It felt somewhat fitting that we sat down with filmmakers, and friends, Adam Deacon and Jazzie Zonzolo, on World Mental Health Day, for their latest film, Sumotherhood, undercuts the overstated comedy and criminality, with some profound messages about reaching out.
Deacon, who has spoken out about his own issues in the past, talks to the importance of injecting conversations of this nature into his feature, while both he and Zonzolo speak about their friendship and how they came to know and work with one another. They also talk about the cameos in the film, in how they got Ed Sheeran to, well, poo in a bush – and even more surprising: how they got Jeremy Corbyn to say ‘wasteman’.

Semi-sequel to the spoof gangland tale muddles comic capers with extreme violence and it’s not helped by a cameo from ‘Crack Ed’ Sheeran
When Adam Deacon sent up the turgid inner-city dramas Kidulthood and Adulthood with his 2011 comedy Anuvahood, he was dissing the hand that fed him: Deacon was one of the stars of the earlier Noel Clarke-penned films, which made it all the more frustrating that none of his barbs hit their target. His aim in the intervening 12 years hasn’t noticeably improved. This new semi-sequel, set in a modern-day London awash with guns and gangs, reunites the earlier picture’s writing duo Deacon and Michael Vu, who are joined by Jazzie Zonzolo, and brings back several cast members. Among them is Richie Campbell, reprising his performance as a lisping thug and still shouting his lines in a bid to make them funny. It’s a tactic...

Nicolas Cage has owned a number of animals, including a rare two-headed gopher snake named Harvey. While the actor ultimately donated the snake to the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans, Cage felt he had to purchase him after a dream. The dream did not feature snakes, but it did make Harvey’s appearance in his life feel fated.
Nicolas Cage spent $80,000 on a snake
One night, Cage dreamt of a two-headed eagle. The very next day, he received a call about a two-headed snake, and he knew he had to jump on the offer. Per GQ, Cage purchased Harvey for $80,000.

Per People, Harvey had a condition called bicephaly. Many snakes with this condition die before hatching, and few survive to adulthood. Harvey, by contrast, grew to adulthood with full use of both heads, “although one was clearly more dominant than the other. Although Harvey had two separate brains,...

The first episode actually begins in the distant past, following a young girl named Vueko who escaped her abusive guardian and joined an expedition of pilgrims called the Ganja led by Wazukyan and Belaf to search for the mythical Golden City at the bottom of the Abyss. The design here is a bit blunter and the colors less vivid, something that actually happens each time this timeline appears throughout the series, but thankfully, the present retains the excellent visuals of the overall series. As is usually the case with movies spawning from anime series, “Dawn of the Deep Soul” is essentially a longer episode with better production values. At the same time, though, since the movie is actually part of the canon of the series and not a separate episode, the quality of both story and artform is at least on the same level with the impressive series, even expanding some of its most crucial elements.
Riko, Reg and their new friend Nanachi, after the events involving the first and Mitty, continue their journey down the Abyss and arrive in the 5th layer. However, in order to proceed, they must ask permission from a notorious White Whistle, Bondrewd the Novel, who was actually the man responsible for the state Nanachi and Mitty were in. As it is widely known, Studio Ghibli has been impacting the anime industry rather significantly throughout the years, with some specific elements, such as the relationship with nature and using kids to comment on rather serious topics. being the most widely implemented. “Made in Abyss” is another of these titles, which goes though, into more mature territory, particularly after a point, when violence becomes a factor. Initially a manga series written and illustrated by Akihito Tsukushi, it then became an anime series and a movie, a video game, while a live-action adaptation is in the works.

A gentle stillness revives itself at the end and beginning of every breath, its vibrancy tangible when tuned into its frequency at each precise moment. It is a calmness, a small measure of peace, seldom found under the neon buzz of a megacity such as Tokyo or any given metropolis around the globe wherever the urban frenzy is ceaseless. Life far removed from time's boorish grasp – its frantic march toward the inevitable, its relentless demand for toil and progress – finds a gentler purpose: an opportunity for spiritual detoxification, a glimmer of strength to face the past head-on. For lurking in the periphery, obscured by shadow, are the ghosts and demons in constant pursuit, and no amount of running can keep them at bay forever. In “Side by Side”, Chihiro Ito painstakingly curates this serene tapestry in which Kentaro Sakaguchi's Miyama eschews his trauma and makes his escape.
