Inspired by U.S. teen dramas such as “Gossip Girl,” “Made in Chelsea” was originally conceived in 2011 as a reality TV series chronicling the lives of wealthy 20-somethings in one of London’s most upmarket districts.
Ten years and 22 seasons later, the show — which airs on Channel 4’s digital channel E4 in the U.K. and on streamer hayu in the U.S. — has acquired soap status among audiences young and old, who still tune in to watch cast-members (many of whom are now 30-somethings) as they grapple with not only make-ups and break-ups but also weddings, childbirth and even death.
“The show started off being about dating and friendship — that is its foundation — but it’s about a whole lot more now basically,” says David Granger, an executive producer on “Made in Chelsea” and co-founder of Monkey Kingdom, which makes the show.

It’s a theme that runs throughout this satire of the super-rich, and specifically a fictionalized version of British billionaire highstreet fashion tycoon Philip Green.

Made in Chelsea will be back for its tenth series soon - which means plenty more rumours will be flying around the streets of London again. But perhaps not the ones featured in the bonkers new trailer for the show:
The promo sees the Chelsea gang engaging in plenty of gossiping... but have they actually stumbled on to some truths about notorious bad boy Spencer Matthews?
What's more, the trailer features the full return of Ollie Locke, who came back in the final episode of Made in Chelsea: La, but he's not alone - is Richard Dinan returning for another series of the E4 hit?
Oh, and Jamie Laing is dressed as a lemon, because... well, why not?
Speaking of Spencer Matthews rumours, some reports had suggested that he would be leaving Made in Chelsea... but Laing told Digital Spy recently that he hasn't heard anything about that. Phew.

Made in Chelsea: La is brightening up E4 on Monday nights - and star Jamie Laing wants to head down under for the show's next transatlantic spinoff.
Laing told Digital Spy that he wants to follow up trips to La and New York with Made in Chelsea: Australia.
"I'd love to try out Sydney!" he admitted. "Made in Chelsea: Australia would be hilarious - all of us surfing and catching octopuses!"
Former Made in Chelsea cast member Ollie Locke will return to the show in the final La episode - and Laing also revealed that he wants classic cast members Caggie Dunlop and Francis Boulle to follow suit.
"Caggie's awesome - I always see her," he said. "Francis is actually at a gold mine in Ghana at the moment, which is hilarious.

Don't panic, Made in Chelsea fans - Spencer Matthews might not be quitting the show after all.
Reports last week claimed that mischievous Spencer would exit the E4 reality series to star in his own show.
But when Digital Spy spoke to Spenny's no.1 boi Jamie Laing, he told us that he doesn't think the rumours are true.
"I don't think Spenny's going - I don't know where that came from," Jamie said. "He's my best buddy and he hasn't mentioned anything to me.
"There's always talk about people going. Someone says it, and then it spreads like wildfire."
The next series of Made in Chelsea will be down two of its stars though, with both Andy Jordan and Stevie Johnson leaving the series.
Jamie is staying put though, telling us that he has no plans to leave: "I would never say, 'I'm quitting - that's it, I'm done with it!

Life may be imitating art in tonight's episode of Made in Chelsea: La, if Jamie Laing's date is anything to go by.
Jamie will take his 1,348th love interest Naz out for a date, heading to the cinema and pondering when two people should share their first kiss. Classic move, boi.
Jamie is clearly not taking his time in moving on after his failed relationship with Jess, swooping in with La resident Naz, and she seems equally smitten with him.
In case you were wondering, the obvious product placement for Cara Delevingne's new film Paper Towns was deliberate, too.
Channel 4 has announced a partnership with Fox, meaning they can show Jamie and Naz's exclusive private screening of the romantic drama during the episode.
Meanwhile, Ollie Locke has confirmed that he will return to Made in Chelsea during the La spinoff series.

Ollie Locke is returning to Made in Chelsea and we are feeling very excited about it.
Locke - known for his Union Flag car and jacket and his penchant for fake tan - left Made in Chelsea after five series so that he could appear on Celebrity Big Brother in January 2014.
Made in Chelsea La has started! The 10 best bits from the premiere
But he's been spending time with the MiC cast in the City of Angels this summer and will be seen in the final episode of Made in Chelsea: La.
We don't know too much about what he's up to yet, though E4 revealed that we'll see him welcoming his bestie Binky Felstead back to Britain.
Still, E4 also said that he is "sure to bring some drama and mischief".

Ben Fogle has signed up to host BBC Two's new "global fishing competition" The Big Fish.
The new series will see eight amateur anglers from the UK battling it out to prove their fishing prowess in front of judge Matt Hayes.
The contestants will travel across four continents and will visit a different country in each week's show to become immersed in local fishing techniques. They will be judged both by Hayes and a local specialist.
"I'm really thrilled to be a part of the series to see how these fantastic fishermen get on in some really tough places, learning to fish the way the locals do and facing some pretty extreme water around the world," Fogle said.
"We will be immersed in the countries we are staying in and will hopefully come face to face with some phenomenal fish."

Made in Chelsea's ninth series sadly came to an end on E4 last night (boo), but the closing credits gave us an exciting glimpse of its summer spin-off series set in Los Angeles.
If the La series is anywhere near as fun as last year's NYC stint, it's going to be another American adventure full of squabbles, flirting and potential new relationships. Here are a few things we definitely want to see happening when it returns:
1. Alik reuniting with Louise
Ok, Los Angeles might be quite far away from New York, but surely we'll see some kind of reunion between Alik and Louise? Despite parting ways last week, their relationship remains intact and it is a must to see the Fonz-wannabe coming back. Any excuse to see him arrive in his leather jacket shouting "hey babe!" really.
2. The return of Carson
The Seann William Scott lookalike was a breath...

Channel 5 has unveiled the brand new eye logo for Celebrity Big Brother.
The new logo features a starry eye in the form of a paparazzo's camera.
The 14th edition of Celebrity Big Brother will begin in mid-August after the current 'civilian' version has concluded, with a live launch show hosted by Emma Willis.
Channel 5 has promised a "glamorous VIP makeover" for the house, but also warned its celebrity contestants that they "should be prepared for countless twists, turns and tough tasks guaranteed to cause drama and tension from day one".
Rumoured contestants have included George Gilbey from Gogglebox, Misfits actress Lauren Socha, Eurovision champion Conchita Wurst and Benefits Street's White Dee.
X Factor winner James Arthur recently revealed that he had turned down an offer to appear on the show.
Jim Davidson won the previous edition of the series in January, beating Ollie Locke and Dappy in the final.

Olympics star and former Strictly Come Dancing champion Louis Smith is left red-faced on this week's episode of Viral Tap, when the show reveals that it had a clip of him auditioning on The X Factor.
Smith was turned down by Simon Cowell on The X Factor - and it's clearly not a moment that Smith enjoys reliving or sharing with the world.
The gymnast threatens a walk-out when host Caroline Flack says that she's going to show the clip, and Smith tells the team that he will turn over the table if it's aired.
Having watching Louis Smith's audition (see below), it's easy to understand why he might not to be too happy about people seeing it.
Viral Tap airs on Sunday (June 15) on ITV.
Smith joins regular panelists Matt Richardson and Carly Smallman and special guest, Made In Chelsea star Ollie Locke.
