale together with Giles Pilbrow and Caroline Norris.

Maisie Williams is to appear in the new series of Doctor Who.
The Game of Thrones actress will guest star in an episode of the sci-fi drama when it returns for its ninth run in the autumn.
Williams, whose role has not yet been revealed, said: "I'm so excited to be working on Doctor Who as it's such a big and important part of British culture.
"I can't wait to meet the cast and crew and start filming, especially as we'll be shooting not too far from my home town."
Showrunner Steven Moffat added: "We're thrilled to have Maisie Williams joining us on Doctor Who. It's not possible to say too much about who or what she's playing, but she is going to challenge the Doctor in very unexpected ways.
"This time he might just be out of his depth, and we know Maisie is going to give him exactly the right sort of hell.

Siblings is to return for a second series on BBC Three.
Charlotte Ritchie and Tom Stourton star in the comedy as Hannah and Dan, 'the world's worst brother and sister'.
News of the show's re-commission comes ahead of series one's final episode, which will air tomorrow night (Thursday, September 11) at 10.30pm.
"We've been delighted by how much audiences have enjoyed Dan and Hannah's horrendous and hilarious antics - as played so brilliantly by Tom and Charlotte," said executive producer Simon Wilson.
"We're thrilled the BBC are giving us another chance to unleash the calamitous duo on a whole new set of victims."
Chris Sussman, Comedy Commissioner, added: "Siblings is horrible and brilliant at the same time. Each episode is like a mini-movie, with Dan and Hannah finding new and terrible ways to ruin other people's lives. I can't wait to see what mischief the writers cook up for series two.

An Always Sunny-ish new sitcom on BBC Three? Sign us up. Here's Jake's review of Siblings episode 1...
This review contains spoilers.
When you think of most classic sitcom setups, the common theme is of people trapped together against their will. Steptoe And Son, Porridge (literally in that case) and Red Dwarf all explore the relationships of people who have no choice but to spend time in each other's company. Siblings takes a slightly different tack, Hannah and Dan are stuck with each other because no one else in their right mind would want them.
Siblings set up is as simple as its title - brother and sister duo Hannah and Dan are horrible, self obsessed people with practically zero redeeming qualities. Played by Fresh Meat's Charlotte Ritchie and Totally Tom's Tom Stourton, they go through life with zero self awareness or shame, thinking only of themselves. In this...

Look, we all know the sibling bond is rather... special. And that's precisely what BBC Three's brand new comedy Siblings - starring Fresh Meat's Charlotte Ritchie and Live at the Electric's Tom Stourton - is banking on! We caught up with the duo recently to find out nine things about the show...
1. These characters are awful people.
"My first instincts were that I didn't know how to do the character, and the character was not very nice," Charlotte said. "But in the end I really enjoyed that. My first instinct was that they were really awful people." And Tom added: "You wouldn't want to be friends with these two, they'd ruin you."
"They'd let you down at every turn," Charlotte agreed. "But that was my first thought - 'Oh no, they're awful, but also this is probably quite a fun thing to do'."
2. The sibling bond came pretty easy to Charlotte and Tom.
