Xiaomeng ZHOU, born in the capital of China only 2kms from the
Forbidden City, in a Hutong, living in a 9m2 little house with her
grandmother just a thin wall next to her's, till the family had enough
money to purchase, with the help of the bank of course, when she was
13, a decent 3 rooms apartment in another district not far from the
CBD area. Mostly influenced by American culture and in favor of a high
school life in USA as teen since deeply impressed by several exchange
programs with Newton North High school, in her 12 years student life at
Beijing Jingshan School, (From 1994 to 2006) Preparing then at a summer
camp for her SAT, dreaming of getting herself into UCLA or NYU since
her favorite directors and producers were there. Yet her journalist
father spoke out about his preference of France, also imprinted by his
own college life as a language auto formed student major in French
Litterature at Beijing University, his memory of La nouvelle vague, the
family finally decided to send her to Paris for her studies to become
an assistant director, even though her longtime dream was to become a
writer and director, at Conservatoire Libre Du Cinema Francais located
at 9, Quai de l'Oise just around the corner of Canal St. Martin in the
19th Arrondissement.
And that was for a whole 6 years of her life from 19 to 25, till the family, again, as traditional as it could be, still in today's modern China, wanted her back to get married with a selected one and have a decent career in Beijing, her hometown where her father, after a failure of his 4 years of Enterprise building called "CCnetTV", Xiaomeng's father became an established professor and the head art dealer of a Traditional art academy in China. Having tried different lives and careers in Paris, without really finding her own place, Xiaomeng got back into the capital and decided to follow her father and meanwhile kept writing poems and looking for new opportunities and sponsors in Film industry also in Art dealing field, which she was passionated already as a graduated from high school after working with Artists such as Huang Rui ( She got an internship to be the adjoint manager for special events departments at Thinkinghands agency) and her meeting with Ai weiwei at his Three Shadows atelier thanked to a French artist named Lallemand Seba and her protector Raluca Riquet, was indeed a turning point of her life, at age 18, in the famous Beijing 798 art zone (as DaShanzi at that epoque)
Now based in Beijing and still living with her parents, she travels a great deal in Mainland China and overseas in order to meet new people, especially artists and independent filmmakers to team up for their common dreams and ambitions for a changing of the society and the conditions of human beings.
