New Delhi, March 2 (Ians) Alvaro Rodriguez was the name on the lips of all Real Madrid fans this weekend, despite playing less than 20 minutes in Madrid Derby draw against Atletico de Madrid.
After marking his debut last weekend with an assist in Los Blancos’ 2-0 win at CA Osasuna, Alvaro scored his first Laliga Santander goal this weekend against Real Madrid’s city rivals no less, just as a certain Raul Gonzalez did almost 30 years ago back in 1994, salvaging a hard-fought point for Carlo Ancelotti’s side and keeping the title race alive.
Alvaro’s headed goal made him the youngest goalscorer in the history of the Madrid Derby in the 21st century (18 years 226 days), beating out Gonzalo Higuaín’s record (19 years 76 days) which had stood since February 2007 but still behind Raul, who’s debut goal for the club came in a derby clash at the age of just 17 years and 131 days.

Doha, Dec 14 (Ians) While leading Argentina to the final of the FIFA World Cup with a 3-0 victory over Croatia, Lionel Messi has inched a step closer to fulfilling his biggest dream — adding the World Cup crown to the dozens of titles he has won in club cricket.
The 35-year-old scored a goal in the match through a penalty, which is his fifth in Qatar 2022.
In the process of taking Argentina to the final, Messi set many records and also set himself up for bettering more marks in international football and FIFA World Cup when Argentina take on the winner of the second semifinal between France and Morocco.
Messi is one of only six men to have played in five World Cups alongside Antonio Carbajal, Lothar Matthaus, Rafa Marquez, Andres Guardado and Cristiano Ronaldo, according to a report on fifa.com website.

Miami, Oct 4 (Ians) Inter Miami striker Gonzalo Higuain has announced he will retire from professional football at the end of the current US Major League Soccer (Mls) season.
The 34-year-old will play at least two more regular season games and the playoffs, which are scheduled to run until November.
“After the most wonderful career I could have had, I feel that football has given me so much,” Higuain told reporters on Monday. “Many thanks to those who have always believed in me … the time has come to say goodbye.”
After a poor start to the 2022 Mls campaign, Higuain has scored 10 goals in his last 11 outings, taking his league tally to 14 in 26 games, reports Xinhua.
Higuain, who was capped 75 times and scored 31 goals for Argentina, expressed hope that the announcement would provide added motivation for the Florida-based club to win its maiden Mls title.

Every four years we get a world cup and every four years Nike will go head to head with Adidas to see who can create the best advert ahead of one of the biggest commercial events in the world. Adidas have some catching up to do with this Nike advert which features multiple famous football players and one very famous Avengers. Wonder what the licence deal with Disney was to get Hulk in there?!
Anyway, enjoy the four minutes of this little beauty. Kudos Nike! (p.s. yes this post has pretty much nothing to do with movies but it’s darn cool!)
Featuring: Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar Jr., Wayne Rooney, Zlatan Ibrahimović, Gerard Piqué, Gonzalo Higuaín, Mario Götze, Eden Hazard, Thiago Silva, Andrea Pirlo, David Luiz, Andrés Iniesta, Thibaut Courtois, and Tim Howard.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is confident he will land Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney this summer and will not sign anybody else this month, according to the Telegraph.
Mourinho is convinced Rooney will be his player by the end of the season and will not sign a January ‘stop-gap’ in the meantime after rejecting a string of forwards offered to him this window.
The Blue’s obvious need for extra firepower has led to a number of scouts and agents sending in dossiers and reports to the Stamford Bridge club on a variety of different attacking options.
But Mourinho has shown little interest in the alternatives put before him and will instead hold out for Rooney, with the 28-year-old’s contract running out fast.
The situation could change should injury arise or one of Diego Costa of Atletico Madrid, Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuaín or Monaco’s Radamel Falcao become available,...
