Steve Maclean is an independent sound designer and audio post-production specialist.
From the UK, born in 1975, growing up in Botswana Africa, Steve was able to connect with cultures, people, music and cinema from different parts of the world. This had an impact on his understanding of sound and music with world cinema and broadcast. With a supportive family, Steve was able to pursue a direction in sound early in his career. After returning to the UK permanently, Steve pursued electronic music production that was a huge movement in the UK during the 1990s. This led to many years of performing all around the UK and on radio shows in the US. This journey would eventually lead Steve into his true passion, sound in films.
After returning to education, to learn more and build competency, Steve was able to excel here and this was a platform that was used to create the career path. Steve was able to start as a freelance sound designer and did this with very good results, creating sounds for well-known brands to composing for animation studios. Taking it to another level, Steve is studying a Masters of Arts in Sound Design at Bath Spa University with a focus on post-production.
"I have a creative vision and lots of exciting ideas for every client, no matter how big or small. This is brought from my time being captivated in the cinemas and translating that experience in the studio. This appreciation for sound and how it is used with both image and narrative has allowed me to explore exciting avenues of audio production. Recognition and study of the masters in the field refine me as a sound designer, helping me stay true and adventurous to create an invisible connection, so important to cinematic storytelling."
