Landman: Production begins on the Paramount+ series from Taylor Sheridan starring Billy Bob Thornton
Just as Yellowstone will end with the hit drama’s fifth season, Taylor Sheridan is teaming up with Billy Bob Thornton for Landman, an original drama series created by Sheridan and Christian Wallace. Paramount+ announced today that production for Landman is officially underway with a new photo from the set.
In the image, you can see a Landman-branded clapper resting against a wall of rusted barrels. It’s a simple photo with rustic vibes to match Sheridan’s signature entertainment brand. Production is happening in Fort Worth, Texas, with MTV Entertainment Studios producing alongside 101 Studios and Sheridan’s Bosque Ranch Productions exclusively for Paramount+.
“Set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas, Landman is a modern-day tale of fortune seeking in the world of oil rigs,” says today’s official press release. “Based on the notable 11-part podcast “Boomtown,” the series is an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks...

The current iteration of Yellowstone has a timeline for its final episodes — but two more spinoffs of the Paramount Network hit are in the offing.
The second half of Yellowstone’s fifth season, which will close the book on the current Dutton family saga, is set to premiere in November 2024. The final episodes had been slated for late this year, but the writers and actors strikes meant an end to production.
The two spinoffs in the works are a present-day story with the working title of 2024 and another prequel, 1944, that will follow in the footsteps of 1883 and 1923. As with the previous series, the two spinoffs will be produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios.
“Within five years, we grew Yellowstone from a hit U.S. cable show with 5 million viewers into a global hit franchise with over 100 million fans around the world and multiple extensions — and we’re just getting started,...

The final episodes of “Yellowstone” are now slated to air in November 2024.
In addition, Paramount has greenlit two new spinoff series — “1944” and a contemporary series currently titled “2024.” As with the flagship show, the new shows are produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios.
It was announced in May that Taylor Sheridan’s megahit Paramount Network series “Yellowstone” would be ending with its fifth season. Paramount had announced prior to that the fifth season would be split into two parts. The first eight episodes aired from November 2022-January 2023. The show has been unable to return to production since due to the writers’ strike and then the SAG-AFTRA strike. The writers’ strike was resolved in September, while the actors’ strike is ongoing.

Wes Bentley’s journey on Yellowstone is coming to an end with the concluding half of season 5 later this year. But the actor is keen to extend his character’s narrative beyond season 5.
Bentley, who plays Jamie Dutton in the show, is open to continuing his character’s narrative in Taylor Sheridan’s forthcoming spinoff. The only stipulation is whether Sheridan can weave a narrative where Jamie seamlessly ‘fits in.’

Before we get into the extraordinary expenses being accrued in the Taylor Sheridan-verse, according to an article published in the Wall Street Journal, let’s take a moment to appreciate the timing: The piece dropped the morning after Paramount Global’s fairly disastrous Q1 earnings report, one that saw a $511 million loss in streaming, a stock price plunge of nearly 28 percent, and inspired a Wells Fargo analyst to strongly suggest that the corporation would be wise to pack it in on streaming altogether.
Hollywood is infamous for coddling its stars, but Sheridan is different: He’s single-handedly responsible for five shows that represent the backbone of Paramount+ (with at least five more in development) and he oversees a small industry that supports it, none of which puts Paramount in the best place to say “no.”
According to the WSJ, Paramount spends more than $500 million a year on the production of Sheridan’s series,...

The end of Yellowstone is in sight.
Paramount announced Friday morning that the beloved drama will end with its current fifth season, confirming recent reports that the show is coming to a close.
The news comes just days after it was revealed that Kevin Costner was exiting after five seasons.
The last-ever episodes of Yellowstone are set to air on Paramount Network in November, but it won't end the current timeline for the Dutton family.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a sequel series has nabbed a formal pickup and will premiere in December 2023.
The new series is expected to feature several beloved faces from the original, but we don't know who will be moving to the sequel.
It was widely reported that Matthew McConaughey would headline the new project, but it's unclear whether that's still a part of the plans.
It will debut on Paramount Network before becoming available on Paramount+ soon after.

“Yellowstone” is officially coming to an end, with the final episodes of the megahit Paramount Network series’ fifth season set to launch in November. In addition, an untitled sequel series has been ordered and will debut on Paramount Network and Paramount+ in December.
The announcement comes after months of speculation that Kevin Costner would be leaving the series, reportedly over his desire to focus on the epic two-part Western feature “Horizon,” which would have seriously impacted his availability to film “Yellowstone.”
“’Yellowstone’ has been the cornerstone on which we have launched an entire universe of global hits – from ‘1883’ to ‘Tulsa King,’ and I am confident our ‘Yellowstone’ sequel will be another big hit, thanks to the brilliant creative mind of Taylor Sheridan and our incredible casts who bring these shows to life,” said Chris McCarthy, president & CEO of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios.

Yellowstone is officially coming to a close, but the Dutton Dynasty will live on.
The news that Yellowstone’s final episodes will air starting in November, which follows a protracted scheduling battle with star Kevin Costner, also includes the formal reveal that Paramount will be moving forward with a sequel to the most watched show across broadcast and cable television.
The new installment, which has been given a straight-to-series order, will have Yellowstone in its name, and, to the great relief of its Paramount Global overlords, will stream on Paramount+ and not Peacock, like its predecessor. The latter was the result of a 2020 streaming rights deal that even CEO Bob Bakish has described as “unfortunate.” It being a new entity, the still-untitled sequel is able to operate outside the confines of the NBCUniversal arrangement — and if the franchise’s other spinoffs, including 1883 and 1923, which already stream on Paramount+, are any indication,...

