Exclusive: The TV pilot scheme that unearthed Disney+ hit Extraordinary is launching a funded development slate to help shepherd projects without agency representation from script to screen.
From this year, the best scripts from the Thousand Films and Grey Seal Media program will make their way onto the in-house slate, with Thousand signing former Knight Hall agent Katie Langridge to spearhead the drive.
Charles Dawson’s Thousand and advisor Grey Seal’s program launched in 2019 for UK and Irish scripts from up-and-coming writers, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds. Emma Moran’s Extraordinary, which launched on Disney+ in January and has already been recommissioned, is the most high-profile to come from the program.
Thousand Films accepts scripts from all writers without agency representation, but has established a ‘benchmark’ reading process, in which new writers’ work is blindly assessed alongside a sample of professional writers’ scripts. Since launch, it has shortlisted writers...

Exclusive: Here’s the striking first official image of Kate Winslet as Lee Miller in feature Lee.
The image, shot during filming on location in Croatia, shows Oscar winner Winslet as the pioneering American photographer who covered WWII in Europe for British Vogue.
Filming is ongoing on the directorial debut of respected cinematographer Ellen Kuras (Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind).
The film is not being called a biopic by Winslet and the producers, but it does explore the most significant decade of Lee Miller’s life. As a middle-aged woman, she refused to be remembered as a model and male artists’ muse and defied expectations by travelling to Europe to report from the frontline. There, in part as a reaction to her own well-hidden trauma, she used her Rolleiflex camera to give a voice to the voiceless. What Lee captured on film in Dachau and throughout Europe was shocking and horrific.

It is Shoebox Films and Sonia Friedman Productions film for BBC Two and BBC Film.
Horgan features as a refugee charity worker, while McAvoy plays a self-employed, self-made man who runs a boutique computing consultancy. Athur is their 10-year-old son and is the one thing that has kept his parents’ relationship together.

“Wayne” star Ciara Bravo is set to co-star with Tom Holland in Anthony and Joe Russo’s next film, “Cherry,” the sibling duo’s follow-up to the massive hit “Avengers: Endgame.”
The remaining ensemble includes “It” star Bill Skarsgard, Jack Reynor, Forrest Goodluck, Jeff Wahlberg, Michael Gandolfini and Kyle Harvey. The Russo brothers will direct the adaptation of Nico Walker’s New York Times bestselling novel. Production is currently under way.
“We were drawn to ‘Cherry’ given our personal experience from Cleveland, as well as the important need to share stories like these. We shot the exteriors for ‘Winter Soldier’ here, we are excited to return home to our roots,” said Anthony and Joe Russo.