Taylor Sheridan's "Yellowstone" continues to absolutely crush it in the ratings game, with Deadline reporting the season 5 simulcast premiere of the hit series brought in nearly 16 million viewers, making it the most-watched show on TV for all of 2022 and the most-watched cable premiere since "The Walking Dead" in 2017. While "Yellowstone" doesn't typically end up in the Emmy conversations, the show has proven that they don't need a statue to garner an audience. Series creator and showrunner Taylor Sheridan has already been greenlit for two other series on Paramount+ in the wake of the success of "Yellowstone," because apparently, people can't get enough of Kevin Costner on the Dutton Ranch.

"Yellowstone" season 5 just had its two-episode premiere exclusively on the Paramount Network -- not HBO, the studio where co-creator and writer Taylor Sheridan first pitched the epic neo-Western.
Maybe it wasn't quite the right fit for the network responsible for subscription-based prestige television like "The Sopranos" and "Succession." Or, maybe the original vision Sheridan had was just too expensive to greenlight when multiple seasons of "Game of Thrones" were already setting fire to millions of dollars. HBO didn't need another potential flagship show, but the big wigs at Viacom were searching for a bold new series to hang their hat on that could help launch their new cable channel.
With the help of another executive, former child star David Glasser, Sheridan was able to wrangle away the rights to "Yellowstone" and bring his version of the show over to a new home. If you don't include the NFL, "Yellowstone" is...

Given how many projects Taylor Sheridan seems to be juggling on a regular basis, it should come as no surprise that the dude is one prolific writer. But according to Taylor Sheridan’s producing partner David Glasser, he may have set a screenwriting record by penning the draft for the pilot of Sylvester Stallone’s upcoming Tulsa King series in just one day.
While speaking with THR, David Glasser said that he had mentioned to Taylor Sheridan that Sylvester Stallone had always wanted to play a gangster, and by the following afternoon… there was a script in Glasser’s inbox. “Taylor starts to spitball the idea of a fish out of water story for an hour,” Glasser said. “Then, Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m., he goes, ‘Check your inbox.’ There is a script he’s already written called Kansas City King and it’s incredible.” Sheridan and Glasser pitched the idea to Stallone on Monday,...

Taylor Sheridan wrote the first draft pilot script for Tulsa King in less than 24 hours.
That’s the tale, at least, told by his producing partner David Glasser. And it certainly sounds possible given Sheridan’s hyper-prolific reputation — the Yellowstone co-creator has seven shows in various stages of development at Paramount, and he pens a great number of episodes himself. He’s known to isolate for stretches at a time, relentlessly focusing on banging out stories.

Fifteen million viewers watched the Season 4 finale of Yellowstone — TV’s top-rated cable show in January — and were thrilled when wild woman Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) finally wed longtime love Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) on her family’s coveted Montana ranch. Because fans also appreciate cocreator Taylor Sheridan’s sense of Western justice, they were equally happy to see Beth blackmail her adoptive brother, lawyer Jamie (Wes Bentley), into shooting his biological dad, who’d ordered a hit on the Duttons. (Beth then snapped pics of Jamie burying the body!) Yellowstone’s producers keep plot info tighter than a cowboy’s jeans, but here, we speculate on what’s next for the land saga with help from executive producer David C. Glasser. Where do we pick up? “Episode 1 will immediately surprise everybody — where our story starts and what has happened,” teases Glasser. Could there be a small time-jump? Has patriarch...

Exclusive: Yellowstone co-creator and showrunner Taylor Sheridan will direct the pilot of 1883: Bass Reeves, the six-part limited series starring David Oyelowo as the legendary Wild West lawman.
Sheridan cleared room in his busy schedule after the pilot script came in and Sheridan was so impressed that he called Oyelowo, who sparked to having him get behind the camera. “The reality is that [Taylor] is one of the best directors on the planet,” Oyelowo told Deadline.
With Sheridan directing those two initial episodes, Oyelowo said, “We have to populate the show with a bunch of Black people to make sure that going forward the next Taylors are Black and brown and that there’s a bunch of them, so that it doesn’t become a scarcity of the top-flight Black directors.”
The news was greeted heartily by guests attending a dinner at London’s Chiltern Firehouse on Tuesday, hosted Chris McCarthy,...

Josh Brolin has spent his career pushing the narrative boundaries of the West.
Roles in resurgent Westerns such as “No Country for Old Men” and “True Grit” fortified the Oscar nominee’s place in the genre’s recent canon. His first major TV role was on ABC’s 1989 series “The Young Riders,” about the Pony Express.
The year prior to “Riders,” Brolin spent 24 hours believing he’d get his big break on CBS’ “Lonesome Dove” miniseries, having been cast as Newt, an orphan in the West, alongside his all-time favorite actor Robert Duvall. But the day after getting the role, the network pulled the offer, citing a contractual obligation to eventual star Rick Schroder.
“It was the greatest moment of my life,” Brolin recalls. “It is still the most elated I’ve ever felt about anything work-related and then it left as quickly as it came. I was absolutely freaking devastated.
